Questions about reorganizing a website's content structure
-
I'm working with a publisher who is considering reorganizing the content on their site, which up to now has been presented more or less as a portal site for a variety of segments in a particular business industry. One scenario that is on the table is to remove some content sections altogether and republish them under their own unique domains.
It's important to note that this reorganization would be part of a new brand strategy.
So my first question is whether this is one of those avoid-at-all-costs scenarios? My second question is if we decide to procede, what kind of time could it take for these new domains to generate the same level of search traffic they are currently pulling in on the portal site?
Thanks!

Splitting content off to separate domains is not a 100% no-no. I would only do it if the content is targeted to significantly different market or user segments, though.

Does google penalize you if you post content in french and english on a website
I'm trying to encourage content editors to only post content in either English or French. For example we have a French press release but the team are wanting it on our site in French and English. I thought this would fall under duplicate content rules. Does google penalize you if you post content in French and English on a website?

What Content to Write - Hot Topic or More Niche Related?
Hi, Just for example, say you've got a shoe store but shoes are a non-searched-for topic on the informational side. Say fashion models or teenybopper shoppers are both hot topics. Would you recommend writing an article - one of the site's five >2000 word articles on a hot area of the hot topics? Or would you just stick to shoes topics? If you do write on the hotter topics, how does the shoe store owner write on these - they're out of his area of expertise? Does he need a content writer?

Best Websites to help discover Topics
Hi I know I can use Twitter and latest posts on Google & Blogs, but I was wondering what are the best tools at the moment to use if you are looking to write about up to the minute information about a certain topic. Say the topic is London, is there a website or tag cloud to understand what people are saying about London right now? Anything better than Social Mention?

Changing URL structure in WP
Hi there. Currently we have our blog (WP site) URLs setup this way: companyname.com/post-name However, it's hard to analyze blog's (only) content in Google Analytics now (since all posts have their own unique URL). I want to change the structure to companyname.com**/blog**/post-name Question: Is there a way to do it safely? Will I have to 301 all the old links to the new structure or is there any other way to do the switch without losing any links? Thoughts or any (other) suggestions? 🙂 Thanks much! 🙂 `Helen

Now I have heard that you get more seo value if its a lower tear so for example: site.com/product rather than site.com/brand/subbrand/product Is this correct? Should I structure my site like this? site.com/product
site.com/brand points to site.com/product (so all products are on the sub root.) Does that make sense?0
