Fell for TopSEOs...advice?
-
I'm so embarrassed I could just spit, but instead I am seeking some friendly advice. I run ContentEqualsMoney.com, a copywriting company. We've been in business for just over a year and have done incredibly well. Of course, we do SEO copywriting but really focus on content marketing as a system for our clients.
So last month I got a random call from TopSEOs.com. I remember looking at their site last year but didn't put much thought into it. When they called, my ears perked at the pitch. They could submit our site for ranking and we would only pay if we were found in the top ten. I thought - what the heck, what are the chances my site would rank. I checked them out on opensiteexplorer and saw they had crazy SEO juice so happy times.
Then last week I saw the charge on our company credit card, sure enough we had made it to the top ten in SEO copywriting. I was flabbergasted but happy as a clam.
So yesterday I check out their site and we were ranked #1 for SEO Copywriting. For about two seconds I was jumping for joy...but after that I got sick to my stomach. In all the chaos with end of year stuff and the holidays I never considered the fact that they didn't take any references. They never evaluated anything. Here we were ranked #1 and they couldn't possibly know anything about us. Not to mention that there are plenty of more established SEO Copywriting companies. I'm starting to freak out...
I looked at my "competition" and buzzwrite.com (ranked #9) doesn't even exist anymore.
So I searched for "topseos scam" and found a wealth of info from 2009 and 2010. I feel like such an idiot. We thought we were paying for an evaluation process but I guess we just got hosed for a ludicrous ranking.
Now I don't know what to do. I want to hide under a rock. Do I need to worry about losing authority cred for being on this site? Should I tell them to keep the money but take my profile off their site asap? Or should I just keep my head down, see if any leads generate and then make sure to not pay them any additional monies?
I was going to ask this privately but if my stupidity can help anybody else avoid these people that would make me feel less like upchucking.
Thanks!

I'm glad I stumbled on this post.
I strongly believe that their should be a disclaimer on sites that rank other companies services who pay for the listings. In this case, unsuspecting business owners searching for a bona-fide SEO company can be easily misled by choosing a company with a top rank - when in fact the only way the rank was achieved was by paying for it.
Any credibility in my opinion of the site accepting payment for a listing as well as the site paying for the listing - is thrown out the window.

Just wanted to update anybody that randomly found this question
We got a slight bump in traffic from Top SEOs the first week, but then nothing. So for us it wouldn't have been worth the money even if it wasn't a bit slimy. All around a bad move

We have recently had dealings with Top SEO's and it can be a bit of a midfield. We do offer a genuinely good ethical service. We want to gain more client so when they got in touch we were like what the hell they are offering it for free for the first month so we did it. The second month they wanted a fee which we paid as it does work and we got a regular flow of inquiries.
But hey I am as annoyed as anyone with the whole system paying to get listed is so annoying ! But the rankings do work so you left with the though - Should I just play the game and go for it ??
What annoys me is I know people ranked for seo in the Uk in the top spots are perhaps not offering as good a service and they could... thats as far as I will go with that....
But companies want to hear the bumf ! They want chunky 30 page proposals.. Full of you guessed it unspecific bumf.
Rant over

Thanks! I appreciate the quick response More than anything I am just crazy embarrassed for not researching this ahead of time. If I would have known it was just a paid listing I would have ignored it. I wanted some quality backlinks but oh well... You are right though - plenty of potential clients aren't going to know about the controversy anyway. And I know that with us, they won't get terrible service. I'm going to go with keep our head down and let the leads come in. We're not going to broadcast our rankings outside of topseos (other than this post, lol) so it shouldn't get too hairy.
Thanks again

I think it could generate quite a few leads for you. Even though there is quite the controversy over their ranking factors (I've read money is the main one a few times), I've talked to quite a few companies who said that they receive quite a few leads from it.
Here's how I would look at it:
- People outside of the SEO business are going to go there to find talent (because there isn't really any other place that offers rankings).
- People in the business aren't going to hire you unless they know you. You are going to generate these leads by attending conferences, meetings and other social activities.
I would just let it ride, and see what comes. You probably couldn't get your money back anyways, so just enjoy the marketing

Website is flagged by Google as Compromised Site
Hi everyone, We have been running Google Ads for a while now and last week all of our Google Ads were paused with reason Compromised Site. We reached out to Google and they identify this page as one of the affected page: https://manpower.com.vn/vi/dich-vu-san-dau-nguoi-and-tu-van-nhan-su-cap-cao? The malicious links they found are:

