Local SEO and Sites by Order of Opinion?
-
Okay, so we were just having a discussion about which sites/directories are the most important to be listed in for Local SEO.
Ultimately we were looking to 'sort' these by order of importance for the typical local business.
- Google My Business
- Yelp
- Yahoo! Local
- Bing Local
- Foursquare
- YellowPages.com
- SuperPages.com
- CitySearch
- HotFrog
How would you order them? Would you add anything to the list?
Thanks!
-
Thanks William and everyone else too!
-
Agreed!
-
As William said, it's definitely niche dependent. You have to be mindful of other citation sources. However, your generic citation list is pretty close to what you need at the beginning of a campaign.

Yelp and Google My Business are musts for just about any industry, but after that, the priority changes depending on the industry. Industry-specific directories can play a significant part.
Here is a great guide where priority is broken down by industry: http://moz.com/learn/local/citations-by-category

URL Best Practices (for site with millions of records)
We have a company information database where we also list companies located in a specific building/property. We plan to add more information to these pages basically to create a Property/building database. From an SEO standpoint, what is the best URL structure? Please note we will have information on millions of properties, across the US. Currently this is an example of what we are displaying http://www.buzzfile.com/Lists/Companies-located-at-45-Broadway,-New-York,-NY,-10006/6959468 When we change this, we plan to also migrate to https. For the above page, we are considering changing it to something like the following: 1 - https://www.buzzfile.com/Property/45-Broadway,-New-York,-NY,-10006/6959468 2 https://www.buzzfile.com/Property/6959468 Most users will search for these pages by address. What do you recommend we change our URLs to in order to get maximum SEO lift? Thank you,

Our website ranks first in SERP but is not listed in google local list
Hi, Our website is currently (and has been) ranking 1st for a number of keywords but is not listed under the Google Local list. I have double check that all the (physical) info is correct. I do not have a duplicate page. When I order the Google Local results in rating order, we then appear on top! Has anyone come across such a situation and would you have tips on how to solve this issue? Thanks!

GMB listing not showing for local searches
Hi all, I've optimised an existing GMB listing that has been in place for over a year. The client is a yacht/boat broker and marine repair outfit based in Mallorca. When I search for terms that they 'should' be ranking for on Google and on a Maps search, they are nowhere to be found, yet their listing does show when you type in their company name. I've read lots of Local SEO guides and followed their advice but I'm not sure what I'm meant to do next?

Which Rank Trackers Include Local 3-pack Rankings?
Granted the Local 3-pack is heavily influenced by the distance between the user and the business, when you actually include the city name in the search, the local 3 pack result doesn't center the map at the city in the search and not the user's location so it is much more consistent despite the searcher's location. So my personal opinion is that it is worth tracking local 3-pack when you use a keyword such as "Home Inspection Seattle Wa" With that said, which rank tracking services includes the local 3-pack in their tracking results, other than of course Bright Local?

Struggling with SEO and Rebranding...
I have a question for you... have a client who originally I built and ranked individual websites for them for multiple services. One website was for auto sales, one for auto repair and one for auto detailing. But the names were all different and individual. They decided to rebrand and they wanted to bring them all under one common name. And they were talked into building a new website under the one common brand name and put all the content under that website and have since 302 redirected everything. I know.... should have been 301's So of course now I have to go back in there and repair the SEO damage as everything has now tanked. So here is my dilemma I have the following brands/services - all located same city, some in different physical locations new website is XYZ.com XYZ Car Sales - located at 123 any street XYZ Auto Repair - located at 123 any street XYZ Auto Detailing - located at 456 any street XYZ Customizing - available at 456 any street Should I just build out the content on the XYZ.com domain and use subfolders so XYZ.com/customizing, XYZ.com/autosales, XYZ.com/autodetailing etc or should I use subdomains autodetailing.XYZ.com, etc And as a final question to this scenario... how does this affect the Google+ business pages for each of these businesses? If i use the subfolder method, should I have the XYZ Car Sales, XYZ Auto Detailing all point to the XYZ.com root or should each Google business page point to the actual subfolder? And how will this affect SEO? If I build out the Auto Detailing section for example I was thinking it would look like this XYZ.com/auto-detailing
Local Listings | | seo.help
XYZ.com/auto-detailing/about-us
XYZ.com/auto-detailing/services
XYZ.com/auto-detailing/contact-us Will that be good enough for Google to properly link the content to that particular section/brand assuming things like Title Tags/ H1 tags, etc are done properly? Keeping in mind we have Google business pages already in existence for XYZ Auto Sales
XYZ Auto Detailing
XYZ Customizing
XYZ Auto Repairs Your help will be hugely appreciated, Ive searched and searched, but most things seem to lead back to multi location SEO questions, this is multi-location but also multi brand and different business names (although quite similar)0 -
Question about onsite NAP as it relates to Local Search
Hi Gang, State requirements mandate that our law practice (Keller & Keller) properly display their distinct business entities on all advertising materials, including our website. Specifically, our offices are set up in a way that makes Indiana's law office an LLP, New Mexico's an LLC, and Michigan's a PLLC. All 3 offices/states are represented on a single domain, but I want to be careful about mixing the different registration titles (LLP, LLC, PLLC) throughout our site when we commonly refer to ourselves simply as Keller & Keller throughout the main pages and in our content. I worry it may negatively affect our local listings? (One idea is to place a simple 'disclaimer' in the footer throughout our site that identifies the business entities, however, I'm still concerned this too might affect/confuse our local listings?) All thoughts, advice, and theories are welcome! Thanks, everyone! (And to my fellow Yanks, enjoy a safe Memorial Day weekend!) W-
