What is the best white hat seo link building strategy?
-
My goal is to build links that comply with Google's Quality Guidelines. I am wondering what is the best way to approach webmasters or bloggers about submitting guest posts or writing content. I have done a competitive analysis, and have a list of potential link sources, but I am not sure what approach to take next. Any advice or strategy would be appreciated.

Hey,
This is a hell of a question and in honesty, there is no 'best' strategy and the best strategy is the one (or many) that works for you and your business.
There are two main link building strategies from a pure performance in the search results perspective:
1. Manual Link Building
You actively seek links from sites that will allow you to link back to yourself. In this category we can have everything from article marketing and press releases through to guest blogging. Even the lowly directory can feature in this approach.
Some ideas that fall under this category
- topically relevant & local directories (that are high quality) - article marketing (squidoo) - press releases - infographic submission directories
Really, we are looking at places with little to no editorial control and that have a fairly low impact when it comes to moving the dial. You will also hit a wall with these approaches and whilst there is really no limit on how many articles you could submit to squidoo there is a limit on how much value they pass. (obviously, if your squidoo stuff is super awesome and gets tons of links it's better but really, if it was that good it should be on your own site).
This approach also does not scale awfully well so by all means, pick the low hanging fruit but don't expect it to be particularly sweet!
2. Content Based Link Building
Next up we have all the ways we can use content to build links and this includes various strategies (some of which we covered above but)
- guest posting (the fashionable one) - getting interviewed if possible - blogging - big content - infographics and directories - ebooks
Now, with content based stuff, we are seeking to identify useful and in demand content and hoping that it generates links. Well, it would be great if you could do that and it 'just worked' but the reality is that it takes time and effort to get to the point where your blog is in such demand that people are tripping over themselves to share and link to it (but you can get there).
There is no reason why you can't look at the easy options or even guest blogging but it is not a process you can scale very well and it can be a slow, painful process to build links in any volume whilst maintaining quality. To put this into perspective the textlinkbrokers people offer a high quality guest posting service - I have not tried this but it is like $800 a pop. Now, I don't know how many $800 links you want to buy but clearly, whilst there are other options, this is going to get pretty expensive pretty quickly.
My suggestion would be some kind of long term structured approach starting with a six month program. An approach that focused on identifying at least two to three pieces of big content that you can use to attract links and then using social media to help promote that content.
A process like this has been pretty well covered here:
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/the-noob-guide-to-link-building
It includes social outreach to build a network, identification of link targets, identification of influencers within your niche that you can use to help seed out your amazing content and techniques and strategies to help build relationships with the people you are asking to share your content and link to you.
This is not a paint-by-number approach, you are going to have to use some smarts to help identify valuable content but all the tools are out there.
Ultimately, I expect people to dive in with the usual content, content, content approach and that is right to a point. But what you really need is great content and a well established network of people that you are going to get to share your content and link to it. (think blogger buddies).
Point I am trying to make here is that any one 'strategy' is not going to win the war. You want diversity, you want scaleability and true content driven strategies like infographics + guest post on an established site, ebooks + guestpost on an established sites, ego bait, social outreach etc will help you take great content and give it the audience it deserves.
If you follow this kind of approach for six months or longer (try to think 2 year strategy if possible) and build up a great social network winning links can become easy. A client we work with who has gone through a similar process can pop a blog post out, promote it via the social channels, see a large number of retweets, likes etc and expect several links. A recent piece of content that hooked into halloween generated over 30 links from a single, fairly pedestrian piece of content.
Summing up
Really, you can't replicate this kind of scale or success by manually building links and you can't get to this point over night but if you hunker down and play the long term game, build a big social network, develop content people are actively seeking, blog and network with blogger buddies then long term you can get into a position where the external portion of the SEO should take care of itself!
Hope that helps!

I think you can write an introductory letter, showing your interest of why you want to be guest poster on their blogs. Also, introducing your business background and explain how you can also bring benefit to them.
In the end, you need to show that there will be a mutual relationship between you and them.
Make it as appealing (and honest) as possible

Better link building is hardest to achieve in 2014
In a simple words. My site has good quality content not copies 100% original. Have good social points more then 500 or twitter, fb, g+ (200) and now what to do with ranking. should i start linking, but where, please don't refer me any-page. As my thinking all old link building method are now died, like comment, rss, classifieds, footer links, directories. etc At this time i am thinking the powerful link building is hard to achieve in whole process of seo. Now any one tell me where do i start, linking to my site .....? (I also research on competitors but there links are all from contextual and linking domain sites DA is more then 70, and i can't even able to get one link by scraping more then 200 sites.) Thanks .

