What's the best way to transplant a blogger blog to another domain?
-
So I have this client who's got a killer blogger blog—tons of inbound links, great content, etc. He wants to move it onto his new website. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there isn't a single way to 301 the darn thing. I can do meta refresh and/or JavaScript redirects, but those won't transfer link juice, right? Is there a best practice here? I've considered truncating each post and adding a followed "continue reading…" link, which would of course link to the full post on the client's new site. It would take a while and I'm wondering if it would be worth it, and/or if there are any better ideas out there. Sock it to me.

Thanks for the feedback! And definitely let us know if you do the cross-domain canonical.

So I had JS 302s and meta refreshes up for a long time, and eventually some of the links to the old site are now showing up in my Google Webmaster Tools dash for the new site. Just thought anyone else with the same question would like to know. I am going to look more into the cross-domain rel canonical thing too.

After seeing the Whiteboard Friday about cross-domain canonical, I got to thinking about how do this with Blogger. Not being too familiar with Blogger templates, or how much control you really get, I started Googling around. I found this:
Basically, put a script into your Blogger template, with a link rel canonical for each page you want to redirect.
It looks good to me, but I haven't tested it so I can't be sure.

Thanks. Do you know if it would make more sense to link from every post to its corresponding post? I would love for someone way into PageRank sculpting to comment or at least point out a good methodology for determining the answer somewhat mathematically!

There is no way to do this and maintain link juice, I looked into it for a long time a few months back. All you can do is create an export file of your posts and import it into your new software. I could find no way to redirect my blogspot site that would pass the link juice.
My final solution was simply to delete the content and simply have one big link and only one link that simply said "Click here for our new website on [keyword.]"
With just one link at least you are still passing some link juice, its the only way I could find to do it.

Weird problems with google's rich snippet markup
Once upon a time, our site was ranking well and had all the markups showing up in the results. We than lost some of our rankings due to dropped links and not so well kept maintenance. Now, we are gaining up the rankings again, but the markups don't show up in the organic search results. When we Google site:oursite.com, the markups show up, but not in the organic search. There are no manual actions against our site. any idea why this would happen?

Best & easiest way to 301 redirect on IIS
Hi all, What is the best and easiest way to 301 redirect URLs on IIS server? I got access to the FTP and WordPress back office, but no access to the server admin. Is there an easy way to create 301 redirect without having to always annoy the tech in charge of the server? Thanks!

Sub-domain or sub-folder for a blog?
Traditional thinking suggests sub-domains are treated as separate sites and so don't pass on link juice, but I've heard mixed opinions. I'm very much a believer in sub-folders but I'm interested to hear some other opinions. Thoughts?

Google doesn't rank the best page of our content for keywords. How to fix that?
Hello, We have a strange issue, which I think is due to legacy. Generally, we are a job board for students in France: http://jobetudiant.net (jobetudiant == studentjob in french) We rank quite well (2nd or 3rd) on "Job etudiant <city>", with the right page (the one that lists all job offers in that city). So this is great.</city> Now, for some reason, Google systematically puts another of our pages in front of that: the page that lists the jobs offers in the 'region' of that city. For example, check this page. the first link is a competitor, the 3rd is the "right" link (the job offers in annecy), but the 2nd link is the list of jobs in Haute Savoie (which is the 'departement'- equiv. to county) in which Annecy is... that's annoying. Is there a way to indicate Google that the 3rd page makes more sense for this search? Thanks

Whats the best way to stop search results from being indexed?
I Have a Wordpress Site, and just realized that the search results are being indexed on Google creating duplicate content. Whats the best way for me to stop these search result pages from being indexed without stopping the regulars and important pages and posts from being indexed as well? **The typical search query looks like this: ** http://xxx.com/?s=Milnerton&search=search&srch_type AND this also includes results that are linked to the "view more" such as:
