The way you have to look at it is...
Best-case scenario: write completely original content for every one of your pages, and receive the highest ranking from search engines.
- OR -
Use existing content provided by manufacturers and not receive full potential in the SERP's. That's just the way it is.
I know exactly what you're saying though, don't get me wrong... writing unique content for 1,000's of pages can be a pain, especially if you're adding new ones on a regular basis. I just gave you the Pro/Con of your situation.
If you could ever find the time to write unique write-ups for every product, and get that out of the way, and then you're at a point where you're only adding a new product every week or so (even daily isn't that bad in terms of maintaining a website, really), then you'd be laughing and you'll see a massive difference in the SERP's as your content would be 100% unique and people would start scraping your site for theirs.
-
You are partially correct. Poor content is bad, too. You would need to spend a lot of time on making a system that generated substantial unique content, but it could be time well spent.

For someone starting out, this is really annoying.
Wow! You got great advice. Fantastic advice.
I think that you should reread it several times and hope that your competitor is not reading this thread.
Ressler gave you some of the best advice that you will get.

Other options:
Use reviews on your product pages (I'd suggest utilizing Schema markup - http://www.schema-creator.org)
Hiring out to college kids looking for a few bucks
Hiring freelancers

The best solution would be to work within your Content Management System to provide the best possible Title and H1 Tag for your customers, and then use an auto-generator to produce content. I work with companies that have less than 1000 products, so I don't have a lot of experience with the auto-generators, but it will give you a slight benefit.
If I were dealing with that many DVD's I would make landing pages for each Genre, some for major actors/actresses and major directors, and go after those niches while I hammered out the issues with my content management system.
-
Yes, Google will knock you for it.
Start with your most popular product, and work your way down. Also, make sure you write the content for the consumer, and not for your company.
Another suggestion I would have is personalizing your website. Brand yourself as an expert within the content, and mark the products that you suggest. If you have a favorite hammer, make sure people can quickly identify it.

Removing dates from wordpress blog URL
Hi all, Ours is website's blog is built with wordpress. We used to have the below URL pattern like may other websites: www.website.com/blog/2016/04/10/topic-on-how-to-optimise-blog. Recently we removed the date and made the URL pattern to just like: www.website.com/blog/topic-on-how-to-optimise-blog All the links have been generated with new URLs across the blog. Still all the old URLs have been reported as crawl errors in search console. I am wondering will there be any auto redirect formula to redirect all the old URLs to new URLs. Thanks

Temporary Blog Removal Process Question
Hello, We need to temporarily remove our entire blog from one of our sites. They rely very heavily on the blog content; as the rest of the site does not have much. Is there a 'best' process for going about this? – Should we put a 302 redirect on the entire blog and if so should it be to the homepage or an under-construction type page? Any extra insight or suggestions would be helpful and appreciated. Looking forward to hearing from you! Thank you in advance for the help. Best,

Removing index.php
I have question for the community and whether or not this is a good or bad idea. I currently have a Joomla site that displays www.domain.com/index.php in all the URLs with the exception of the home page. I have read that it's better to not have index.php showing in the URL at all. Does it really matter if I have index.php in my URL? I've read that it is a bad practice. I am thinking about installing the sh404SEF component on my site and removing the index.php. However, I rank pretty high for the keywords I want in Google, Bing and Yahoo. All of the URLs that show up in the searches have index.php as part of the URL. Has anyone ever used sh404SEF to remove the index.php and how did you overcome not loosing your search engine links? I don't want an existing search showing www.domain.com/index.php/sales and it not linking to the correct page which would now be www.domain.com/sales. I guess I could insert the proper redirects in the htaccess file. But I was hoping to avoid having every page of my site in the htaccess file for redirecting. Any help or advice appreciated.

If we remove all of the content for a branch office in one city from a web site, will it harm rankings for the other branches?
We have a client with a large, multi-city home services business. The service offerings vary from city to city, so each branch has it's own section on a fairly large (~6,000 pages) web site. Each branch drives a significant amount of revenue from organic searches specific to its geographic location (ex: Houston plumbers or Fort Worth landscaping). Recently, one of the larger branches has decided that it wants its own web site on a new domain because they have been convinced by an SEO firm that they can get better results with a standalone site. That branch wants us to remove all of its content (700-800 pages) on the current site and has said we can 301 all inbound links to the removed content to other pages on the existing site to mitigate any loss to domain authority. The other branch managers want to know if removing this city-specific content could negatively impact search rankings for their cities. On the surface it seems like as long as we have proper redirects in place, the other branches should be okay. Am I missing something?

Should I Remove Dates From My Old Posts
I have a web site that has content about home improvement topics but the site has no new content since 2010. All the posts on the wordpress site have the date which are all 2010 and prior. Is there a downside in terms of search engine rankings to remove the dates or changing the dates? What are the risks to removing the dates? Could I lose rankings if I do this? Do you have any personal experience with this situation?

How to Remove Joomla Canonical and Duplicate Page Content
I've attempted to follow advice from the Q&A section. Currently on the site www.cherrycreekspine.com, I've edited the .htaccess file to help with 301s - all pages redirect to www.cherrycreekspine.com. Secondly, I'd added the canonical statement in the header of the web pages. I have cut the Duplicate Page Content in half ... now I have a remaining 40 pages to fix up. This is my practice site to try and understand what SEOmoz can do for me. I've looked at some of your videos on Youtube ... I feel like I'm scrambling around to the Q&A and the internet to understand this product. I'm reading the beginners guide.... any other resources would be helpful.

Which duplicate content should I remove?
I have duplicate content and am trying to figure out which URL to remove. What should I take into consideration? Authority? How close to the root the page is? How clear the path is? Would appreciate your help! Thanks!
