Local directories

I was wondering if there is a comprehensive list somewhere of places I should enter in my business information. I have done the usual google places, city search, yahoo, and many others. i have just been cruising for places to enter my information, and I am sure I have missed some.

Hi Ayetti,
Josh has given you one resource. I can give you some more. Here is an excellent article by Myles Anderson at Search Engine Land on the top 50 citation sources for both the USA and UK:
http://searchengineland.com/top-50-citation-sources-for-uk-us-local-businesses-104938
Also, read David Mihm's Local Search Ranking Factors Report from 2011. This is the premiere survey in the Local Search Industry. Good comments and data about citations/directories there:
http://www.davidmihm.com/local-search-ranking-factors.shtml
Finally, go to GetListed.org (also a David Mihm product) and go through the process of entering your legal business name and zip code to see what results you get. Then read through the further information on the site about other places to list your business.
You essentially have 2 choices - to do all submissions manually, or, to create your Google Place Page manually and then do a paid submission via either Localeze of Universal Business Listing. If you go the paid route, they submit the business to a ton of directories (can't remember the exact number off the top of my head but it's quite a few). If you do it manually, you have more exact control over where you list yourself and the details you provide on each listing.
Then, beyond the regular local business indexes, there may be important industry-related directories where it would be good for your specific type of business to be listed. Those you will have to hunt for yourself. For example, if your products were Made-in-the-USA, you might want to find some little directories that focus specifically on that.
Hopefully, these resources will be helpful to you. Good luck!

I checked out your link and that pretty much summed it up, it seems as if there are no GREAT directories, it is all about figuring out which one will work for you, and whether my category will actually index.

Hey Ayetti,
There used to be a list in here somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. If you're looking for more directories, check out this post by Ross Hudgens:

There are many ways that you can go about finding directories yourself, and focus on higher quality types.

I'm not ranking locally.....
Hello, We own the business BIM Fitness and Performance in Fort Myers, FL. However, when we do a search near us, we are down at the very bottom of the page. Can anyone provide some insight as to why this may be? I know SEO is the long game but is there anyway we can at least appear higher up locally?

Schema for a local business with multiple locations
Hello I am trying to add schema to a website that has several locations. Is the best way to do this is by tagging the home page of the website as the business main location and then create a page for each location and then mark them up accordingly? Thank you for your help.

Local SEO: Specific pointers on how to improve my campaign
Hello, I changed my address midstream in my campaign, from spelling out "Suite H" to now it's #H. Wow, what a cleanup job. I'm in at least 3 dozen directories I've found, and it looks like there are more. I'm adding myself to all the main directories that yext lists here. I've also used whitespark for a couple of months. My site is here. The term I'm targeting is "Boise Weight Loss. I"m on page 3 and not in the local results. Could you guys give me some pointers on how to get up into the top 3 of the local results? I'm planning on cleaning up and adding directories. I don't know how many I'll need, and of course I am looking for pointers on the other factors (besides citations) as well. Thanks!

Google+ Local Listing - No Physical Address
Hi everyone, I have a client who won't be renewing his lease for where he conducts his business. Instead he will be working from home. That being said, he does not wish to have his personal address details showing within his local listing. Is there any other way to still show for Google Local without a personal or business address? Is a PO box possible, other there any other alternatives? Thanks in advance. Leo

Local Seo Help!
Hi everyone, Google Places is going to be the death of me. I have asked a few questions on this topic before but nothing seems to work. Here are some of my problems/concerns: It keeps deleting my description!? Have you seen this before? The "more about this place" section has not been updated since I claimed the listing over 3 months ago. The website it lists at the top of that section is our old website address which no longer works. The site was through a site builder and the company will not forward the domain to the new site. Are there any companies or services that can help build a great profile and help increase my rankings? I am starting to think this is over my head. Do I delete the page and start over? Any advice? Please! I really appreciate your help! -Brant

Google Places - Different NAP on various directories...
My client's veterinary clinic uses a service called Localvets.com which is a division of Yext.com. This service updates listings and sponsors them across various directories. Since this is a referral service (they get paid for new clients) they use a custom phone number and custom website address for these listings. Question: Is this hurting the SEO potential of the Google Places listing since the N.A.P. are not the same? Thoughts?

What's the deal with this local business directory? (http://www.camerchants.com/)
They have a couple listings of us with screwy info but i can't actually use their website, all the buttons that say "join" or "write a review" "uplaod an image" etc, are just an href="#" and don't actually do anything??? I figured maybe they have some broken javascript so i tried using different browsers (firefox & chrome in mac, and IE in windows.) Here's our listings in there: http://www.camerchants.com/Business/Storage+-+Self+Service/Storwell.Self.Storage/MTAyODAzNQ# http://www.camerchants.com/Business/Movers/Storwell.Self.Storage/MTEwMjMyOQ

Maximising Local Search
Hi, I work for a weather company. I have recently begun to define a keyword strategy to target specific keyphrase segments with the objective to maximise webpage visibility and increase CTR. One growing keyphrase segment is "location weather" based searches (e.g. "London Weather", "Manchester Weather"). I am keen to understand how I can maximise our presence for location weather searches within the SERPs. This seems to be a common trends seeing as Google announced that over 20% of all searches contain a relevance to locality. I have been trying to understand if there is a way to maximise our location based weather pages, perhaps using the Google Local search tactic and if there are any recommendations you could suggest? ISSUE: In order to maximise your presence through local search you need a fixed address, something our site does not offer, however it does offer bespoke landing pages for a specific weather forecast based on locality (city, town etc) Essentially, are there any recommendations you can provide a website that offers specific location based pages (without a fixed address) to maximise our location weather based search rankings within the SERPs? Many thanks Simon
