GWT Images Indexing
-
Hi guys!
How does normally take to get Google to index the images within the sitemap?
I recently submitted a new, up to date sitemap and most of the pages have been indexed already, but no images have.
Any reason for that?
Cheers

None of those changes have been done, and unfortunately I can't find out why the previous guy has put the disallow on those files.
I will give a couple of weeks time and see if anything changes, if not I will remove it from the robots!
Thanks for your help!

If the path to the images has not changed in your code and the robots.txt file has not changed either then I don't have an explanation.
Is it possible that you have changed the way the search engine friendly URLs are created and therefore that has changed the query path to the images?
Ultimately though, if there is no reason to have that disallow in your robots.txt then I would remove it and re-submit a sitemap.

Hello Peter,
I was just looking into it and I do think that's the problem, the question is though, how come the images in the previous sitemap were indexed despite the robots?

Hi
Just checking your robots.txt file you have this line:
Disallow: /ProductImage.aspx
As your images are served from a query running from: http://www.repsole.com/ProductImage.aspx, e.g. http://www.repsole.com/ProductImage.aspx?File=pi-server-cabinet-42u-mesh-door-cab42810-svr.jpg&Size=200 then I think that is the source of your problem.

http://www.repsole.com/artwork/ProdZoom/pi-server-cabinet-42u-mesh-door-cab42810-svr.jpg
that is the link to the image
http://www.repsole.com/Product/pi-server-cabinet-42u-800mm-1000mm-mesh-door/2491
that's the page

Can you send a link to one of your images and the page you placed it on. I'll check out it's metadata and tags to see how Google sees it. Images in a regular sitemap can take time. I don't have an exact answer for you. If the pages that the images are on are indexed, in general, the images should be indexed too. I prefer to use the image sitemap strategy though. I then like to add links on Pinterest or other sharing sites to the images to let Google discover them. Sorry I can't be more exact for you, there are so many factors.
Is your site utilizing Google+, I've seen some correlation between activity on Google+ and higher percentages of items indexed via WMT. Not saying its causation but there is a correlation for most of my clients They will have a >90% index rate for each of their sitemaps (index, images, categories, videos, etc).

Hi, it can take Google extra time to index images, but I would also suggest you check the following:
- That you haven't got a line in your robots.txt file that is disallowing indexing of your images folder. I have seen that happen before.
- That your images are well named, i.e. not just something like "img_1234.jpg".
- That your images have alt text linked with them on the pages they are used on.
I hope that helps,
Peter -
Images are in the regular sitemap and yes, the links point to the direct source not to the page they are on.

Did you submit a separate sitemap just for images (aka Image Sitemap)?
If the images are in your regular sitemap and you don't have a separate image sitemap, make sure that the links in the sitemap are links to the actual image source and not the page that the image is on.

Google Indexing of Site Map
We recently launched a new site - on June 4th we submitted our site map to google and almost instantly had all 25,000 URL's crawled (yay!). On June 18th, we made some updates to the title & description tags for the majority of pages on our site and added new content to our home page so we submitted a new sitemap. So far the results have been underwhelming and google has indexed a very low number of the updated pages. As a result, only a handful of the new titles and descriptions are showing up on the SERP pages. Any ideas as to why this might be? What are the tricks to having google re-index all of the URLs in a sitemap?

I Lost Index Status of My Sitemap
We have a simple WordPress website for our law firm, with an English version and a Spanish version. I have created a sitemap (with appropriate language markup in the XML file) and submitted it to Webmaster Tools. Google crawled the site and accepted the sitemap last week, 24/24 pages indexed, 12 English and 12 Spanish. This week, Google decided to remove one of the pages from the index, showing 23/24 pages indexed. So, my questions are as follows: How can I find out which page was dropped from the index? If the pages are the same content, but different language, why did only one version of the page get dropped, while the other version remains? Why did the Big G drop one of my pages from the index? How can I reindex the dropped page? I know this is a fairly basic issue, and I'm embarrassed for asking, but I sure do appreciate the help.

How to get Google to index another page
Hi, I will try to make my question clear, although it is a bit complex. For my site the most important keyword is "Insurance" or at least the danish variation of this. My problem is that Google are'nt indexing my frontpage on this, but are indexing a subpage - www.mydomain.dk/insurance instead of www.mydomain.dk. My link bulding will be to subpages and to my main domain, but i wont be able to get that many links to www.mydomain.dk/insurance. So im interested in making my frontpage the page that is my main page for the keyword insurance, but without just blowing the traffic im getting from the subpage at the moment. Is there any solutions to do this? Thanks in advance.

Any value in external links to image files?
Let's say you have www.example.com. On this website, you have www.example.com/example-image.jpg. When someone links externally to this image - like below... { is < {a href="www.example.com/example-image.jpg"} {img src="www.example.com/example-image.jpg"} {/a} The external site would be using the image hosted on your site, but the image is also linked back to the same image file on your site. Does this have any value even though the link is back to the image file and not the website? Also - how much value do you guys feel image links have in relation to tech links? In terms of passing link juice and adding to a natural link profile. Thanks!
