I just wanted to see what your opinions were on this. Does being active on social media help with your SEO efforts. I'm not talking about having a link to your website on your Facebook page, but in general commenting on news stories and having conversations. Would Google prefer you over a competitor if you were more active on social media?

We don't know about the direct effects of social media participation on rankings. However, we do know about the indirect effects. White-hat link building is relationship building. Build relationships with influencers in your niche, get them to notice your stuff, and they might share your stuff to their followers or link to it on their websites. Their followers might also link to it on their websites. I know that I often blog about something I found on Twitter or Facebook.
Plus, so many searches are personalized now, showcasing results from the searcher's network. If you're in their network, your content is more likely to show up.
Social media can also be a simple form of reputation management. If you have active accounts on the major social networks, it's likely that they will appear on page 1 when someone searches your brand, possibly pushing down anything negative.

YouTube Channels - Geotargeting - UK & US specific YT channels (but with identical videos)
Can you have one for each region such as Uk & US like you might with FaceBook etc: I know its a good idea for Geo-targeting reasons to have country specific social pages to promote country specific websites (i.e. UK FaceBook for .co.uk website and US Facebook for .com site etc), does the same apply to YouTube ? Does YouTube allow this (since videos will be effectively the same on both channels) ? I would hope so since say if you wanted to exploit annotated links to the main site from the videos then you would want the US viewer following a link to a US product page not a UK page and vice versa ? Do i direct traffic to all social platforms or not?
Hi ...I have a brand that is very strong socially..specifically facebook and twitter and this is where we have directed all strategy and traffic. We recently wanted to establish a presence on google+ and have done so. My feeling at this point is to maintain a presence on google+ but only direct social traffic to facebook and twitter from the brands website....so we can keep the focus here aswell as the stronger community. I have noticed other brands doing something similar.....is this a good strategy or should we be directing traffic to all the platforms from the site?...bottomline should we be linking to all our social platforms from the brands website or keep it linked to the stronger platforms and just maintain a presence on the others? thank you

SEO relevance of Google+. Should we bother getting Google+?
I've read mixed results about the SEO benefit of having Google+ for your company. I'm sure that a very small % of my sites user base has Google+ so if we did implement Google+ into our site I don't think we would really have anyone following us...or in our circle or whatever they call it. So are you guys using Google+ for your business and if so, do you think it's worth it for me to if I know barely any of my users have Google+? Google really seems to be trying to plush Google+ for business, with replacing Google places with Google+ Business and requiring people to log into Google+ to rate businesses. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Twitter and SEO
Hello Mozzers, I am trying to determine the effectiveness of using twitter as an SEO tactic. A site in my niche (healthcare job boards) is ranking very well for a handful of head terms. Their backlink profile is okay, but not amazing. But one thing that stands out to me is their approach to twitter, http://www.physemp.com/socialTwitter.html. It looks like they send an automated feed of their jobs to these specific twitter handles. Each of the handles has over 2,000 followers (some are legit some are bots). The site ranks for some highly competitive head terms (see attached). Can any of their ranking success be attributed to these various twitter handles? Is Google seeing these twitter feeds and associating high follower count and high tweet frequency with the URL attached to each account? Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Is there anyway for redirected links to still provide SEO value?
I help a site that helps spread word by getting links on peoples social media pages. These links are truncated ie website.com/XyUE for the purposes of tracking clicks, referrals and so forth. I have heard that when a link is in a redirect form like that it loses close to all, if not completely all of its link value. The links themselves are technically 301's. Do these still maintain value? For example, the stopped.at links on this person's twitter. http://twitter.com/#!/Melewis18 Is there any way to make links of this type maintain SEO value? Is there a workaround to truncating for tracking purposes?
