Link Building - Quality,Quantity, or both?
-
Hello SEOMozzers,
As I embark on yet another client's link campaign I ask myself where best to spend resources(time and money) on link building. Typically I provide a mix of blogroll links, article syndication contextual links, social media posting and high PR one way links. I would like to know if anyone here finds one form of link to carry weight over the rest. I have my suspicion and my own theory on it but I would like to know what the moz concensus is.

I have seen several highly competitive verticals where a lot of exact match anchor text links are really effective even if they are from lower quality sites. I don't think this will work forever but I think it works too well in many cases in the present. I like to think that quality links are the way to go, but I've seen a lot of cases where a high number of low quality links are winning.

Rand has a great post here: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/buying-links-is-shallow-buying-blogs-now-thats-a-strategy
Our goal is to focus on Quality, but we will take what we can.

remember Looksmart!? Man the good old days

Yes, directories was one I forgot. I don't focus on them like I used to in the old days when Yahoo Express Submit, Google Directory/DMOZ and inktomi were the IT
-
Well it is hard to get good quality links, but out of the easier links to get. Matt Cutts stated that out of article posting, blog comments and directories, he said tha directoreis mixed with a few quallity links still hold value, the others do not.
What to look for in a directory? either quality, relevancy or local.

Internal Links issue in webmaster
we implemented our website on the basis of WordPress, then we migrate our website to PHP (YII Framework). after a while, we found out an issue around internal links which they were increasing severely. when we check our landing pages in webmaster (for example Price list), in contains 300 internal links but the reality is that there are no href tags on this page. it seems that webmaster calculate most of our links with the links of a single page and show them to us. is it natural or a mis configuration has been happened? How does link juice flow through hreflang?
We want to use the hreflang tag on our site (direct users searching for the Spanish version of spanishdict.com to spanishdict.com/traductor). Before doing so, we were wondering how link juice flows through hreflang? Any insight or resources on this would be very helpful. Thanks!

Can you regain any SERPs / link juice of links that have 404'd?
We have a client whose 301 redirects disappeared and have been gone for about 6 months now. We are going to be putting the 301 redirects back in place. Will we be able to regain any of the previous SERPs or link juice from old links or is all lost? Thanks in advance!

Referencing links in Articles and Blogs
Hi I am wondering if the tag in html is picked up by google as a reference point? I.e when you put a superscript in word it puts a small number next to your sentence. Then you have a list of reference at the end of the blog/article does google recognise this?

How do you build your pre-sales seo audit
Hello Moz community, I'd like to know if you build "pre-sales seo audit" when selling your services to a prospect. I think the main idea of a pre-sales audit is to show your prospect that you understand his industry (trends & competition) understand the opportunities know the roadblocks on his website If so, i'd be interested in discussing the information you put into your pre-sales audit and how you organise it. If you know ressources i should read as regards to mini seo audit / pre-sales seo audit just paste the link 🙂 Thanks for your answers

Should I have a 'more' button for links?
I have a website that has a page for each town. rather than listing all the towns with a link to each, I want to show only the most popular towns and have a 'more' button that shows all of them when you click it. I know that the search engine can always see the full list of links and even though the visitor can't this doesn't go against Google guidelines because there is no deception involved, the more button is quite clear. However, my colleague is concerned that this is 'making life hard' for the search engines and so the pages are less likely to be indexed. I disagree. Is he right to worry about this??
