Why does Rel Canonical show up as a notice?
-
In the crawl diagnostics screen "Rel Canonical" shows up as a notice for every page that has a rel="canonical" meta tag in it. Why is this the case?
Shouldn't every page have a canonical tag on it to show the absolute URL to the content? Wouldn't a better notice be to display pages that do not have a canonical tag instead?
I could be wrong but that would make more sense to me. (In fact.. let's be honest here.. I probably am wrong.. but I'd like someone to explain it if they could.)
Thanks

The ability to hide various notices and warnings is something a lot of our users have requested - we're working on it!
-
It would also be nice to have an optIon to turn off the notices for pages that are using the canonical tag. This is helpful for those of us that try to use the crawl diagnostics page as another tool to find potential on page problems. I would rather hide the fact that a page has a canonical tag and show me the ones that don't. That allows me to have a fairly clear picture of things that need to be fixed on the site.

Irving is correct - we add it as a notice because it's a good thing to keep track of, and because some people do incorrectly implement this tag, which causes problems. I'll pass your suggestion for also tracking non-canonical pages on to our Product team. Thanks!

I have seen so many people use the canonical tag incorrectly, that it can certainly help troubleshoot site issues by being able to download a list of canonical tags. I do agree on your premise though and untagged pages can be equally problematic and the crawler should allow us to see which pages are not tagged.

Unsolved Moz Pro crawl signaling missing canonical which are not?
Hi,
Moz Pro | | rolandvintners
I'm trying MozPro considering using it.
One of the tool which is appealing is the crawl and insights.
After quick use, I really question many of the alerts, for instance, I got a "missing canonical tag" on this url: https://vintners.co/wine/grawu_gto#2020 but when I check my markup, there's clearly a canonical tag: <link rel="canonical" href="https://vintners.co/wine/grawu_gto"> Anybody can explain?
I asked Moz Pro staff when being onboarded but didn't get an answer...
Honestly, I'm questioning the value of these crawls, or may be I miss something?0 -
Why does a word show as 'Google en-US Mobile Friendly' = FALSE when it also shows that it ranks 3 on mobile?
I pulled a recent report for all words I'm tracking locally and it states that a specific term ranks #4 on desktop and #3 on mobile. But in separate columns, specifically "Google en-US Mobile Friendly" that same terms shows as 'FALSE'. Any idea what this means? Thanks!

Site Explorer shows links as followable but they have nofollow tags
Hello, I am looking at site explorer and sites linking to my site moneyfact.co.uk. I've got thousands of links showing as 'followable' but when i check them they have rel="nofollow" tags. e.g: http://www.dianomioffers.co.uk/partner/moneyfacts.co.uk/brochures.epl?partner=93&partner_id=93&partner_variant_id=33 Why would they show as followable when the links are nofollowed? Thanks Steve

Canonical link on canonical url
This might seem a bit of an odd one, but we seem to be going around in circles on this when using the on page optimizer tool. We have an ecommerce site (magento) which by default is putting a canonical link in the header on every product page. For example; www.example.com/product1.html has the But when we run the on page optimiser tool, we're losing points on the critical section for not having canonical set correctly. If we remove the tag, we get the tick and the a grade, but then further down the report we lose a tick for not using canonical links. What are we missing here?

Some questions on Canonical tag AND 301 redirect
Hi everyone, I'm new here - always loved SEOMoz and glad to be part of the Pro community now. I have 2 questions regarding the Canonical URL tag. Some background info: We used to run an OsCommerce store, and recently migrated to Magento. In doing so, we right away created 301 redirects of the old category pages (OsCommerce) to the new category pages (Magento) via the Magento admin. Example: www.example.com/old-widget-category.html
Moz Pro | | yacpro13
301 redicrected to
www.example.com/new-widget-category.html In Magento admin, we have enabled the Canonical tag for all product and category pages. Here's how Magento sets up the Canonical tag: The URL of interest which we want to rank is:
www.example.com/new-widget-category.html However Magento sets up the canonical tag on this page to point to:
www.example.com/old-widget-category.html When using the SEOMoz On Page Report Card, it pick this up as an error because the Canonical tag is pointing to a different URL. However, if we dig a little deeper, we see that the URL being pointed to
www.example.com/old-widget-category.html
has a 301 redirect to
www.example.com/new-widget-category.html
which is the URL we wan to rank. So because we set up a 301 redirect of the old-page to the new-page, on the new-page the canonical tag points to the old-page. Question 1)
What are you opinions on this? Do you think this method of setting up the Canonical tag is acceptable? Second question... We use pagination for category pages, so if we have 50 products in one category, we would have 5 pages of 10 products. The URL's would be: www.example.com/new-widget-category.html (which is the SAME as ?p=1)
www.example.com/new-widget-category.html?p=1
www.example.com/new-widget-category.html?p=2
www.example.com/new-widget-category.html?p=3
www.example.com/new-widget-category.html?p=4
www.example.com/new-widget-category.html?p=5 Now ALL the URLs above have the canonical tag set as:
<link rel="canonical" href="http://www.example.com/new-widget-category" /> However, the content of each page (page 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) is different because different products are displayed. So far most what I read regarding the Canonical tag is that it is used for pages that have the same content but different URLs. I would hope that Google would combine the content of all 5 pages and view the result as a single URL www.example.com/new-widget-category Question 2) Is using the canonical tag appropriate in the case described above? Thanks !0 -

Www. part of url not showing on google search results.
When typing in fun translator into google UK, my website www.funtranslator.com is the 18th result on the 2nd page, however, there is an issue, it only shows funtranslator.com, without the www part, which is not what I want because the whole address to show up, because my campaign on seomoz pro and webmaster tools account is www.funtranslator.com not funtranslator.com. How can I resolve this. For not, I have a redirect that goes from funtranslator to www.funtranslator.com I want to know how to get the full www.url into the results instead of just url.com without the www part of the url. Also, will this affect my stats gathered in my campaign on my seomoz pro account?