• googie-anaiytics[.]com
• vty68[.]net We have asked our Website vendor to scan and they found nothing. We would be greatly appreciated if you could help. I tried Google Search Console and even the tool Google Safe Browsing that Google itself suggested but both the tools showed that our website does not have any malicious links at all. And yet Google Ads support team keeps telling us our page contains these links. I am wondering if anyone in the community has experienced this before and how did you address this issue. Or could you guys please help to share any tools that you know can do a deep scan on this page and if possible our entire website to help us identify where the links are located? Please let me know if you need any additional information from us and I would be happy to provide it.1 -
Unsolved Google Ads Subdomain in sitelinks & Composition Change for Strategy Status
I have a basic query but could not find a definite answer on the internet. I am currently running a campaign for the main website of a big education brand and they also have a secondary learning website on subdomain, and I want to add sitelinks of subdomain to the campaign, but I am not sure whether it is allowed or not. The brand I am running ads for is https://www.rauias.com/ and the secondary website is https://compass.rauias.com/ branded slightly different in a subdomain, so should I add the sitelinks of Compass to the main campaign? Also one more silly question My Max Conversion search campaign gave me this status today. "Learning (composition change): Campaigns have been added to or removed from the bid strategy. Google Ads is now adjusting to optimize bids. 5 days left for learning" What does this mean exactly? And Why does it reenter the learning phase whenever I make a small change?

Unsolved How should I update the grouping of keywords in a google ads account
hi, I have a google adwords account running for a while in a fairly competitive market in a major city so there is only one geo location with many suburbs or council areas as popular searched. I have keywords that are 2-4 words long and very similar. I have had one keyword in its own campaign, several in one campaign and a location campaign. The location campaign has several adgroups for specific suburbs. My question is that the most popular search terms are similar but in different campaigns and I am wondering if this is not the best way. for example I have these keywords in separate campaigns as exact match and phrase match

rubbish removal near me
rubbish removal Washington But the way google uses exact match seems to be changing and I am concerned these would be best in one adgroup. Also these keywords trigger similar phrases, for example, waste removal. Is it best to put them in one campaign with one ad group or one campaign with separate adgroups, or leave as is. As competition has increased I need to bid for top of page now and need to keep budget rises as little as possible..0 -
How would you respond to this doctor who demands to see his ads?
I work work for a health care system in the Midwest. We have a doctor in our transplant division who whenever we're in a meeting pulls out his phone and types in "kidney transplant" and ridicules me when our hospital is not on the page. I've long since given up trying to explain search intent to him (all the SERP results are showing information about kidney transplants, not information on where to get a transplant) along with trying to explain all the reasons why our ads don't necessarily show up on his phone despite us having a daily budget for that keyword. Without trying to explain how SEO or advertising online works, what would you do? I've toyed with eliminating advertising from the hospital zipcode so that I can just say we don't advertise in this zipcode at all, so of course our ads wouldn't pop up. I've also toyed with creating more informational content just so perhaps we can show up on the page, even though it's largely irrelevant (but I doubt we'd ever outrank the national brands that have written extensively on this). If someone types in "kidney hospital" or "transplant center" or anything relevant, we're instantly at the top of SERPs. But none of that matters to him. He only cares about showing up for "kidney transplant."

How much website would be worth for SEO?
I have a website that I'm considering selling. It gives no profit, but I think it has decent SEO value. Link explorer report: domain authority = 69, linking domains: 9.8k, inbound links: 44.2m, ranking keywords: 294. Is that any good? Website is about web design, so keywords are also related to it. Would it be useful for SEO links building for other people? I did sell similar website once, but it was about 7-8 years ago and I've sold it for very high 5 digit amount. However things have changed since then in SEO world, so I don't know if today similar website would be worth much. There is so much information out there that contradicts each other, so I think I'd rather ask professionals here.

Starting Out With PPC, Need Some Advice
We are starting out with PPC for our site. I wanted to know what the best starting point is for our site. First, some basic info: We sell thousands of products from a large number of manufacturers We can offer the same prices as competitors, but we can't beat their prices Here are my questions: What would be my USP if my prices are the same, and we have the same store policies as competitors? Is it best to start with product pages (as opposed to keywords)? Meaning, setting up a feed via MC and connecting to our adwords account. Any advice is appreciated 🙂
