Identified blog issues, anyone able to help?
-
hi everyone,
I have been going through a site recently and i am noticing certain seo errors that are being caused by the blog.
Nothing too harmful, but nonetheless i am hoping to correct them.
1 - The seomoz software have identified that i have duplicate title tags on the following
http://www.altman.co.uk/blog?page=1
http://www.altman.co.uk/blog?page=2
ETC, ETC, ETC...
Now am i right that i need to canonicalize those types of urls with the rel="next" and rel="previous"?
<colgroup><col width="583"></colgroup>

Pagination is a tough issue, and there's no one right answer (Google can't even agree with itself). If you're not experiencing ranking problems, then rel=prev/next is probably a good solution. It's a "soft" signal, IMO, and will help Google sort things out.
If you begin to have trouble, I tend to use META NOINDEX,FOLLOW on pages 2, 3, etc. In the vast majority of cases, these paginated results have no SEO value and no inbound links, so they add no value to the index. It really depends a lot on the scope of the problem.

I have to disagree on the risk assessment - true duplicates, on a massive scale, can cause something as severe as a penalty. It's not a Capital-P penalty in the traditional sense, but people who were hit by Panda due to massive duplication might as well have an algorithmic penalty. I'm dealing with client cases right now where duplicates caused much, much more than minor issues (80%+ traffic losses over months).

Hi Ryan, As your website increases in popularity and size it can become extremely challenging to keep track of all textual content, let alone identifying duplicate content. You may already know that having duplicate content can hinder the search rankings of a website, and there are good reasons for this. For example, the traffic for a particular keyword may be divided over multiple pages. But, what if someone else copies your content? Although webmasters around the world have expressed their concerns on the issue, Google and other search engines are yet to comment on the solution. We have put together our recommendations to avoid issues caused by duplicate content within your website.
Canonicalization’ means keeping one of the different versions of your URL as the main one and adding an HTML element to all non-canonical versions in order to tell the search engines which the correct version (canonical version) of the URL is.
Whenever the search engines discover the same (duplicate) content available from more than one URL, they will attempt to choose a best (or "canonical") version and filter out the duplicates. If a webmaster does not take steps to monitor and correct this issue, it can impair the rankings of the website. Often it's just a minor issue that resolves itself over time, but it can also be a significant and long-lasting drag on your rankings.
Duplicate titles and Descriptions do not cause penalties. They can cause problems in ranking when one of the pages gets ranked and the other one filtered out of that search result. Google may well not choose the page you prefer to rank for that particular query.
If your site has a true penalty, this is not a likely cause.
I hope that your query had been solved.

Yes you are correct.
You need to have a summary title on them that indicates that this is page 1 or 2 and so on.
It's a good idea to use rel="next" and rel="previous" .
See more info from google about this:

Does anyone know the linking of hashtags on Wix sites does it negatively or positively impact SEO. It is coming up as an error in site crawls 'Pages with 404 errors' Anyone got any experience please? For example at the bottom of this blog post https://www.poppyandperle.com/post/face-painting-a-global-language the hashtags are linked, but they don't go to a page, they go to search results of all other blogs using that hashtag. Seems a bit of a strange approach to me.

Company blog. What are the best solutions?
Hello Moz Community! Our company has its own blog (www.awarablogs.com) - the blog was created some time ago by means of a simple blog-engine. Now we see that the structure of the blog is bad for SEO (it has long URLs, many useless folders, subdomains and so on), so we'd like to simplify it. But the engine doesn't allow to change its structure in the way we 'd like to. Our webmaster suggested that we use "Alias". Will this method really help us make our blog SEO-friendly? Or is it better to choose another blog software like Wordpress? Thank you very much!

Is this advisable? Will this affect rankings?

Standard Responses Causing Duplication Issues
Hi Guys We have a Q&A section on our site which we reply to customers using standard responses which have already been approved. Is the Sandbox Real? Need Help!
To start, I'm very new at this so I've likely made a ton of mistakes but here is the breakdown of what's happened/what's been done to my site. I own a wedding photography company which was based in Portland, we decided about six months prior that we wanted to relocate to San Diego. It was too soon to optimize our website for our new town of San Diego so I created a brand new site. It was born around June 2011. It looks just like the old site but all the content is different (different titles, re-uploaded images, text, etc was optimized for San Diego). What may be my pitfall is I imported our blog posts from the old site to the new site and we continued to keep both blogs live (writing the post in one, importing to the other). San Diego site: http://continuumweddings.com Old Site (now optimized for LA): http://continuumphotography.com From there I began link building. I signed up for the SEO Scheduler and began making the changes suggested there. It told me to sign up for Linxboss, and I did it. Other than that, my links have been build naturally and I have quite a few of them, definitely enough to compete with my top competitors. At one point I was #3 for "San Diego Wedding Photographer" and I stayed there for a couple weeks. Then I began to drop. Now I'm somewhere on page 10. I've read a lot of articles on here and I know I have a lot of things potentially hurting me. Site age, Duplicate content, etc. I'm just not sure why I dropped (still rank on 1st page in Yahoo & Bing) and what I should do about it. I tend to get overwhelmed and every post I read seems to talk about something new I may have done wrong. I'm willing to put in the time to fix this; I just need to know where my time is best spent.

What is with WordPress Dupe issues?
Hi, Just wondering if anyone can explain for me why it seems every tag that is entered in WP blog posts on a site creates a duplicate page (identified by ROGER and friends in SEOmoz crawl)? Obviously if you can offer a solution (apart from the extremely obvious "don't use tags") I would be immensely grateful. Thanks so much,
