How can i locate the links on my site that are causing 404 errors?

In the 404 error report, there is no way to find what page on my site has the broken link.. how can i find them???

help.

Actually, if you download the report to a CSV you'll see the referring URLs that 404.

I personally like to use Screaming Frog. It is very intuitive to use and works really well.

To find the broken links in Screaming Frog:

1. Run crawl

2. Select 'Response Codes' tab

3. Select Filter 'Client Error (4xx)'

4. To see which pages are linking to the 404 pages, go to the bottom and select 'In Links'

Matt, You might want to use a spider/crawling tool on your website and find the broken links.* Find broken links on your site with Xenu's Link Sleuth* Screaming Frog SEO Spider

Both of these tools will be able to crawl your website and find any 404's and the origin/linking pages. I hope this helps.

Use Xenu or Screaming Frog to find the pages that have broken links on your website. Just download and run and the end, it'll show you where they are located.

18 404 errors on pages that are actually fine.

Hi, I just used the compain tool to look for errors on my site and it appears that seomoz crawler finds 18 404 errors on pages that are fine in my good. I do proceed with a URL rewritting on those pages, but navigation is fine. Some of the pages are: http://cassplumbingtampabay.com/about-us http://cassplumbingtampabay.com/commercial-services http://cassplumbingtampabay.com/drain-cleaning-repair ... Does anybody know what's going on?

I can't find any inbound links that I know I have on open site, ahref or majestic. Does anyone know why?

Since the linkscape update before Christmas I have built a couple of links to fairly high quality sites. I can't find them on open site though or the other tools I mentioned. I'm a bit concerned there is an issue with my site. Does anyone have any idea why? I'm stumped. My site: www.emporiumofmanliness.co.uk

Canonical link on canonical url

This might seem a bit of an odd one, but we seem to be going around in circles on this when using the on page optimizer tool. We have an ecommerce site (magento) which by default is putting a canonical link in the header on every product page. For example; www.example.com/product1.html has the But when we run the on page optimiser tool, we're losing points on the critical section for not having canonical set correctly. If we remove the tag, we get the tick and the a grade, but then further down the report we lose a tick for not using canonical links. What are we missing here?

No Local Directory links in Open Site Explorer?

Hi there, I just signed up for seomoz pro today and have been playing around in OSE looking at a number of local business websites that I manage SEO for. For all of them, I have put an endless amount of effort ensuring they have good quality, accurate business listings in all the local directories like yelp, yellowpages, hotfrog, tripadvisor, etc. For most of them, I did this months or even up to a year ago. However, I don't see a single link reported in OSE that is a result of my efforts here. Does OSE not report links from local business directories, or should I be concerned that I'm somehow not optimizing properly, or are these types of links of such little value that they don't get picked up, something else? Hello MOzzers! Happy sunday 🙂 I need some help, I have 3 diff link builders , they are building links for me individually , all 3 have diff keywords. What I need help with is some way to quickly check the reports they send me ( list of links they have built). Is there any software that I can copy paste the links in and then the software checks allthe links? Ir is there any way to do this quickly. I cant tell you how much I appreciate this help! Links from External Sites not Showing on OpenSite or Google Webmaster Tools

Hi, I asked this in another post, but didn't get a solid answer. For several websites I manage, I have access to their Google Webmaster Tools. When I put the site through there, or the link:// or SEOMoz's OpenSite link reporter, I get not even a fraction of the links that I know are pointing to the websites in question. Some of these links are from home pages or side columns, and some are from articles keep within a website, like at Inc.com. I wondered if the links in question were not themselves being indexed, but if I do a very specific search, I can pull them up in the search results. Is it just common knowledge that these link tools are not accurate? And to assume that somehow, search engines really do see all of the inbound links, even if our reporting tools don't. Thanks in advance!

Will Open Site Explorer ever show number of links over time?

OSE is an amazing tool, but do you guys at SEOmoz have any plans to develop it so we can track numbers of links over time. I need to demonstrate to clients how the link building is going, and this would be a great quick report to see how many links you found on a given day, month, year, etc. A bit like magesticSEO backlink history graph, but better 🙂
