Does Google still have a standard search result? How can I get it?
-
I have heard a lot from the experts that there are no "Standard" Google search results anymore. They said that most of the SERP's of Google that show up are customized/tailored for each individuals even if they are not logged-in using their Google Custom Search. My questions are, Is there still a way to retrieve the standard Google search result? How?
Are these scripts will be helpful when searching on Google?
*webhp?
*complete=0
*pws=0 -
Hi Ryan,
Appending that to my query string didn't work, but using the Search Tools dropdown and setting my location to US did the trick. Thanks for questioning me, was great to be able to see this.
-
Keri, I am not entirely clear. If you set your gl=us, you also see the SERPs without any local results. I have the feeling I am missing something.
-
I remember seeing your tweet about that and thought of it while answering this question...
-
The one time I've been able to get a non-geo result is when I had in-flight wifi on a Southwest flight. It was odd (and refreshing) to see terms like "pizza" come back with just ten blue links. A little impractical for daily use though.

Just to add a bit to Kane's response, the closest you can get to what you refer to as "standard Google results" is as follows:
1. Use either Chrome's Incognito Windows (CTRL + SHIFT + N) or FireFox's Private browsing. By using this method you can be sure no cache is used.
2. Be sure not to log in to Google. If you use the suggestion from step 1 above, you will be fine.
3. Use the SEOmoz SERP Control Panel which is part of the SEOmoz toolbar. Press Google US non-personalized (or make a setting for any country). This option does two things. First, it sets your geo-location to the US instead of your local area. Second, it appends your query with pws=0 to eliminate personalization.
By using the above steps, you will come as close as possible to receiving the Google results without adjustment.
The above does not account for one factor and that is regionalization. Even with all of the above steps taken, Google will still show different results based on your physical location. You need to use a proxy server to perform your search query from various locations in order to determine your query's sensitivity to location changes. The tool I recommend for this task is GeoEdge. It is free for search results.

It depends on the search query as to how much the SERP will be customized, but for the most part, no, it doesn't exist.
Google adjusts results based upon a number of variables. A couple prominent ones include:
- Location of the user (mostly via IP address or Google account settings)
- Past queries (either in search history of the Google account, or at that IP or computer, or through the use of parameters like pq=previous+query or a number of other parameters)
- Random/Miscellaneous Google Testing - they'll often test different search results on different users - you have no control over this.
The closest you'll probably get is to use pws=0, set your user location to "United States" or the location where most of your customer base is located, and do this on a Google Chrome Incognito browser.
Regarding the other two parameters you mentioned, webhp= and complete= are both related to auto-suggest and won't have the effect you want.

Google Custom Search vendors and options
Hi everyone, We're in the process of finding someone who will be able to help set up Google Custom Search on our site and are having some trouble - most agencies we were hoping could help solely focus on Google Search Appliance, a hardware-specific approach that doesn't suit our needs. Specifically, we'd like to replace our current site search engine with Google Custom search, as well as configure it as deeply as possible for the best search experience I'm hoping people could give me some ideas on who might be able to help, or the best places to look. Thanks in advance!

Google Penguin 2.0 - How To Recover?
Hi all,
Industry News | | chanel27
Last year, we have engaged a SEO company who promised to bring us to the first page on Google. But after 4 months, we actually found out that he might be using doing non quality mass link building tactic and this caused our ranking for all 3 sites we given to him to drop in ranking overnight on 22nd May 2012 after the Google Penguin 2.0 rolled out. Is there anything we can do to recover?1 -
What is triggering Google account suspensions?
Over the past 24 hours many of our clients have had their Google accounts suspended. The explanation has been: "After reviewing your profile, we determined that it has been used to impersonate another individual or mislead other users. This violates the Google+ User Content and Conduct Policy." We are NOT impersonating our clients, we have their permission. We are not misleading anyone, simply setting up profiles for our clients on Google+. This has not affected all of our clients, but a significant number of them. We cannot find a common variable between the clients that have been suspended, and those who have not. Some have had other Google+ profiles in the past, in another account, some have not. Some have been previously verified via SMS, others by phone. Some have posts in their profile, others have only the profile info filled out. Again, we are not trying to game Google, we are simply setting up authorship for them, with their permission. I have not seen much in the SEO community about this today, and this is NOT related to fake reviews. We do not partake in that kind of activity. We have written a post on the topic, and no matter how this shakes out, I think our take is solid. Authorship is changing the game, content is changing the game, trust is changing the game… and Google is getting serious about it. We have also seen this happen to our clients, to our competitors' clients, and to other marketing firms' clients, outside of our vertical. Does anyone know more about the topic, especially in regards to the suspensions over the past 24 hours?

What does the New Frontier of Search Look Like? (Mobile and Tablet)
I'd like to start a discussion thread on the direction of search as it applies to mobile and tablet. Jeff Haden, one of our Inc.com contributors, wrote an article headline stating that SIRI would be the end of SEO. However, what the article really talks about is the direction mobile search is likely to take: 1. Search results will be bypassed 2. Even more emphasis on local 3. PPC will be irrelevant 4. Emphasis on social media I think these insights are fairly intuitive and it will be really interesting to see how the medium for mobile and tablet develops. It will be interesting to see what technologies will shape the means by which users find information and not just the search intent of the user. Please add any insights you may have or good reads you'd like to share here.

Help settle an argument pls - are local results 'organic'?
Hi y'all. Hoping you can help give some definition here to organic results as I've inadvertantly started an argument in a forum when I was suggesting to some soul in need of advice that he needed to concentrate on the two types of SEO, those being Organic AND Local search results. So the argument started that Local search IS Organic, and results are classed as either Organic or Paid. Though to me, the term 'organic results' represents the search results derived from googles main website indexing algorithm, Not Paid, and not any of the Verticals (Local/News/Images/Video etc.) So would love to hear what others views are... if I'm totally wrong I'll go back and graciously accept my education 🙂

Is it Google's new interface for search result?
Hi, While searching on Google, i came across a new search result page without underlines in the titles of search snippets. Is Google experimenting with something new or there is some problem in my browser. I checked it in Firefox but at the same time when i checked it on IE, normal page was visible. Regards photostream

How does recent Google update affect e-commerce sites:
Most ecommerce sites use the original manufacturer product descriptions in their content. The product features and specifications are the content made by the manufacturer. Sometimes manufacturers insist that the ecommerce sites should use their original content and it is impossible to change what available in the original content and rewrite it.
