My average visit duration is UP by 110% from 2 minutes to 4 minutes... and my visits (rankings) are down by 6 %.... I would have thought to see more positive ranking affects from that..
-
Latttteee last night I asked this question
Just like the question says, I would have thought that Google would reward a site with more traffic that clearly has a growing level of user engagement.
I can't imagine that there are other sites in my niche that are having a longer rate of user engagement...
Well, since I can't guarentee that, let's not debate what we don't know..
But shouldn't SOME benefits be seen for a 110% increase?
I mean shit, if I could replicate those results with sales, I would really be able to afford higher rankings...
Maybe that's how they feel?
If I get longer duration, I should get more sales, which means I should be able to afford to pay a professional more to get me to rank higher....?
A nice guy Marcus Miller(http://www.seomoz.org/users/profile/78416) answered by saying
Hey Tyler
Google analytics data is not used in anyway in the search ranking algorithm. It's a great thing that your user engagement is up, but it will not benefit you with a better rank on the back of that.
That said, if people are enjoying your site more, it should be easier to generate more links and sharing to get more traffic and hopefully boost your standing in search.
This is worth a watch:

Hope this helps.
Marcus
I was still a little unsure though, so I said
Solid answer man, I really appriciate the youtube link too, gotta love when an answer is chizzled in stone.
I was thinking though..
Google does track data for bouncing back to search for similar queries, and some types of time on site, etc, right?
Do you, or does anyone else know the specifics about the data that Google tracks, in relation to how a user interacts with your site?
-
It did actually. My pages that had the word specifications on them were getting a lot of niche specific traffic for
"(make / model) specifications"
even though we sell
"(make / model) parts."
That little traffic cloud is dwindling, I have considered doing something to at least help those searchers find what they need, since they are likely having an issue finding it.
Well, regardless, it certainly seems like some sort of brand introduction opportunity could be in order, considering we sell parts for those (make / model)s
EGOL you hit the nail on the head there. Those numbers were affecting my site average pretty significantly.
The "specifications" related traffic has dropped -24.7.% average over the last 2 months
While "part(s)" related keywords risen +19.6% over that same two months.
Looks like Google might be paying even more attention to time on site than I thought after all... o_0... ?
-
Right... or... did your traffic change? Traffic quality is strongly related to time-on-site.
-
Unfortunately no one but a Google Engineer does.
Did your site receive a makeover? Often times, after a site change you would see a fluctuation (outside the norm) in time on site (a higher time on site could also indicate a user could not find what they are looking for).

Is my client's site penalized and if not, why are other lesser quality sites ranking with lower metrics than my client's?
Hello, I'm trying to explain to a client, as to why certain websites that appear in the top 50 listings for a keyword are there when they don't have very good backlink profiles, and for this keyword, seems you need a high PA above 20 or DA above 25, just to page for page 2 - 3. Running a full SERPs report, I have seen that backlinks to the page that's ranking seems to be as high of a factor as PA, followed by DA and overall backlink profile. Having a high score in one of these 4 areas seems to increase your ranking. However, going into page 3 and beyond, seems that things kinda take a weird turn. After comparing the client's site to those ranking on page 2 I could see that all of them had better PA and more links to the page ranking for that keyword, so page 2 I understand why we don't rank on yet. However, looking at page 3, I see that the client's site in question has better PA, DA, links to page and overall links to domain. Which leaves me to think we have a penalty that's keeping us ranking 50 or beyond. Since our metrics across the boards for what MOZ is showing as ranking factors. The more odd issue is that looking at the line graph, shows right at the time we implemented sitewide https our ranking for this one keyword dropped, while rankings for our other keywords increased. Am I to assume it's a keyword density penalty? What penalties are there with a outcome of ranking limits?

Out of Stock page ranking
When a competitive site is consistently ranking for a product that is never in stock, or in some cases, has been discontinued for several years and will never again be in stock, is there a way to communicate that information to Google?

How can this website be ranking so well?!
This website: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/domains?site=www.webuycarsyourway.com.au is ranking on page one for about 75% of a list of 300 car related keywords. They don't appear to have done any link building, no social media, appeared out of nowhere in April 2012 and SEMRush reports between 5,000 and 10,000 visitors per month. The only thing I can see is they have a landing page for every keyword with the keyword in the URL. But surely that can't be the only reason they're ranking well ? ?

How to find a neutral rank for a webpage a keyword term?
Hi!
Competitive Research | | lilactree
I'm sure this has been answered here already - I'm just not searching for the right words. I'm trying to find the ranking for a website for specific terms. Being that the search engine remembers what I search (I try to log out, privately browse, etc), everything matters and impacts my search. I'm trying to see what a website ranks for a person who has never visited that website before, or doesn't have other factors influencing the result. I tried the keyword research tool, and while that seems to deliver what I'm after, it only gives 1-10. Even though these are the coveted positions 😉 I'd like to know if a website isn't ranking there, and is further down. We track the progress made after work is done to a page, to see if it moves up, and what other tweaks we need to make to improve the rankings and attract clicks. Thanks!0 -
How is this page ranking so high?
I have been using OSE, and I have come across a few sites that rank within the top 5 for VERY competitive keywords and seem to have NO inbound links to the page. Am I overlooking something? For example, Keyword: floor lamps Page: www.lampsplus.com/products/floor-lamps/
