Secondshells.com has $3k a month to spend on SEO & marketing. HOW should I spend it & with whom?
-
We have a Magento based ecommerce site www.secondshells.com and are looking for ways to improve traffic. Our goal is to drive sales of our products.
We are in the Android tablet accessory business, since its fairly new the competition is not that great, we would like to get up in organic rankings for our keywords.
We have blog updated daily, building backlinks, PR, facebook, twitter, google+, Videos on Youtube, PPC, product feeds to Bing, Google & The Find. The foundation is there but it's a lot to handle in-house.
The real question is who to choose to execute the strategy & where to pick them from. There are 1,000's of companies, individuals, Elance & Odesk. Who to choose to execute is more difficult than choosing the direction. We are straightforward and intelligent and want people who can provide a plan of action, execute and report it. All white hat seomoz style of promotion.
There are so many choices and avenues to pursue that it is difficult to make a decision as to which way to go. Any guidance or suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi Micheal,
First of all, congratulations on your endeavor. Looks like you've done a lot of hard work and you should be congratulated for your efforts.
Finding a good SEO firm can be both challenging and rewarding. The range of talent out there runs from super to snake oil salesman. Whoever you hire, be sure to do some research. Ask for a list of clients and recommendations (sometimes, for practical reasons, they can't provide this) Talk to folks who have used the service. Ask about certifications, training, philosophy and influences. And most importantly, ask about the techniques they will use.
A good place to start is the SEOmoz Recommended list, although most of these folks might be out of your price range.
A lot of good SEOs hang out here in the Q&A, and if you check their reputation you can often find a good "up-and-comer" that doesn't charge an arm and a leg for SEO services.
First and foremost, I'd look for a firm experienced in link building, especially in your situation. Wish I could suggest someone specific, but you fall in that tight area between doing it yourself, and hiring an outstanding firm.
Regardless, best of luck with your SEO!

WHO is a reputable firm...thats the question

It's too bad you just don't do the seo yourself. There is a very easy way to get traffic and high rankings for cell phone related stuff

Hey Michael,
In your case I would go for a long tail plan, try to get something really innovative into the field this way you can make yourself a name.(Innovative ~ both from Marketing and SEO).
I can't tell you numbers like how much to spend on this or that, but if you have a low budget I would try inbound marketing vs. payed marketing, cutting some costs from your list.
Gr.,

Interesting business and as tablet is new to the market as compare to smart phones, I am sure the competition will be easy! The budget sounds decent to me, so why not invest in making a mobile version of the website because its pretty much make sense!
People who already have the android phones and tablets will be the most targeted traffic for your website! So why not make an online store that should be compatible to android phones and this will surly going to increase your ROI as they will most likely to buy the accessories!
Other thing that you can do is to create a blog with the website (if you already have it EPIC!) and start sharing knowledge about the gadgets and accessories. Videos can work great in increasing your website traffic and ROI

With that kind of budget, I think you could stand do do well with hiring a reputable SEO firm to manage your on-page optimizations, outreach, and PPC, then dedicate the rest to search engine and social platform advertising.

Is it getting harder to sell SEO services?
Is it just me, or is it getting harder to sell SEO services? SEO costs more now and takes longer to achieve results There seem to be more good SEO agencies out there (gone are the days where the primary competition was offshore outsourcers and web design agencies) It seems that the number of agencies is growing faster than the number of companies buying services As online competition heats up, it takes more and more budget to really "win" in a market, but so few companies are willing to invest enough Any others notice similar trends? What will the future look like?

Ideal SEO / Social Media Employee Skillset
I’ve been wondering recently what makes a good SEO / Social Media employee. It seems to me that SEO and Social Media are in the process of merging into a single role. What are your thoughts on the skills that this new world SEO / Social Media employee would need? Or do you think these roles should ideally remain separate and that a “traditional” SEO is more what is needed? My own role has been moving much more towards social media recently and I was wondering if this was a common trend!

What is the SEO term for Tree Search Engine results when we lookup for a company?
Hi Folks, I have a newbie question: When I do a Google search for: SEOmoz i get a SERP for SEOmoz in a form of a Tree, on the other hand if I search another company, let's say PAF.ca I get individual page results on google. Question is: What is the difference between the two, and how do we usually ask Google to display results of a Company name in the form of a tree or Main Category with Subpages in the SERP when looking for that company name. For my Visual Friends, Please find attached a Print screens that could explain my question a bit more. eAQpw.jpg

Post your favorite SEOs for Mom and Pop Shops
I'm trying to compile a list of SEOs and/or Inbound Marketers that specialize in helping micro-businesses. For the purposes of this study 'micro' means any business with 5 or fewer employees. Names are great. Website URLs would be Fab. Twitter accounts would be super Fab. For instance: David Mihm http://www.davidmihm.com/ @davidmihm I'd be happy to share the final list with anyone who provides a name.

Hi Mozzers! With the shut down of the SEOMoz marketplace what are some other resources for finding people to help with SEO tasks? Craigslist seems like the best resource for this, but are there any other good ones?

Managing SEO Partners
Hi, Up until yesterday my main role was to implement & create SEO strategies and analytics for varying clients, and our own agency. Going forward I have been tasked with sourcing and managing SEO partners for our existing and future clients. This is totally a new concept for me, and I was wondering if any mozzers out there have been tasked with similar roles and could give me some ideas on what questions I should be asking, or maybe have an SEO matrix to rank agencies to help match to clients? Your help as always is greatly appreciated. Many thanks Sean
