Www. version of my site shows nothing in Open Site Explorer
-
When I first setup my site the domain was learnbonds.com. I moved hosts a couple of months ago and as part of the process I asked them to make the site show as www.learnbonds.com which they did.
Now however when I goto www.learnbonds.com in open site explorer it says there is no data. When I enter learnbonds.com into open site explorer it gives me data but says that the site has been redirected to the www. version which shows no data.
Also in google webmaster when I try to set the preferred domain as the www. version it gives me the following message:
Part of the process of setting a preferred domain is to verify that you own http://www.learnbonds.com/. Please verify http://www.learnbonds.com/.
I am concerned that this is hurting my SEO and would appreciate any advice you can give.
Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,
You will need to verify the www verison of your site through Webmaster Tools as well, as it's technically a different site.
It's the same exact process as what you likely did when verifying the non-www version, except the file that you upload to your server will be slightly different (it will contain a different verification code that Google generates for the www version).
If you used a different method, then you should just repeat the process for the www version and then you should be able to set it as the preferred domain. If you have any trouble with the verification, just let me know and I'll be glad to help.

Ok great thank you. Should I not worry about the google webmaster issue either?
Thanks

Hi Dave,
This is because of the way Open Site Explorer works. The data itself come from SEOMoz's Linkscape Index, which was last updated in February. However when you enter a site in to OSE, i will check the status of the site and let you know about 301 redirects, which is what your hosting provider implemented in order to display the site as www.learnbonds.com.
So what I think is happening is that www.learnbonds.com has not yet been added to the Linkscape Index, which is why no data is showing. The next update is scheduled for April 27th, so when this update occurs you should see your data for www.learnbonds.com rather then learnbonds.com.
I doubt this is harming your SEO as 301 redirect pass most of your authority to the new domain. The only potential harm is if you had a specific individual page on learnbonds.com that had you had built links to (i.e. learnbonds.com/example.html) and it hasn't been redirected to the correlating page at www.learnbonds.com.
I don't think you need to worry though, this looks to simply be an issue with old data in OSE's index, and isn't a reflection of the current state of your site. Remember OSE's data is not real-time. Check back on the 27th and I think you'll see that everything is good to go.

hey, on https://www.xxx.co we've setup a 301 redirect to xxx.us - > BUT in webmaster tools its still showing a 200 load ok, whereas on all other testing tools its showing a 301 redirect (screamingfrog etc) even https://dns.google.com/query?name=www.xxx.co is showing that its 301 redirected. Any ideas? as we want to trigger the change of address tool in WMT and its saying it cant as it loads the homepage still....

Why is this site ranking higher?
We've put a fair bit of effort into delivering value here: https://lewescountycars.co.uk/ But a search for "Lewes taxis" or "taxis Lewes" puts this site above us: https://www.lewestowntaxis.co.uk/ As you can you see, this is a tiny site that we outperform in most ways.... what can we do to rank above it that we haven't already done? Thanks in advance - Gerard.

Duplicate Version of My Website
Hello Again, Looking for a little help to help me understand what exactly is going on here. Ive taken over maintenance of a website and have so far fixed a lot of issues. ahrefs has shown me that a second version of my companies website exists that exists at a second url. This second website is linked to the actual company website like I haven't seen before. www(dot)#(dot)co(dot)uk is the main company website. But a second accessible version exists and is accessible at www(dot)#(dot)co(dot)uk The instruments version is a direct copy and all of the links point directly to my main site. Any changes I make on the main version are automatically applied to the other version. It shows up as a SPAM back link on moz as all of the link points to my website etc Ideally in my mind, the instruments version homepage should simply re-direct to the main homepage to solve this "duplicate content and spammy backlink" issue however, the instruments version is the same suffix that all our company emails work with. Basically, HELP lol. I have no understanding of how this is set up, and the best way in which to deal and if it could affect anything such as company emails.

Right redirect to transfer juice www, no-www and website movement
Hi here is my problem, I have a website which works both with www. and without www; Now I want to optimize it and transfer it to another new domain along with the link juice of both the old domain with www and without www. I don't want to do it with multiple redirects but with just one clean redirect (I know that search engines don't like that, am I right?). What should I write in the .htaccess of the old domain and in the one of the new domain? To summarize I want something like that: www.oldsite.com/anyfile.html>301>www.newsite.com/anyfile.html oldsite.com/anyfile.html>301>www.newsite.com/anyfile.html newsite.com/anyfile.html>301?>www.newsite.com/anyfile.html Thanks

Does 301 redirecting a site multiple times keep the value of the original site?
Hi, All! If I 301 redirect site www.abc.com to www.def.com, it should pass (almost) all linkjuice, rank, trust, etc. What happens if I then redirect site www.def.com to www.ghi.com? Does the value of the original site pass indefinitely as long as you do the redirects correctly? Or does it start to be devalued at some point? If anyone's had experience redirecting a site more than once and they've seen reportable good/bad/neutral results, that would be very helpful. Thanks in advance! -Aviva B
