Crazy # of Inbound Links
-
using open site explorer I see that my pages have a ridiculous amount of inbound links. I assume it is recording the same link from every page of the website through the menu somehow? Like the about us page has 200+ inbound links!!! ahh..
Is there a way to prevent this besides like.. no-following your own menu? Or is that what your supposed to do..
~~Confused.

Hi Alexander,
I should have read your additional information first. My original answer is below.
The correct way to deal with those pages is to make sure they redirect somewhere via a 301. (if you can't implement a 301, adding rel=canonical pointing to a relevant page would be your 2nd choice). Do this before you add nofollow links, or before blocking robots from crawling via robots.txt)
This will not only solve your SEOmoz errors, but preserve link juice and improve your SEO health from a search engine point of view.
How to implement the 301s depends on your site configuration, but best practice is to redirect each page individually to the appropriate landing page, instead of mass-redirecting everything to a single page (such as your homepage)
-------------- (as promised, here is my original answer below)----------------------------
This is completely normal. You are most likely correct that many of these links are coming internally from inside your own site. Yes, Linkscape will count every page with a navigation link to your homepage as a link.
(As a rule, OSE only counts one link target per page. So if on a page you have 1 navigation link pointing to your homepage, and another link in the text body also pointing to your homepage, OSE will only count the first link)
There is nothing wrong with this... in fact in most cases it indicates a healthy internal link structure. So there's no need to "fix" it.
On the other hand, if you simply want to filter your results in Open Site Explorer to exclude these links, to make your reports more manageable, there's a simple way to do this. From the 2nd drop-down menu, select to show links from "Only External" pages. This will filter out all of your self-referencing internal links.
Hope this helps. Best of luck with your SEO.

Sorry I meant to add that this is a 'rollover' thing from our previous website that was built in ColdFusion 0.o and for some reason seomoz is still finding those old pages and the new ones. So is this something that will go away with time or do I need to be actively trying to remove these old pages somehow.
Google is also finding a ridiculous number of crawl errors based on the old deleted site that is no longer online

Internal Links
I have a page that I am working to rank. Open Site Explorer shows that I have 69 internal links and a competitive site (ranked #4) has 822 internal links. The page I am looking to rank is on my main navigation menu so it should have an incoming link from every page on my site. My site is 6 years old and has 497 pages indexed according to Google Webmaster Tools. What do I need to do to improve the number of internal links that are being recognized?

What is the right schema.org link for a web design / developer / mobile agency?
It seems strange that a group of web developers would make up an entire structured language to designate businesses by category and somehow forget to include companies like.... web developers. So I must be missing it, what is correct to use?

How many outbound links is too many outbound links?
As a part of our SEO strategy, we have been focusing on writing several high quality articles with unique content. In these articles we regularly link to other websites when they are high quality, authoritative sites. Typically, the articles are 500 words or more and have 3-5 outbound links, but in some cases there are as many as 7 or 8 outbound links. Before we get too carried away with outbound links, I wanted to get some opinions on how many outbound links we should be trying to include and more information on how the outbound links work. Do they pass our website's authority on to the other website? Could our current linking strategy cause future SEO problems? Finally, do you have any suggestions for guidelines we should be using? Thank you for your help!

Do Navigation links count the main link on the page?
After reading this article http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/anchor-text it talks about how only one link per page counts if they are going to the same page. This is what i had learned in the past; however, my understanding was if it was a in the main navigation as a child or grandchild or in the side navigation and then in the main body text, the link in the main body would count/ be held higher than the other options.

Alternatives for having less then 100 links per page
Guys, I'm aware of the recomendation of having <100 links per page. The thing is I'm running a vacation rental website (my clients pay me to advertise their properties on my website). We use an AJAX interface with pagination to show the properties. So I have cities that have +400 properties on them... the pagination works fine but google can't crawl trough it (there is a google doc about making ajax systems crawlable, but that would invove a huge rewrite of our code and I dont understand how it helps the SEO). So my question is: what do I do to mantain each property having at least one link pointing to them at the same time that I keep the # of links in each page <100 ? Any suggestions ?

How to trace back a link from a 404 error?
How do I find the link that is still refferring to a 404 error? Somewhere on my site there is a link pointing to an un-usable page and I cant find where that link is to fix the 404 error. I could just delete the page all together, but I would like to find the problematic link first.
