Best XML Sitemap Generator for Mac?
-
Hi all,
Recently moved from PC to Mac when starting a new job. One of the things I'm missing from my PC is G Site Crawler, and I haven't yet found a decent equivalent for the Mac.
Can anybody recommend something as good as G Site Crawler for the Mac? I.e. I need the flexibility to exclude by URL parameter etc etc.
Cheers everyone,
Mark

Thanks Crimson Penguin (really hope that's your real name!)
I have used sitemapdoc.com in the past, only problem is it limits you to 500 URLs. Really wish G Site would do a Mac version - same with Xenu, there's just nothing out there to do a job as well as those two on the Mac.
Cheers for your feedback - hoping somebody else can come up with something golden?

Of course I should also add, if you really want G Site Crawler, you could run a virtual windows on your Mac and carry on using it that way. I run windows on my mac using VMware Fusion:

One of my favourites is an online generator called sitemapdoc:
I believe it has all the features you are looking for.
Adam.

Best practices for making a very long URL shorter
Hi Moz folks! We are redesigning a website of 30,000+ pages. We are pulling together a spreadsheet for 301 redirects. So basically this: http://www.mywildlifesite.org/site/PageServerpagename=priorities_wildlife_endangered_species_protection#.Ws54SNPwbAw/mexican-spotted-owl Will direct to here, this is the nav architecture:

https://mywildlifesite.org/wildlife-conservtion/endangered-species-act-protections/endangered-species-list/birds/mexican-spotted-owl My question is, can I and should I truncate that new destination URL to make it easy for Google to see that the page topic is really the owl, like this:
https://mywildlifesite.org/endangered-species-list/mexican-spotted-owl Your input is greatly appreciated! Jane0 -

Should 301-ed links be removed from sitemap?
In an effort to do some housekeeping on our site we are wanting to change the URL format for a couple thousand links on our site. Those links will all been 301 redirected to corresponding links in the new URL format. For example, old URL format: /tag/flowers as well as search/flowerswill be 301-ed to, new URL format: /content/flowers**Question:**Since the old links also exist in our sitemap, should we add the new links to our sitemap in addition to the old links, or replace the old links with new ones in our sitemap? Just want to make sure we don’t lose the ranking we currently have for the old links.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

How do you handle Wordpress sitemaps within your site?
I have a regular site map on my site and I also have a Wordpress site installed within it that we use for blog/news content. I currently have an auto-sitemap generator installed in Wordpress which automatically updates the sitemap and submits it to the search engines each time the blog is updated. The question I have (which I think I know the answer to but I just want to confirm) is do I have to include all of the articles within the blog in the main site's sitemap despite the Wordpress sitemap having them in there already? If I do include the articles in the main website's sitemap, they would also be in the Wordpress sitemap as well, which is redundant. Redundancy is not good, so I just want to make sure.

Sitemaps and "noindex" pages
Experimenting a little bit to recover from Panda and added "noindex" tag for quite a few pages. Obviously now we need Google to re-crawl them ASAP and de-index. Should we leave these pages in sitemaps (with updated "lastmod") for that? Or just patiently wait? 🙂 What's the common/best way?

Best way to host new product?
Hi guys We are launching a new product, the web pages are being built by a 3rd party and fall outside our current CMS. We're considering either hosting it on 1) sub domain 2) folder within existing site (although will be tricky to implement) or 3) a different URL altogether. What would you say is the best for SEO? Many thanks in advance.... Nigel

How best to redirect URL from expired classified ads?
We have problem because our content are classifieds. Every ad expired after one or two mounts and then ad becomes inactive and we keep his page for one mount latter like a same page but we ad a notice that ad is inactive. After that we delete the ad and his page but need to redirect that URL to search results page which contains similar ads because we don't want to lose the traffic form that pages. How is the best way to redirect ad URL? Our thinking was to redirect internal without 301 redirection because the httacces file will be very big after a while and we are thinking to try a canonicalization because we don't want engine to think that we have to much duplicate content.
