Links from low PA pages on high DA sites... What effect do they have?
-
My company's website has inbound links from very high DA websites (LinkedIn 96, Yelp 91, etc.) but from pages with very low PA (1). These low PA pages are the company listings pages.
In the case of Linked In, there are several products/services listed with ideal anchor text to the relevant pages on our site.
How do these links effect our overall ranking and trust, and why aren't they listed when I use OSE to analyze my pages?
Thanks!

Thanks, I'll start a new thread.

Christopher, you might want to ask this as its own question, as this is an old thread and new responses won't bounce a thread to the top. I only know of this question since I happened to be subscribed to the thread.
I'm not an expert in PA and DA, but my guess would be that a new release from 2009 doesn't get a whole lot of links and traffic in many cases.
A common response to the question of "should I build links to one of my inlinks to increase the authority of my inlinks" is that you should spend that time getting links to your own page, not doing someone else's linkbuilding work for them.
-
Why do all the news releases on PRweb.com have a PA=1? It makes sense that the news releases start at PA=1, but news releases from 2009 are still at PA=1. Is it because the vast majority of news releases have one internal back link? What is the affect of a follow link from a page with PA=1 and DA=96? Also, is it possible to increase the PA of your own press release on PRweb.com by adding your own external back links to the press release, thus having a decent PA and a very high DA?
Best,
Christopher -
Your linked in link is no follow. If it was do follow, I would try to get links to that page to raise the PA, but other factors matter. I have seen many pages with lower combo PA and DA rank higher, not sure exactly why though.

I hope the link-building campaign is going well! Q&A is more active than ever; feel free to come and start a new thread with any questions you have, you'll have lots of people to lend you a hand as you continue working on your site.

Thanks, Clement. Driving traffic to the profile pages is imperative.

New profile pages on any site (high DA or low DA) will also have a PA of 1 to start off with.
I believe that is not something you have to worry about as long as it's from a high authority trusted site
One thing you might want to look into is whether the link is a do-follow link or a no-follow link as Google don't follow no-follow link, if you are trying to rank in other search engines (such as yahoo), then it won't be too much of a concern
-
Thanks for your help, Barry. The link-building campaign is just beginning for our site and I see lots of work up ahead!

Thanks for the tips, Dan. They are much appreciated. As far the URL's are concerned, our page shouldn't be pw protected or blocking robots

Having links from diverse and quality domains helps a lot in terms of link building. The fact the pages that you have links on have low authority isn't bad and pretty natural looking.
That said they're not going to be a magic bullet in terms of getting you ranking but should definitely count as another domain pointing in. I would definitely recommend getting links like these into your business sites as part of your link portfolio.
As for why they don't show in OSE, could just be because OSE hasn't crawled it.

These links are helpful because any link from a good domain is a great thing to have. OSE may not find them if those pages are blocked by a robots.txt file or password protected or something like that. Without seeing any URL's I can't really tell you for sure. But these are good links to have. Be sure to get higher PA and more relevant pages linking to you as well though. Having a good variety helps.

Does a nofollow link from a high DA site count towards trust?
I've been checking out competitors through the 'link intersect function in my Moz account. Many have got nofollow links from high DA websites. I understand that nofollow links do not count count as a backlink, but will they add towards the trust factor?

Setting up a separate site for link building
We are jump starting a link building campaign for a personal injury law firm. We're planning on doing things right with earning links to content people will actually want to share, sponsoring local events, etc. We're a little worried that some good opportunities could be missed due to the fact some people have assumptions about personal injury lawyers and would be hesitant to link to us simply because of our injury, regardless of what we're trying to share/promote. One solution we're considering is creating a foundation associated with the firm that supports relevant causes and provides the public with educational resources. That might get over our branding hurdle a bit. We've also discussed setting up a separate site for the foundation and actually building links to it rather than our main site, then linking the foundation site to our main site. The hope would be that we could get more links to the foundation site and it would in turn pass on link juice to our main site. My concern is whether this strategy makes any sense. We'd be putting good content on this foundation site rather than our main site. How much link juice would actually be passed on to our main site in this case? Would so much be lost that it would negate the whole purpose?

What do you when the wrong site links to you?
In doing research of our backlink profile, I've found a couple dozen of links from off-topic websites linking to us. You see, our domain is Voices.com and tends to scoop up links from unrelated sites that are clearly trying to link to another site such as evp-voices.com or areavoices.com or dozens of others. What would you do? Ask the webmaster to remove them because they are completely unrelated? Or would you keep them if you believed they aren't causing any harm?

Should I work on links to a specific page or site in general?
Hi Guys, I'm trying to have my page rank better for "sell my car Houston". I'm about to start working on getting links to our site and my question is should I work on getting links to that specific page or would it be OK to just get links to the home page (same seo effect)? Specific page: http://www.motorsonwheels.com/pages/sell-my-car-in-houston-tx Home page: http://www.motorsonwheels.com Thanks! -Nash

Effects of link bait page
Hi Mozzers! I'm thinking about putting a page with some interesting comedy content on my site as link bait and had a few questions on how i should go about it. 1. Should I link to this page from my home page or would it be better to build outside links to it and then funnel all the page rank to the pages on my site that i want ranking higher? I've been told that page rank is a tiny factor in ranking in the serps so is it worth doing if the only reason i'm building it is to funnel page rank to my important pages? The link bait page content will be on the same subject as my entire site so it will definitely help google associate my site with my product from the incoming links. 2. if a web page on my site receives links does it help other pages on my site to rank higher or just the page with the incoming links? One time i had a flurry of links pop up to my home page and it seemed like all my pages started ranking higher, but it might just have been coincidence? Any thoughts? 3. What's a good way to get my page seen by the masses to draw links? I thought about buying some stumbles on Stumbleupon to get it seen quickly but are there more or better ways to do this? Thanks in advance everyone! Ron

Which link building method is most effective?
I have been looking at different seo companies for link building. I found a ranked list on Topseos.com. Many of them offer the same services as offshore SEOs, namely: Article marketing blog comments forum comments/profiles bookmarking PR directories Link acquisition by contacting relevants sites and negotiating a fee for a link I know that custom link acquisition is the most effective, but it gets very expensive. And, you don't know what each link is going to cost you. Here are my questions: Of the other methods (other thank custom link acquisition), how would you rank their effectiveness? The other methods seem kinda gimmicky, is it worth the time/money? Have you seen sites rank well for competitve keywords using articles/bookmarking/blog comments/directories etc? How do you know i a company is going to them manually as they claim? as opposed to using some automated software. Thanks
