Using rel="author" on product descriptions
-
Unique and effective product descriptions can be one of the most expensive investments that go into building a retail website. I would consider them part of the "intellectual property" of a company.
These descriptions are also one of the most often pirated types of content. Some product descriptions have been grabbed and used by hundreds of pirates.
When people grab your product descriptions it creates a duplicate content problem, it also starts cutting off your long-tail traffic.
The discussion topic here is....
Have you heard of anyone using rel="author" on product pages with substantive content?
Do you think there is any value in doing that?
Is this an abuse of rel="author"
Thank you!

Tried and tested.
If your authoring original content your not abusing the tag.
If your authoring the content using a well put together Google plus profile the benefits are much like authoring an article. Wonderful.
I'm yet to see if the subject mater of this article will also effect internal linking.

Hi!
Interesting thoughts, I have never tried that.

Should you aim for Google to use your meta tags?
When updating meta titles and descriptions, I'm taking note of whether Google is displaying the set tag or changing it to copy from the page. Does this affect the ranking position if Google is having to change the tag? How much should I worry if Google is choosing to change every other page? Thanks!

Do You Include Product Prices In Your Page Titles?
Hi Guys, So I'm currently mapping out a load of meta recommendations for a new client we're working with and i just wanted to get an idea about the do's and don'ts of adding product prices into page titles etc. I've looked around to see how people and other marketer feel about this and the response seems to be mixed. I've included prices in titles in the past and had mixed success - I was just wondering if it's something you do regularly or something that you prefer to avoid? I don't think there is any right or wrong answer here - just be good to see how people feel about it. Thanks! 🙂

Will I cannibalize a ranked product by introducing a new product in the series with the same keywords?
Currently http://aoi-corp.com/safety-monitors/series-1000 ranks #4 for Oxygen Deficiency Monitor, the newer product http://aoi-corp.com/oxygen-deficiency-monitor/series-1300-oxygen-deficiency-monitor needs to rank for the same keyword. Will I hurt the Series 1000 ranking? Thoughts/advice on strategy? Thanks.

Product content length & links within product description
Hello, I have questions regarding content length and links within descriptions. With our ecommerce site, we have thousands of products, each with a unique description. In the product description, I have links to the parent category and grandparent category (if it has one) in the main product text which is generally about 175 words. Then I have a last paragraph that's about 75 words that includes links to our main homepage and our main product catalogue page. Is the content length long enough? I used to use text that was 500 words, and shortening it I still rank when launching new products, so I don't think an increase in text length will have any additional benefit. I do see conflicting information when I do searches, with some people recommending a minimum of 300 words and some saying to try and go a 1000 for category pages. In regards to the links, I noticed a competitor has stopped following this format, so I'm unsure if I should keep going too. Is it too many links to have each of the products link back to the main catalogue and homepage? Is it good to have links with anchor text to the categories a product is in? There are breadcrumbs on the page with these links already. There are already have heaps of links on our pages (footer, and a right sidebar with image links to relevant categories), so my pages do get flagged for too many links. Thanks!

IMG ALT tags - should they be the same or the product title?
I have about 300 products. Should I make all my IMG ALT tags with my keywords, such as sea glass jewelry, sea glass necklace, sea glass bracelets? Or, should I make them what their title is, some of which do not pertain to the keyword, such as By the Sea. Some of my products do have keywords in them, but not all. I am hesitant on changing all the titles, as almost all URLs are indexed.
