Too Many On-Page Links
-
After running a site analysis on here it has come up and said that I have a lot o pages with too many on page links and that this might be why the site is being penalized.
Thing is I am not sure how to remedy this as one page that says it has 116 links is this one :
http://www.whosjack.org/10-films-with-some-crazy-bitches/
Although there is only one link in the body
Then again our home page has 165
which again it says is too many.
The thing is is that surely it doesn't count on links all over the page as other wise every news homepage would be penalised?
For example what would happen here on this home page? : http://www.dazeddigital.com/
Can anyone help me see what I am missing? Are there possible hidden links anywhere I should be looking for etc?
Thanks

The more links you have on a page the less link juice you pass along. This means that you can have 100 links on a page pointing to different pages but the strength of the link is reduced by there being so many. You are watering down the links. Now I'm not saying to have just one link on a page but to have links where they make sense. If you have a page on cars and a link to Hanes t shirts it doesn't look natural. Links should be relevent to content. Hope this helps. Good luck

ok thanks adam

There is no penalty for having a large number of internal links and yes every single link on the page (not just the ones within the article) are being counted.
The general guideline is to have no more than 100 internal links per page. This is because the more links you have on a page, the less link juice will pass through these links. It is important to note that the 100 links is only a rough guideline and for some sites it may not be possible to have less than this. Of course, if you can reduce the number of links on the page then it would be good but to reiterate, you will not get a penalty for this.
Adam.

Thank you for coming back to me Ben - I am looking for any possible thing that might be penalising us and in the account bit here it says that that is something that might make it happen.
There is also a site that has 4,000 backlinks to us that is down and I don't know what it is or why its linking to so much of our content - do you think this might have something to do with it?
(we saw a dramatic drop in traffic from the recent penguin and panda updates)

It's counting ALL the links.
Reducing the number of links on the page is best practice but I don't think there's a penalty for having too many links.
If you're struggling to rank the issue is probably elsewhere.

Page content is not very similar but topic is same: Will Google considers the rel canonical tags?
Hi Moz community, We have multiple pages from our own different sub-domains for same topics. These pages even rank in SERP for related keywords. Now we are planning to show only one of the pages in SERP. We cannot redirect unfortunately. We are planning to use rel canonical tags. But the page content is not same, only 20% is similar and 80% is different but the context is same. If we use rel canonicals, does Google accepts this? If not what should I do? Making header tags similar works? How Google responds if content is not matching? Just ignore or any negative score? Thanks

What happens when most of the website visitors end up at an "noindex" log-in page?
Hi all, As most of the users are visiting our website for log-in, we are planning to deindex login page. As they cannpt find it on SERP, they gonna visit our website and login; I just wonder what happens when most of the visitors just end up at homepage by browsing into an "noindex" page. Obviously it increases bounce rate and exit rate as they just gonna disappear. Is this going to push down us in rankings? What are the other concerns to check about? Thanks

Do back-links to non indexed sub-domains / sub-directories considered by Google as website backlinks and pass Pagerank to website?
Hi, If some noindexed links on our website or sub-domain got some backlinks, will that backlinks pass Pagerank / linkjuice to website? Will they be considered as backlinks to website by Google? Here is a statement from Matt cutts for the question. My question is same as below with answer? Eric Enge: Can a NoIndex page accumulate PageRank? Matt Cutts: A NoIndex page can accumulate PageRank, because the links are still followed outwards from a NoIndex page. Thanks

Website and landing pages - Proportionate authority
Does website's (homepage) ranking going to influence landing pages ranking or vice-versa? If the homepage is ranking good for a "keyword", will that improve ranking of other landing pages which are optimised for related "keywords" & Vice-versa?

How come google image search doesn't link to the right page?
For one site I work with the images link to the home page of the site rather than the page the image lives on. I think this is hurting my bounce rate quite a bit. Thoughts?

So, useless link exchange pages still work?!
After 3 years out of SEO I thought things might have moved on, but apparently not. Bit of back link research and all the top sites in my niche have tons of reciprocal links to barely relevant sites. Do I really have to do this? I mean I thought this was so out of date, it's not much better than keyword stuffing. So, should I just forget my lofty principles asking myself 'is this of any value to my users?' and just take the medicine?

Should I link to competitors?
Hi, I was wondering: we work in an extremely competitive market. There are 6 companies, offering the same service in my country: price comparison in a niche market. The competitors have hundreds of different websites, using iframe-techniques. Would it be helpful for me to link to those 6 competitors, in a piece of content about our company strategies, USP's and overview of the market? From a transparency point of view, i would prefer telling my visitors there are other competitors, which are undoubtedly performing very well, but we perform better on several aspects of the price comparison. On the other hand, my competitors benefit from the backlinks as well. Is my gain bigger than the gain of my competitors do you think? Has anyone tested this once?

Stop google indexing CDN pages
Just when I thought I'd seen it all, google hits me with another nasty surprise! I have a CDN to deliver images, js and css to visitors around the world. I have no links to static HTML pages on the site, as far as I can tell, but someone else may have - perhaps a scraper site? Google has decided the static pages they were able to access through the CDN have more value than my real pages, and they seem to be slowly replacing my pages in the index with the static pages. Anyone got an idea on how to stop that? Obviously, I have no access to the static area, because it is in the CDN, so there is no way I know of that I can have a robots file there. It could be that I have to trash the CDN and change it to only allow the image directory, and maybe set up a separate CDN subdomain for content that only contains the JS and CSS? Have you seen this problem and beat it? (Of course the next thing is Roger might look at google results and start crawling them too, LOL) P.S. The reason I am not asking this question in the google forums is that others have asked this question many times and nobody at google has bothered to answer, over the past 5 months, and nobody who did try, gave an answer that was remotely useful. So I'm not really hopeful of anyone here having a solution either, but I expect this is my best bet because you guys are always willing to try.
