Drop In Rankings / Traffic... Can you find any technical issues with my site?
-
I haven't spammed the engines, if anything I haven't done enough link building. So let me start here:
I split my old domain www.STbands.com into two separate domains - www.Suddora.com and www.CustomOnIt.com . The main site now goes to Custom On It and each page directly 301 as it was relevant. I knew there was going to be a little blow back...
The first month went fairly well but last week we noticed a dip in organic search traffic and sure enough some of our main keywords are now suffering.
I am wondering if this is because we haven't been building enough links to the new domains or if our new eCommerce CMS (magento enterprise) has technical SEO issues that is giving Google trouble. Nothing on GWT looks terribly wrong, should i be searching for something specific?
Anything helps at this point, we are in dire need of some direction on what could be wrong. Any suggestions?

Let me just call this... "logical speculation"....
If you chop a domain's content in half and place it on two different websites, you have also just chopped all of the links, likes, mentions, etc in half.
If you do that you should expect every ranking everywhere to drop - because you now have less domain authority - you cut it in half.
-
I would do a few things in addition to what you have done already (I think the results you are seeing right now really also depend on when you did the switch):
- Introduce a robots.txt and hint it with a Sitemap. If you have not manually submitted a site-map, do this as soon as possible. This will push Google to re-crawl your content.
- Fix your PageSpeed - you are scoring 58/100 which is really bad - see here: http://www.webpagetest.org/result/121004_PY_42T/
- Although you have RichSnippet product information on your site, it looks wrong - i.e. http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.customonit.com%2Fcustom-slap-bands-silicone-bracelet-wristband.html&html=
I would try and fix the above - those are all simple and quick technical fixes. The Sitemap submission is probably the most important aspect and you should monitor the GWMT health and index ratio as well as the crawl rate.
I would then also compare the traffic on your new domains with your old domains. I would look out for change in traffic patterns and change in search terms. Your drop might be related to different copy on the new site.
I personally do find your site, categories and product pages a bit confusing (perhaps I am not your target-market), but it does not quite feel like an eCommerce site, but others might think differently. I am saying this in regards to UI/UX and not onpage SEO.

Nakul,
Good point on the brand building the fact is all you need both to move-up in rank right now. I would concentrate on building relevant links from the most relevant authoritative sites you can. I would also focus on adding content strongly recommend that you have a blog to your websites. This will give you an opportunity to add content, a daily basis hopefully at least 4 times a week and get to much-needed attention from Google. I feel the matter what side is almost every site can benefit from a blog or a newsfeed whatever they want to call it basically new content that is relevant and well written. You may want to look into the entire structure of your site I'm not telling you to go nuts but really analyze it looks for small problems fix them then if you want some help with the writing I'd recommend a Word press plug-in that ALSO has a great web interface where you can copy and paste your content prior to posting in your blog or adding pages. It will then using your URL and give you suggestions based on different metrics it is a fantastic piece of software. FYI if you buy a theme I paid roughly 70% less than the advertised price because I purchased one WordPress theme not saying this is going to happen for you however I do know that every time I've put a studio press him up it at least gives me 50% off as a offer software is http://scribecontent.com/
please let me know if I can be of any more help to.
Sincerely,
Thomas

I would bet you are unfortunately suffering from the latest update in Google's algorithm. Approximately what time last week to this happen? How do you been going about building links can you going to a little but more detail about your methods? Here are your organic standings as of right now for each site. If you are to truly 301 redirect their website it should be to only one other site. You may be getting some blowback by 301 redirecting your site to two websites and not the one site is supposed to be redirecting to as you know it is a permanent redirect meaning the site no longer is here please look at the site not sites. is there a site you prefer over the other? Would strongly recommend linking the 301 redirect only one of those sites. Also I will take your link profile and have a look at it using a few different software's including my favorite SEOmoz however I will get more than one opinion. Have you done this yet? Have you looked for spam malware a bad links pointing to your site?

Hey Paul. Good to see you here at SEOMoz.
Are you see drop in rankings for your primary head keywords or long tail keywords or both ?
You definitely do need to work on the link building as a continous process. Think of it more as Brand Building.
I also don't see any structural issues with either of your website that would cause any major indexing issues.

Endless Scrolling and prev/next
Hi, We have a new website on https://www.neakriti.gr We have asked for endless scrolling between our articles, so when we get at the end of one article, the next loads. Looking at the produced html code I saw the articles contain and to other articles. When I asked the development team why this happens, I got a reply that its needed for the endless scroll of the articles. But to my understanding "prev" and "next" is only used on pagination cases, and endless scroll between articles has nothing to do pagination. Here is an example article

Can anyone please let me know if the declaration of "prev" and "next" articles should stay or if I should ask the development team to remove it? Thanks0 -
New Product. New Brand. Gmail/Authorship Questions. Need Advice.
I'm in the process of developing a new product and brand name and would like to create all the social media accounts (FB, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc), including G+ and want it to have it's own Gmail ID like ABCXYZ@gmail.com, so I can set up all accounts using this Gmail ID and if needed down the road, have someone else help manage the accounts so they have that login and my my main Gmail login. My question is, does Google frown upon setting up new Gmail IDs under the same name "Patrick McCoy" as I have my name tied to my personal Gmail account and my company's Gmail account "whiteboardcreations@gmail" both with G+ pages and URLs of /+PatrickMcCoy1 and /+PatrickMcCoy2 respectively. I'd like to have Authorship associated with the new product website and also want the new product to have it's own G+ Business Page to post updates, info, etc., which is why I'm getting a little confused on how I'd do it the right way, What would you do or does it really matter... can my new Gmail account of ABCXYZ@gmail just be /+PatrickMcCoy3 which is associated to my new product/brand name? Thank you and look forward to the feedback!

