What's with the new Q&A set up?

In the old Q&A set up your response was automatically given a thumbs up by you so that you got a mozpoint for every response you gave. Now you have to manually thumb up your responses. Why was this change made? Can we get it back to the way it was?

SEO Moz only gives out 20 Moz points per month for responding for asking or answering questions or leaving replies. After that I you can still thumbs up your own question, response, etc.

That makes a lot of sense - I had been wondering how many people got "answers" that really didn't help as much as another might have had someone not skipped it because it had "appeared" to have already been answered...

Hmm that's actually a bug I believe... I don't think you should be able to thumb yourself up at all. I'll need to check on it, but I think you shouldn't be able to.

Hey Alan, that isn't a bug. We're asking people to mark questions as "answered" and until they are, they say unanswered. Even though someone has left a response, the question may still not be answered.

Hey guys, I'm just about to publish a blog post that talks all about a bunch of new changes. The focus is for people to earn points for not only participating but adding value as well. Sadly we've had people who are only focused on gaming the system and creating silly questions or adding spammy answers just to gain points. So we've taken quite a few measures to give people MORE points for valuable answers/questions and less points for non-valuable ones. The post is going up in the next 20 minutes or so that has quite a bit more information.

There's bugs I think. Questions still showing as unanswered even after responses, points not being credited right away after answering (at least that's been my case since last night. So I reported it over at the help desk.

I noticed that too. Kinda sucks. SEOmoz doesnt want to comp too many memberships i guess. Kinda lame, good thing SEOmoz is awesome, willing to overlook it.
BTW it's funny that you noticed that, yet neglected to thumbs up your own post on a question about the very subject.

Moz can't see my link from an external site
Hi, I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this. I've had a followed link created from http://www.dubaisharks.com/ pointing to my website - http://www.yallarugby.com but in the reports it doesn't show that there is a link coming fro this website. The link has been active for a few months now, but still no record of it. Any ideas?

'Duplicate Page Content' for dissimilar pages
I'm using Moz's Crawl Diagnostics to try and clean up some SEO priorities for our website (http://www.craftcompany.co.uk) HOWEVER, virtually all of the pages that are being categorised as duplicate content are not the same, or indeed similar. For instance, these three pages have been deemed duplicated pages; http://www.craftcompany.co.uk/pme-rose-leaf-veined-plunger.html http://www.craftcompany.co.uk/double-faced-satin-ribbon-black-25mm-wide.html http://www.craftcompany.co.uk/double-faced-satin-maroon-10mm-wide-25mt.html Can anyone give me an insight into why this is? How to set up Rel=canonical in Joomla based sites
I've built a few sites using joomla (please don't tell me I should be using wordpress!!) and wondered how I can add the rel-canonical to these pages. I'm assuming it would come as a plugin or module but can't seem to find anything that works right for me. Anyone any ideas? Thanks in advance, Gordon

What's the best way for SEO newbie to analyze & fix a site after being hit by Panda?
Hi, I have a prospective client who was in the top 3 on Google for two of their primary keywords. They fell way back in the rankings immediately after Panda was rolled out on September 27, 2012. Two weeks ago, they were at position #118 for one keyword. After looking for them in Rank Checker today, they cannot be found in Google at all. Here's my question. Because of the "bad links" (some pointing to Porno sites)... what's the possibility that this situation cannot be fixed? I don't know... maybe I'm asking an irrelevant question. I'm attempting to assess the situation so I can go back and present my findings to the prospective client. I'm committed to understanding what's going on with their website so I can assess the situation properly. Fixing their problem starts with a correct assessment. They have a ranking problem, and I know I can fix that... IF all their site needs is white hat <acronym title="Search Engine Optimization">SEO</acronym>. What I DON'T want is... to sell them <acronym title="Search Engine Optimization">SEO</acronym> services, only to find out in 3-6 months... I made an incorrect diagnosis of the problem, and therefore sold them the wrong solution. I know I can close the sale if I can show them with reasonable substantiation that the damage is not beyond repair. I'm familiar with the basics of <acronym title="Search Engine Optimization">SEO</acronym>, but I'm unfamiliar with how "bad linking" might effect the long-term commitment to optimizing. They're wondering if they should start over on another website. I was attempting to do an assessment to better understand if my typical approach on this site would be sufficient. Also... I wanted to get an assessment/report to show them something to substantiate my conclusion(s) about their website. If Open Site Explorer is sufficient to do the link analysis... great. At least I know I'm working with the right tool. All I have to do is learn how to use the tool quickly. At this point... I'm not sure which tool would be helpful. So... can you speak to the following 2 questions: 1.) How do you know when ranking problem is beyond fixing? 2.) What software/tool is ideal for doing some link analysis in order to assess the problem, and prescribe a solution? Thanks so much! Ramon

Page Rank Report says #6 in Google but I can't find the page anywhere
So SEOMoz says that I've consistently ranked #6 for a certain keyword. But when I search I'm no where to be found. I've done regular searches, incognito and some non-seomoz reports and all come up with nothing in Google. I noticed it a week or two ago, but didn't think it would continue. This is no bueno. I wouldn't be surprised if I got penalized (luckily my homepage relatively well for similar keywords), an old seo consultant used very spammy tactics. I recently removed them, but not before I started to notice that I fell off the map. Why would SEOMoz not recognize this, and continue to say I'm ranking well? Urgent: Campaign set up 'Select Competitors' errors
Hi. Im setting up my first campaign and Im having issues with step 3: 'Select your competitors to track'. I only want to track 1 competitor: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryan_Murphy_(writer) When I enter this and the competitor name into the form provided and click 'continue to next step' it throws an error at me: Darn, there are errors in your form! Site is penalized yet Google WTC and SEOMOZ says it's ok!
My first question on this community.. A high traffic site of mine has been severely hit for over two months. I took a look at GWTC and noticed a lot of suggestions on the HTML suggestions tab, where I believed that one or a combination of these errors/notices might been causing the penalty. At the moment of typing GWTC shows no HTML suggestions and minor meaningless crawl errors. Checking on SEOMOZ reported issues, I see zero errors except for a high number of duplicate page titles resulting from tag pages being accessible in the same tag title in paginations (tag.html?page=x) which can be fixed easily by using rel=canonical but I just know it can't cause such penalty. For reported warnings, site has a decent amount of title element being too long and missing meta tag description tags. I have been very active in the past with 301 inner pages of the site to make pages URLs as unique as possible and results were great, but that was long time ago before taking the hit. The penalty the site suffers from is zero rankings for newly added contents and old contents as well. It has also lost all rankings for its money terms. Site is not banned and still ranking top for its name which is a good thing. I am not sure where else I should be looking and will appreciate any good advices. Thanks!
