How quickly should I change/edit sites to avoid potential over optimization penalty?
-
Regard today's White Board, I'm wondering how quickly one should start changing title tags, page content, footer links, etc. on sites? I operate a few different sites and some of them definitely have things that need to be changed. Would it be weird or trigger something in Google if all the sites were changed in 24 - 48 hours?
Thanks for your help!

This is just an example. The point behind it is to optimize your site and structure it for the user via educating/entertainment/enlightening content with keyword variations.
Build your content to help your users, and keep keyword variation in mind.

That is a lot of detail! Hope it is correct because I am gonna follow it.

Thanks guys. I've seen some downward movement recently with some of my sites and with all the buzz about OOP (and the fact that I've definitely not updated some of these sites in awhile so they are too keyword heavy among other things) I know that I need to make changes on multiple sites to fall in line with the whole "de-optimization is the new optmization" stuff.
I've heard that other folks who have diluted keyword density, created less keyword heavy title tags, etc. saw their rankings improve with days or a week. Hopefully that will happen here too. But I think going slowly, page by page, is probably best.

To be honest, all you need to worry about is the SERPs. I would recommend doing a few changes to pages that currently aren't ranking very well in the SERPS, and leave the well ranking pages alone for the time being. If you start to see your site or individual pages slowly falling down the rankings then that's the time to revisit those pages and fine tune them.
The worse thing you can do is suddenly change things on every page and though no fault of your own your site falls down the rankings because you changed its on-page SEO.
I think picking 2 keywords to optimise content for per page is more than enough to put you in a good position on google, anything more than that and I think you're probably trying to optimise a little too well, which is the whole point of this update.

Sorry, Changing my answer. Heres what I have learned today.
If your keyword is [Exact] for all the following factors on one of your pages Titles, H1s, Bodys, Navigations, descriptions, and footer there is a good chance of a ranking loss for your [Exact] _keywords _in a SERP.
Rand recommends that we use helpful keyword variations for each of these.
For example.
Your Title can be: **company [keyword] | Explain what the page is about [maybe keyword] **
Your H1 can be : **Explain what lies beneath [keyword] **
Your Body can be: 400 or more words 2 [keywords]one in bold
Your** Body Links** can be: Learn more about this 2 [keywords]
Your**** Navigation** can be: [keyword] **
Your Description can be: Whatever will attract your demographic from the SERP (no keyword)
Footer - contact us / sitemap / company info / ** no keywords!**
Every learn link needs to lead to a page where the user will learn. Always offer more value to your readers, they are the ones that will help you rank.

Duplicate content on events site
I have an event website and for every day the event occurs the event has a page. For example: The Oktoberfest in Germany the event takes 16 days. My site would have 16 (almost)identical pages about the Oktoberfest(same text, adres, photos, contact info). The only difference between the pages is the date mentioned on the page. I use rich snippets. How does google treat my pages and what is the best practice.

My report is showing duplicate titles.. for http://www.mysite.com/ & http://mysite.com
Is this because I setup my campaign wrong in seo moz or should I have my site setup differently to forward all traffic without the www to the www version? Or vise versa? Thanks for any advice!

Spanish version of site - best practice?
I need to create a Spanish version of an existing site. My idea was to have the Spanish content switch out the English content if the query string had something like ?l=es. It would also drop a cookie so that all other pages would switch out content as well. I do want the Spanish content to be indexed and rank in the search engines, though. I would include all of the Spanish versions (with the ?l=es) in the site map and link to them on every page with a link to the Spanish version. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is this a bad idea? Thanks! Tom

Better page optimization for specific locations
I have a client that gets great ranking in a certain city mainly because that is their main corporate office and the address and city name is all over the place in their content. I am about to embark on getting them higher ranking in other cities as well and am looking for the best approach to make that possible. My thoughts... 1- create seperate content for the other locations, but the body information would probably end up looking duplicate, but I could be more specific with title, description and content realting to that specific city. 2- add the additional cities to the current content??? Need some expert advice. Thanks

Seasonal site structure
Bit of a complicated one for anyone who likes a challenge.. We sell a range of products which are very seasonal, so therefore have a seasonal section within the store with the products categorized into their relevant categories. In additon to this i wanted to also create a feature of each season so in effect pull forward on to a new tab the relevant season ie: Valentine so that customers didn't have to hunt for the products by going via seasonal shop etc The problem is that my site urls display last-category/product-title so in effect as the seasons change these urls will be deleted. They do remain elsewhere in our catalogue.. Does this make sense?

Campaign for pages that I want to optimize?
Go easy on my guys and gals. I'm brand new to the world of SEO and I'm a Realtor by trade, so this is all new to me, but exciting and fascinating at the same time. You might ask why I don't hire a company to do the SEO for me for my website at: www.DiscountRealEstateFees.com since I'm one of those Realtors who makes a ton of money every year. Unfortunately, that's not the case and some day when I've built my business to a point that I can relax and breathe easy, I will hire that company. Besides, by then, I'll be an SEO expert and be able to ride herd on them if they're not doing a good job! My question is: Should I create a campaign on SEOMoz.org for each page on my website that I want to optimize or are the campaigns supposed to be for individual websites only? Thanks for your help!

Sister Sites or Joint Family?
A large News Media Group has a Tv Channel, print newspaper, radio channel (for music primarly) and an online website that includes the newspaper content and other original content in different media. My question is, is it better to have independant websites for these different mediums or have all the content on one big website. Currently the newspaper and blog are online as one whereas the radio channel has its own website and the television has its own. So should we maintain sister sites and cross link to each other or have one big happy family under one house? Best, Rishad.
