Link Anchor Text
-
As I keep studing SEO I reach to the conclusion that the Anchor Text from other site is crucial to get more positive results for our website and for the link-building strategy.
My question is - Is it better to have an Anchor Text to my main link our should I ask for a determine targeted keyword?
Tks in advance!

There's usually more to it. Links are just one part of the algorithm; although probably the biggest piece of the pie, there are so many contributing factors that it would be difficult to pin point which metric is the reason that specific site is winning (and in most cases, if not all, it's more than just one metric).
Sorry I can't answer it, but that's the question so many website owners & SEOs have: "Why is that site ranking above mine?". It's never an easy question to answer :).

Hello Andy,
Tks for the response!
One question thow. How the hell did you detected that carglass as all the better keywords (I actually analyse it and they are in facto with 10 major keywords in 1º place in google.pt)? :))) Give me your light :))
Tks in advance!

Hello Jon,
Awesome response. Clear and objective. I got it now
One more question thow. In those 2 sites www.expressglass.pt and www.carglass.pt that I mention before the www.carglass.pt that as less links have all main keywords of the business area ranked in 1º place in google.pt but in the anchor text they only have their link. How come they are getting all the keywords in 1º positions?
Tks in advance!

It would probably be best to focus on one, rather than two. I'd recommend 301-redirecting one domain to the other. Then you capture all that authority and relevance in one place. Since there are more root domains pointing to www.carglass.pt and they are almost the same authority, redirecting www.expressglass.pt to www.carglass.pt would probably be your best bet, since you have better keywords in the www.carglass.pt domain and then you can more easily rank for more competitive/valuable terms.
-
OK Gotcha!
Links accomplish two things. The first is authority, and the second is relevance. The authority comes from the trust & authority of the linking site, and the relevance comes from the anchor text and the co-citation (co-citations means the content/links around that specific link you're getting).
So, anchor text influences relevance. If you're both trying to rank for the term Glass, and one has no links with the word "Glass" in any of them, while the author has a few links with the anchor text of "Glass", then the second will be deemed more relevant to the search, therefore ranking above the other. At the same time, if you abuse the anchor text property, by for example having every single one of your links having the exact phrase of "Glass", then Google will find it manipulative and lessen the authority of these links.
So, in conclusion, anchor text plays the role of relevancy.

Hello Jon,
Im making a analyse beteween 2 sites:
www.expressglass.pt and www.carglass.pt
In the link analyses of SEOmoz of this two websites I can detect more links to www.expressglass.pt compared to www.carglass.pt. However you see the the Anchor text of the links of the expressglass site and most of them are without an anchor text. Does this influence the link-building? Whats the role of the anchor text?
Tks in advance!

You're going to have to clarify Pedro, I don't exactly know what you're asking :(. Sorry!

How would you link build to this page?
Hi Guys, I'm looking to build links to a commercial page similar to this: https://apolloblinds.com.au/venetian-blinds/ How would you even create quality links (not against Google TOS) to a commercial page like that? Any ideas would be very much appreciated. Cheers.

More bad links
Hi, After a recent disastrous dalliance with a rogue SEO company I disavowed quite a few domains (links he had gained) which I was receiving a penalty of about 23 places. I cleaned up the site and added meta descriptions where missing, and deleted duplicate titles and pages. This gained me another 5 places. In the meantime I have been getting a few links from wedding blogs, adobe forums and other relevant sites so was expecting an upward momentum. Since the high point of bottom of page 1 I have slowly slid back down to near the bottom of page two for my main keywords. Just checked my webmaster tools latest links and another 4 domains have appeared (gained by the dodgy SEO) : domain:erwinskee.blog.co.uk domain:grencholerz.blog.co.uk domain:valeriiees.blog.co.uk domain:gb.bizin.eu They all look bad so I am going to disavow. I expect to find an improvement when I disavow these new domains. As I have said, have started using the open site explorer tool to check my competitors backlinks and getting some low level links(I'm a wedding photographer) like forum comments and blog comments and good directories. I know there is much more than this to SEO and plan on raising my game as time progresses. I have also gained more links from the domains I disavowed on the 8th January mostly from www.friendfeed.com. will webmaster tools ignore any new links from previously disavowed domains? Like I have said I know there are better ways to get links, but are these links (forum comments, blog comments and respectable directories) one way of raising my rankings? To be honest that is all my competitors have got other than some of the top boys might have a photograph or two on another site with a link. No-one has a decent article or review anywhere (which is my next stage of getting links). Thanks! David.

Disavow Links & Paid Link Removal (discussion)
Hey everyone, We've been talking about this issue a bit over the last week in our office, I wanted to extend the idea out to the Moz community and see if anyone has some additional perspective on the issue. Let me break-down the scenario: We're in the process of cleaning-up the link profile for a new client, which contains many low quality SEO-directory links placed by a previous vendor. Recently, we made a connection to a webmaster who controls a huge directory network. This person found 100+ links to our client's site on their network and wants $5/link to have them removed. Client was not hit with a manual penalty, this clean-up could be considered proactive, but an algorithmic 'penalty' is suspected based on historical keyword rankings. **The Issue: **We can pay this ninja $800+ to have him/her remove the links from his directory network, and hope it does the trick. When talking about scaling this tactic, we run into some ridiculously high numbers when you talk about providing this service to multiple clients. **The Silver Lining: **Disavow Links file. I'm curious what the effectiveness of creating this around the 100+ directory links could be, especially since the client hasn't been slapped with a manual penalty. The Debate: Is putting a disavow file together a better alternative to paying for crappy links to be removed? Are we actually solving the bad link problem by disavowing or just patching it? Would choosing not to pay ridiculous fees and submitting a disavow file for these links be considered a "good faith effort" in Google's eyes (especially considering there has been no manual penalty assessed)?

To recover from Penguin update, shall i remove the links or disavow links?
Hi, One of our websites hit by Penguin update and I now know where the links are coming from. I have chance to remove the links from those incoming links but I am a little confused whether i should just remove the links from incoming links or disavow the links? Thanks

What url should i link to?
Hi everybody, after some discussions i decided to keep my page on the old domain for better seo rankings; However, the new third level domain sounds better: poltronafraubrescia.zenucchi.it.... the question is: i'm going to recive a high value link and i don't know if i should link directly to the old adress ( www.zenucchi.it/ITA/poltrona-frau-brescia.it ) where the page is located or to the new one by making a 301 redirect to the previous. what's best? and second question what's the way to keep the page on this adress ( www.zenucchi.it/ITA/poltrona-frau-brescia.it ) but show poltronafraubrescia.zenucchi.it as url? thank you guido

Should I remove paid links?
I recently added about 20 paid links from directories but have since seen a 10% drop in traffic. I did also delete about 1000 pages of content that had no inbound links and were duplicated on other sites on the web and replaced the content with new content supplied by a client but still duplicated on other sites on the web, old URLs no longer valid or linked to, new content on new URLs. Assuming the drop in traffic had nothing to do with the content change mentioned above, should I remove the paid links in an attempt to recover? I don't think the old content was bringing in much traffic as it appeared elsewhere on more authoritive sites than mine.