Affiliate Links & SEO
Hi Looking at my backlink profile I noticed that I had 150 links coming from one site. Ahhhh I thought in light if the recent Penguin updates. Upon closer inspection I noticed that my link is only on the homepage of that site but because that site sells its product via clickbank they have got loads of versions of that site because of its affiliates. For example: MAINSITE is www.mainsite.com then there are 150 affiliates using hoplinks via clickbank so its: www.mainsite.com?hopmrbig www.mainsite.com?blablahblah etc etc The question: Will this hurt me? In theory I got 1 link on their homepage but will Google see it as 150 versions of the same site? Your thoughts please? SMP

How much should a link building program cost?
Hi All, I am relatively new to the world of SEO but it is vital to our business that we improve in this area. I believe our site architecture is good although we have a new site coming in the next few weeks which is effectively a re-skinning of the existing one that makes the user experience more relevant. What I would like to know is how much a link building program shoudl cost from an SEO provider and how they quantify what they charge - is there some kind of indicative cost per link or is it just "give us some money and we will do our best?" We have started writing daily articles on our news site and our natural listings are already pretty good. What I am looking to achieve is top three status for the London area (where we work) accross a broad range of keywords. I know this is what everyone wants but we are already front page and top 3 for many keywords and the back link building would appear to be where we are weaker compared to some of our competitors. Thanks James www.morganpryce.co.uk

Link Building by Guest Posting.... But How many posts?
Hello I am a small Computer/Tech Blogger (part time) from India and following are my Domain stats: PR: 4 Alexa Rank: 65K *** Open Site Explorer Page Authority: 46/100** *** Open Site Explorer Domain Authority: 35/100** *** Open Site Explorer Linking Root Domain: 98** *** Open Site Explorer Total Links: 1196** *** mR: 4.83** *** mT: 5.81** Domain Age: 3 Years and 4 Months Blog Posts I made: around 580 I never spent ANY time in Link Building, only wrote content for my blog. I only attached my Blog URL in some BIG forums as a signature (never meant for link building, but later found that the signature section of some forums are DOFOLLOW) and very few sites linked/links to me/my articles. Reasons why I am asking question here: Majority of my blog posts ranks very well (top 10) on Google.co.in, but on Google.com, most of them are present from Page 2 - Page 10 - I want to rank my posts well on Google.com, Google.co.uk etc. SERP of Big sites remains static, but my position shuffles a lot. Sometimes any particular blog post of mine is on first page (on a particular Google Domain) and after some days/months, it shifts to 2nd or 3rd page! This happens a lot! As soon as Google Updates pagerank, many recent articles of mine will get atleast PageRank 2 or 3, but when pagerank in updated again, the pagerank of these very same articles drops! Very few articles of mine have static pagerank I am not a master in Computers/Tech and am not the first one on the internet to discover and write something UNIQUE/NEW, but I try to write detailed and good quality tutorials. If main keywords of my posts matches with the keywords of BIG domains, I never rank on first page, no matter I have written more detailed content compared to the content of these BIG sites! Google sends me traffic to majority of my blog posts by means of random keywords! I have decided to do Guest Posting on some blogs of similar niche and with Open Site Explorer Domain Authority ranging from 60 to 80. I will try my level best to write good content for them and they also allows Author Bio with a backlink to my Blog Homepage (in my case, the anchor text for this link will be my Blog Name) I want to ask following questions: Is one guest post with a backlink to my Homepage is enough? or I have to write more content for same domain? I have heard that, if you link to a website/blog which is linking to you, Google don't pass any juice to either of them because of reciprocal linking! - Is this true? The websites on which I am planning to do guest posts are very well established and trusted websites. Some of them have Open Site Explorer Domain Authority of 80+. Also, I never linked to them nor I am planning to do so! I request SEO Gurus here to please help me and I apologize in advance if I am wrong at any point. MY SEO concepts are not much clear and I am a newbie 🙂 Thanks and Regards

Selling link building - Show me the money !
Week after week we get enquiries for Link building services. Time and time again we are losing out on contracts and deals... My stance - We work on your site for a period of time doing link building so 2 days in the month a link building member will research competitors , yadi , yadi, ya 🙂 You get the picture right... But the customers are being told by less scrupulous companies the numbers of links they will receive. Impossible unless you are buying them right ? So it reaches that point when you start questioning being 100% honest... What advice would you give me on selling link building services...

Social Bookmarking as part of an SEO strategy?
Hi all, I was wondering on my commute to work this morning the effectiveness of Social Bookmarking as part of a SEO campaign. The sites I work on generally have the social bookmarking widgets and they do get used by website visitors. In addition to this we also bookmark our sites, new articles and other new content within the top 5 social bookmarking sites. This is all done as part of a wider social strategy. But could I be spending my time better else where? Whats everyones thoughts on Social Bookmarking and do you incorporate it in your SEO campaigns? Cheers Aran UPDATE: I note that SEOmoz Q&A only have Tweet, Like and Stumble...
