Link from home page

I see an abundance of websites that don't link out at all, and there is no data available to seoMoz for the sites, some like http:// regal - diving dot com (trying not to get moderated AGAIN Innocent need to show which link and its a competitor kind of) are not linking to anyone else just internal links.

Should I link out from home page, is this detrimental does ANY single link from home page show google that I am not a PROPER web business.

It seems there is an issue with OSE so I can't see any link data for the site. The site you mentioned is clearly a spam site with links to "office cleaning London" and other links on it's home page which are completely irrelevant for a Carribean diving site.
I am not sure what you mean "they don't link out to anyone". I see many links on their site. I checked a couple and the links work fine.

Appologies Ryan - it was caribbeandiving.com I am sorry. It says there is no data. This site is around for years and they cleverly dont link out to anyone all their links are dead ! So everyone enters thinking they are getting linked out and so the site has links inbound galore, but then they switch off the links and they are dead ends in their site. This site ranks No 1 for many search queries on my niche.
Ok thanks for your thoughts I did read your footer links post a bit ago. I nofollowed as these footer links sit on every single site page ! This could be see to harm these linked sites ? We are not sure.

I tried accessing http://www.regal-diving.com. It is not a valid address. Can you please type in the valid address so I can copy/paste it into a browser?
The Linkscape crawler which SEOmoz uses crawls the top 25% of web pages. Generally speaking, any other pages do not have much, if any, SEO value. Google does not even crawl 100% of web pages.
Linking out from your home page, or any other page, is a normal practice for most websites. There is nothing wrong with it whatsoever. You can visit the SEOmoz home page or that of most any site and there are often external links. It is a common practice to link to social pages, the website's developer, the website's SEO provider, etc. which are all external links.

How to find page with the link that returns a 404 error indicated in my crawl diagnostics?
Hi Newbie here - I am trying to understand what to do, step by step, after getting my initial reports back from seomoz. The first is regarding the 404 errors shown as high priority to fix, in crawl diagnostics. I reviewed the support info help on the crawl diagnostics page referring to 404 errors, but still did not understand exactly what I am supposed to do...same with the Q&A section when I searched how to fix 404 errors. I just could not understand exactly what anyone was talking about in relation to my 404 issues. It seems I would want to find the page that had the bad link that sent a visitor to a page not found, and then correct the problem by removing the link, or correcting and re-uploading the page being linked to. I saw some suggestions that seemed to indicate that seomoz itself will not let me find the page where the bad link is and that I would need to use some external program to do this. I would think that if seomoz found the bad page, it would also tell me what page the link(s) to the bad page exists on. A number of suggestions were to use a 301 redirect somehow as the solution, but was not clear when to do this versus, just removing the bad link, or repairing the page the link was pointing to. I think therefore my question is how do I find the links that lead to 404 page not founds, and fix the problem. Thanks Galen

'Too many on-page links': doesn't add up...
Hi All, I'm fairly new to the site, have had a full site crawl and am somewhat confused by a large number of pages (82) reported as showing 'too many on page links'. Mine is a new e-commerce site selling a project management methodology. I have about 80 pages which describe individual templates and contain internal links to additional, related content on the site. The crawl warnings define too many on page links as roughly 100 "on any given page" yet almost none of the pages flagged contain more than 20-30 on links. Any thoughts and ideas about (a) the degree to which this will aeffect my ranking in practice and (b) how to resolve it gratefully received! Thanks in advance, Felix

What are no followed links?
Hi there, probably this is so self explaining that I didn't find it described in the tutorial about learning to use PRO or here in Q&Α. But remember, there is no dumb question 🙂 What are the followed vs no followed links? I understand followed links as backlinks to my site, but what is a no followed link? Thank you in advance!

Strange Links in OSE
Hey seomozers, The most recent Linkscape update has created some strange links to our domain. They are links which when I navigate to are download links, here is one example: http://mirror.centos.org/centos/4.9/updates/x86_64/headers/kernel-largesmp-0-2.6.9-89.0.25.EL.x86_64.hdr Now this links has nothing to do with our site and I can't see how it would count as a link to our domain, can anyone shed some light on why these types of links are being crawled as a link to our domain? Home page not indexed by Google
Hello, Teacherprose.com 1. Sitemap was successfully submitted via Google webmaster tools 2. Site has been up for two years. 3. Site shows up in Google results for "Teacher Resume Service" 4. According to Google and SEOMoz, home page not indexed by Google or Bing. I'm a novice, am I missing something obvious? Thank You, Eric

Link Count Per Page Including JavaScript Links - Should We Worry About Them?
With large ecommerce sites, we usually have more than 100 links per page and many times have more than 200 links on each page due to links and images in the header, footer, guided navigation and then the body product grid and content. When I use most on-page link counting tools like SEO x-ray and the SEO Moz Pro crawl report, I notice that every visible link on the page gets counted. This includes and javascript based links that expand the product grid to 30, 60 or view all, javascript sorting links, javascript links to view customer reviews for each product. etc. There was a QA post here http://www.seomoz.org/q/should-i-nofollow-the-main-navigation-on-certain-pages about nofollowing and page rank sculpting and it seems pretty unanimous that most don't think that page rank sculpting is very valuable. So my question is, are the javascript links on pages that don't link to another page viewed differently by search engines? If so, shouldn't there be a way to see on-page link count minus javascript call links that don't actually link to another page? To expand a bit on my question, we also use nofollow attributes on the text links in the left navigation that are meant for refining products just as the javascript links in the product grid are meant to refine the products, sort them, allow for product comparison, allow for viewing customer reviews, etc. So should it be ok to have 300 links on a page if the unimportant ones that you don't want crawled like the left navigation refinements and product grid javascript links all have rel="nofollow" applied to them? I know that would basicly be PageRank sculting, but it seems like the best options for shopping sites that have a lot of navigation links.
