Re-branding with Google Analytics
-
GM Mozzers,
I apologize in advance if my description of this issue is confusing, but I'm doing my best here.
Anyway, due to legal reasons, one of the publications I manage was forced to change their name. We set-up a 301 redirect from the previous domain and have also set-up an analytics profile for the new domain, however, as it stands, visits to the old domain outnumber those to the new domain 12:1.
Is there anyway to set-up my analytics profile to the new URL so that this traffic is being attributed to the new domain and the new site, since, after all, it is a redirect.
I hope that I explained this sufficiently. Any and all insight will be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

You can either 1) update current analytics profile with new url and use the compare feature in analytics or 2) export all of the old data in excel for data comparison and create a new analytics profile.
The 301 concept remains the same in both scenarios.

Travis,
Would this assist me with the redirect issue. How would I be able to assimilate all of the traffic that's currently redirecting from the old domain onto the new domain?
Likewise, am I making sense here?
-
You can export all your data to csv/google docs? Then just run comparisons through excel or however you see fit w/ that data.

Oleg,
Well, here's the problem:
We want to keep the old profile (the URL we are redirecting from) so that if needed, we can compare current/future numbers against previous years.
So are you saying that it would be better for me to update the 'old' analytics profile and simply update the information in the 'profile settings', i.e. the new URL?
Is there a way I can set it up so that we can keep the old account and 'deactivate it', for lack of a better word, so we can archive all of that old data and again, be able to compare it to the new data.
Likewise, is there anyway to set it up so that the domain we're redirecting from can somehow be included in the new profile.
-
If you properly set up a 301 redirect, the old site shouldn't be sending any tracking information as the page's content shouldn't be loading.
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
Rewriterule ^(.*)$ http://www.newdomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]Make sure you change the URL inside Google Analytics settings as well (Load account > Admin > select profile > Profile settings)

Unsolved Google Analytics (GA4) recommendations for SEO analysis?
Guides on Moz and elsewhere mostly refer to Google Analytics' Universal Analytics (UA). However, UA is being replaced with GA4, and the interface, options, and reporting are very different. Can you recommend a clear, thorough, and effective walkthrough of how to set up useful SEO reports in GA4? Is there a simple tool you recommend that will help connect historical data from UA to GA4 when GA4 is the only option available? If there's no simple tool, what values do you recommend retaining from UA for effective historical reporting? How would you use them? At minimum for reporting, I'd want to show month-to-month changes and year-to-year changes (in percentages and in real numbers) for the following: all site visits all organic visits organic visits as a percentage of all site visits organic visits that led to a specific goal completion organic visits that led to any goal completion Thanks in advance for your help!

Google Analytics - Tracking multiple thankyou pages?
Hi Guys, I want to track email opt-ins for multiple thank you pages. The setup is as follows: http://image.prntscr.com/image/57632e05a15f42fda0b8ffec2d176460.png I have not yet built the thank you pages, so i was wondering what the URL should be to make it easy to track them in GA? I'm thinking: domain.com/thankyou-page/page1 Then using regular expression in GA to track /thankyou-page/ Would this be a good way to go about it? Cheers. f6c7r0

Tracking PDF Downloads in Google Analytics
Hi, I work on a site that allows users to download whitepapers after filling out a form. Once they do this they are redirected to a URL which is the PDF. We use Wordpress and these documents were uploaded to the media center. I've tried researching how to track these downloads in GA, since the code is not present on these pages, but have read a few different answers. Anyone have firsthand experience? Thanks!

Any updates regarding 'not provided' organic keyword referrals in Google Analytics?
I know that the encrypted searches done by people logged into their Google accounts is causing the error, is there any workaround or any update from Google as to IF they will give us our keyword data back? I'm currently losing data on about 20% of my daily searches . . .

Individual or Separate Google Analytics Accounts for Each Country Location?
We have 3 websites. USA, Germany and UK. Currently our analytics account is set up with 1 account with each domain as a Profile. I am wondering if I would see more accurate results if I have them set up individually, under the same Google account, but different Analytic accounts. The reason I wonder is because I noticed when I was going through setting this up, it asked for each Country Time Zone for each domain. I was not sure if this was for me to see the times, or if this was to provide more accurate data. Maybe this is just a personal preference topic?
