Facebook Likes and Shares difference?
-
How does the facebook like value differ from the Facebook share value?
How does the Like number increase?
-
Hi PhotoGazza,
We pull Facebook Shares and Facebook Likes from Facebook's FQL. They define Shares as, "The number of times users have shared the page on Facebook." and Likes as, "The number of times Facebook users have 'Liked' the page, or liked any comments or re-shares of this page." In this context, a page is defined as a URL on the web (ie not a Facebook page).
So, I believe that a share is a count of the total number of times that Facebook knows a URL has been shared on Facebook in general (whether through a status update, comment, etc, public and private) but to be perfectly honest, Facebook doesn't make it 100% clear. You can check out their documentation here: http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/fql/link_stat/
Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks!

I understand Facebook's terminology of a share has gone. However, if you like something on Facebook, a website etc, the counter here for example will go up:
http://graph.facebook.com/?id=http://www.seomoz.com
Yet that shows Shares, not likes.
In SEOMoz the Facebook Shares Tooltip says:
"Total number of times the URL was posted on a Facebook page"
This corresponds to the likes my sites have had (always).
Yet, in the Facebook likes I can't understand where it gets the values from. The tooltip on Seomoz says: "Total number of times this URL and Facebook comments on this URL were Liked. Does not include Likes of Facebook Page or Likes via embedded buttons on the URL."
It doesn't make sense. It's like as if some of it is labelled the wrong way around on SeoMoz.

Facebook share is gone...this is from the facebook site....
The Share button has been deprecated in favor of the Like button and Feed Dialog, and will no longer be supported. Please use the Like button or Feed Dialog whenever possible to drive maximum traffic to your apps.
You get facebook likes from havign someone facebook "like" thumbs up your site or account.

Facebook URLs, Anchor Text
I have a client that is considering a facebook url change. For ease of explanation, let's say their currently existing URL is facebook.com/Company123. I've googled their currently existing facebook url and found a dozen or so websites that include the text, "facebook.com/Company123". But, these results don't include websites that have an anchor text of, for example, "Facebook" and a link pointing to facebook.com/Company123. Has anybody had success tracking down any/all websites that point to a specific Facebook url? I've tried Open Site Explorer, OpenLinkprofiler, RankSignals, and SEO SpyGlass to no avail. Thank you!

Open Site Explorer: Facebook Shares, Likes, etc.
I don't fully understand what this means in the report for our site: http://screencast.com/t/aG5jbkYWLA here is our site: www.discountqueens.com & we have thousands of fans & facebook likes and all the time on all our posts. For example yesterday we had 73 likes on this post alone: http://www.discountqueens.com/amazon-ultimate-shrinky-dinks-jewelry-designer-1495/ So here's my questions: Is there an error in the reporting? Are we using a social sharing method that isn't giving us valid credit for these links? What should I consider doing differently & why isn't our likes, shares, tweets & Google+ being calculated into our score?

Open Site Explorer & SEOMoz Bar for Chrome Showing Different Numbers
When I run a report on OSE checking for linking root domains, the number is always different from the number of root domain links that the SEOMoz bar shows in Chrome. For example on OSE a site shows 88 root domain links, but in the SEOMoz bar, it shows 110 root domain links. I've tested this issue with several sites and there is always a discrepancy in the number of root domain links. Does anyone know which one is actually correct and why this might be happening? Thanks.

Drastic Difference between Ranking in Seomoz Keyword Ranking and non-personalized Google US Search
Hi everybody, for some of our keywords we saw a huge drop in ranking in the Seomoz Dashboard, yet when performing a non-personalized Google US search we still hold our old positions. Now, I am worried whether this is an upcoming Google penalty or just some bug in the latest crawl. Did anybody ever experience something similar and how could we find out if we were indeed penalized by Google (as we did some major linkbuilding campaign for these keywords recently)? Cheers and a major thanks for your suggestions, Tobias