What is the best way to market/raise awareness about new clothing products?
We are an Outdoor Clothing Company that designs our own range. We primarily sell through Retailers & distribution networks, but around 2 years ago went online. We update our collections twice a year, and we really struggle to get attention and awareness of our new designs. Can anyone recommend the best practice for getting newly launched products successfully "marketed"?

Moving Blog from www.topic.domain.com to www.domain.com/blog
Hi Fellow Mozzers, Just started off here on seomoz.org and am super happy to have joined the community! I've recently started a new job as web optimization manager for an education company. There is a lot to do and one of my first tasks is to figure a better strategy for our current blog. I've convinced our management to move our blog from topic.domain.com to domain.com/blog. My research has shown that this is a better strategy so that our blog can receive the DA of our root domain, get more people to click through our site, and even receive more natural searches (PLEASE, someone correct me if I'm wrong on this). Anyway, our blog is currently hosted as a Wordpress blog and we're wondering if it's more worthwhile to build a blog platform ourselves or continue using Wordpress. I am not a technical guy and don't know the backend stuff to make it happen, but my concern is primarily for the optimum search capacity. Also, our bloggers frequently put links to different portions of our website - does this hold any negative SEO value in terms of too much internal linking? I personally wouldn't assume so, but then again I could be wrong. Finally, we also track our main website using Google Analytics- currently, the only tracking we have installed on our blogs is the default provided by Wordpress (yes yes I know, but that's why i'm here -- to fix these weaknesses). I'm assuming we will be able to better track using GA when the switch is made. So, I guess my questions are: (1) Is my research correct in that it's better to have our blog hosted as domain.com/blog over topic.domain.com (2) Are there any best practices in making this switch and/or any negative implications with continuing to use Wordpress or should we build our own platform (we have the internal resources to do so, but would prefer to take the easiest and best route in terms of SEO and community building). (3) Will it still be just as easy to track using GA. Thank you!! Pedram

Page 1 Rankings, but not increase in traffic, contact form requests or calls
I am very frustrated. I have achieved page one rankings on Google, Bing and Yahoo for highly relevant keywords and phrases. The keywords I am ranking on page one for are the same ones competitors are targeting and working well for them. I am interested in any feedback as to what could possibly be the cause for not receiving much traffic? I mean I am getting page 1, everyone I talk to says the sites are beautiful....Very confused. Now in the various keyword tools the do show that the various keywords receive anywhere from 25-250 searches per month, but those tools i find highly innacurate when performing a local campaign...oh yeah, these are all local campaigns i am talking about. Do I need to pursue paid marketing, PPC, or something. I always thought organic rankings were the way to go. Also, unfortunatly i am not able to divulge the URLs or concern due to client confidentiality issues. Thank you very much in advance for any insight:) I will send the URL's privately to anyone that is willing to take a look at things

Is duplicating video across several sites a bad thing?
Hi, We have a fairly successful YouTube Channel where we create unique and helpful videos that are related to our core business activity. When we create these videos would you consider it a bad thing to not only post them on YouTube but also a couple of the smaller sites such as Metacafe and Dailymotion? Sending to multiple sites would possibly achieve more total views but would this kind of duplication potentially be harmful to the overall success of the video and have a knock on effect when it comes to how it ranks in Google? Thanks for your help.

How to increase traffic to forum?
Hi all. I help run the forum at www.bearsfansonline.com and really want to see if there any ways to increase traffic. We started with a core group of posters in 2009 and since then have only added one active user. I'm worried if we don't bring in some fresh faces, my core users will start to leave. That being said, does anyone have ideas how to go about doing this? We've tried holding contests but they haven't resulted in any new sign-ups. Don't really know what else we can do. I'd greatly appreciate any tips, suggestions, etc. Thanks in advance.

How to find bloggers and columnists
Hi But stuck on growing the community aspect of a fashion website i am developing. The site already has a comprehensive shop with 200,000 products in, a large article and video section in but it is lacking a little in fresh, up to date content. The long term plan is to create a large forum and have a good level of interaction there but that will take a while as the site grows. To get the site growing I want to bring in columnist and bloggers to write about what they are liking in fashion, which famous people are wearing what and so forth. The trouble is I am having issues finding people. There are tons of people running their own wordpress sub domains with similar sites but not sure where I would find these kind of people. I would be looking to reward them with their labour by either paying per post or allowing them to put adsense etc on their pages. Anyone else grown a community from the start, where did you find bloggers etc? thanks. Carl
