We have detected that the root domain is not a live URL.

I'm trying to add a URL that is having some obvious issues so I can further investigate. When trying to add this site to a campaign in SEOmoz i get the following:
Roger has detected a problem:
We have detected that the root domain theurbandater.com is not a live URL. Using this domain, we will be unable to crawl your site or present accurate SERP information.
==
What does that error mean? Where should I be looking to begin troubleshooting?
The initial issue was that back on 9/1 according to Google Webmaster Tools this site began getting a high number of 500 erros and that number continued to rise up to 3200 of the same type of error. So something screwy is going on and I'm not sure where to start looking.

REALLY pleased to hear this functionality is in the works, Keri. It's something I have felt was sorely missing here on SEOMoz.
I just tried this process manually with a number of questions I had contributed answers to that still remained unmarked and unclosed. Didn't have much luck, probably for just the reason you mention-no longer members.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for following up! The OP is no longer a PRO member, so there won't be a response from them. We're working on some upgrades that will automatically send a reminder note like this to the OP after a week or two, encouraging them to mark a good answer or write more about their question.

Did you get this issue resolved, Alex?
If so and you found my answer helpful, could you mark it as a "Good Answer" and mark the overall question as answered? This will help other users who may come across the question in the future.
And if you haven't' been able to resolve the issue, just post a followup here with whatever further info you have and we'll try to help!
Thanks!
Paul

If you've been getting that many 500 errors, it's possible that when Roger tried to access the URL to start the campaign, he got a 500 error as well.
500 errors are server errors, which means something is wrong with the server or software configuration of your website. You're going to need someone with technical expertise to analyse and assess your site's server and software error logs to get to the bottom of why your site's pages are failing to load. Usually this would be your hosting provider.
You need to get this solved ASAP, as not only will search rankings be hurt, but your users are unable to reach your website's pages an awful lot of the time. There's no point in putting effort into SEO until the site is reliable.
You can set up Pingdom's monitoring tool to get a clear idea of exactly how often your site is erroring out. Their free account would at least allow you to monitor your home page for outages. (Make sure you set it up to monitor for a particular word or phrase on the page, that way you'll get the best info on when your page is not fully responding properly.)

How can I use Google Analytics to detect users viewing my website on a TV?
I want to see in Google Analytics whether or not people are viewing my website on a TV, such as with a smart TV or other device connected to their TV. These are the only ways to do this that I have found so far: Operating system: Google TV, Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3, Xbox Browser: Nintendo Browser, Playstation 3 Are there other data points that I can reliably use to segment these users?

Cross Domain Tracking in GA (without cross domain links)
Hi everyone, Been doing some research about cross-domain tracking in Google Analytics (preferably Universal Analytics where documentation is a bit spare). All of the tutorials focus on the auto-linking and ensuring links to the other site are taken care of. I'm considering a site that may not cross-link like that at all (or it may, but won't be the main avenue). A good example is: www.gap.com

www.bananarepublic.com
www.oldnavy.com Now, they do link to the other brands in their navigation but let's pretend that they don't necessarily do that. Gap Corporate may want to roll up all these domains into a single reporting profile because customers can clearly visit any of those sites on their own and buy. It would be nice to know that Visitor X bought 2 items from gap.com and 3 from oldnavy.com... and of course, here were their campaigns, etc. From what I am reading, I am not sure this is really possible. It seems that the cross-domain code is really only best for when my main site links to another domain for checkout or something. But in my example, we are definitely not in control of that kind of behavior. Thoughts? Perhaps I need to recommend they go with subdomains only which Universal GA seems to handle quite fine out of the box. Thank you!0 -

Spike in 404 Errors from a redirecting domain
All, The non www version of a site I own redirects to the www version. Recently, WMT began showing a big spike in 404 errors (1,000+) on the non www version of the site. Site traffic is off about 15% since the spike in 404 errors. There was also a brief period about two weeks ago, where the site went down due to an issue with the code that has now been resolved. Any ideas how WMT is showing 404 errors on redirected pages? Thanks, John

Webmaster Not found URLs
Dear All, I would really like help with this. Due to some unknown reason (another thread is open for this reason), my google webmaster is showing 7000 not found URL's. Now, when i try to find out the day these broken URLs were detected, webmaster is showing dates between November 2011 to December 2nd, 2011. I havent found a single not found error showing after 2nd December 2011. So does that mean that the mistake has been solved? Because daily webmaster is adding 200-300 not found URLs. Along with this, my traffic has dropped drastically since 12th December and has still not recovered. Are these not found URLs the reason for this sudden traffic drop? If so, then i m ready to find someone for paid seo to remove this error. I would love to have some concrete answers for these questions. Thanksss
