Redirecting Domain will cause SEO?
-
I am redirecting my domain, based on Geo Location. For example : if someone browse from india www.example.com they will redirect to www.example.in Does redirecting domain on Geo based will cause SEO or Any kind of duplicate content issue, as i am using same content on both TLDs.

Hi
Tom is right about the duplicate content issues.
The other option is to make the 2 sites into 1, with the different language and cultural options available on each page, so someone can click a link and see the English or Indian version.
This would make promotion easier as you would just need to focus on 1 site.
I hope this helps

So it sounds like (correct me if I'm wrong) that when a user from India lands on your site, they're given a geo cookie and sent to the .in domain. Therefore, the .com domain can still be visited by people in other regions?
In this case, you're definitely going to have a duplicate content issue. If it was a permanent 301 redirect for all users, you would not as Google wouldn't be able to crawl the .com site. But if it's only a few based on geo location, Google is going to be able to crawl both the .com and .in and there's a good chance it will flag it for duplicate content.
Two things you can do - attach rel="canonical" tags to both domains and make one of the domains' content point to the others. For example, if you wanted to rank the .com site as a priority, put canonicals like to the .in site.
What I'd strongly recommend, however, would be to rewrite one of the sites and get unique content. It may take time, but you remove any risk of being flagged for duplicate content while giving your sites a better chance of both ranking.

Will Switching to HTTPS Lower My Domain Authority?
Hi All, I had a quick look online but couldn't find any information regarding this so thought I would ask. Please point me in the right direction if it has been asked before of if there are any useful articles online. We are currently in the process of switching one of our clients old sites from http to https, we have done all of the steps except from making the https version the main domain, or 301ing the http version to the https version. If we were to do this would we expect to see a drop in domain authority? a drop in keyword rankings? or is there anything else we should be worried about? Thanks Mozzers

Will presentational HTML tags actually be having a negative SEO effect?
Hi All, I have been using some scanning tools as usual and I keep getting notified about presentational HTML. I'm not involved in the web design but if this is actually having a negative effect then we need to get it changed. Can anyone advise? "pages of this website were found to use presentational HTML elements and/or attributes. It is widely regarded that use of presentational HTML like and should be avoided."

Will combining multiple websites/brands into one Wordpress Multisite Installation hurt SEO?
My company currently operates four websites, independently of each other, a corporate website and three separate store brands. innovativemattresssolutions.com - corporate website mattressking.net sleepoutfitters.com mattresswarehouse.com All of our stores have the same branding, same TV spots, same print ads, etc across the company, we just swap out logos on all marketing pieces. It is proving nearly impossible for us to maintain four separate websites, currently on three different platforms. all four are hosted separately as of now. We would like to combine all four websites to one Wordpress Multisite installation so we can manage the pages from one place, using the same theme and even content in many places because all brands share the same info, policies, products, etc. We would set up wordpress multi using subfolders for installation and point the URL directly to resolve to the appropriate subfolder. The only site that would crosslink to the others would be the corporate website. Is this a bad idea for SEO? What other options would we have? Should we keep the corporate site on its own installation, but put the other three brands on a multisite install? Would duplicating content on the three brand pages be an issue? Less of an issue if they were not on multisite? Any insight is much appreciated.

Transfer a Main Domain to a Sub-Domain
My IT department tells me they want to transfer my main site domain, which has been in existence since 1999 as an e-commerce site (maindomain.com) to a sub-domain (www2.maindomain.com) or a completely new domain (newdomain.net). This is because we are launching a new website and B2C e-commerce engine, but we still have to maintain the legacy B2B e-commerce engine which contains hard-coded URLs, and both systems can't use the same domain. I've been researching the issue across SEOmoz, but I haven't come across this exact type of scenario (mostly I've seen a sub-domain to new domain). I see major problems with their proposal, including negative SEO impact, loss of domain authority/ranking and issues with branding. Does anyone know the exact type of impact I can expect to see in this scenario and specific steps I should go about to minimize the impact? Btw, I will be using Danny Dover's guide on properly moving domains where appropriate. Thanks!

Global ecommerce domain redirecting to country specific TLD
We have a large ecommerce website xyz.com that redirects to xyz.ch. Recently the group expanded to India and they have launched a website called xyz.in. Depending upon the ip address, xyz.com redirects to xyz.in (for Indian audience) and redirects to xyz.ch elsewhere. Now xyz.in wants to rebrand themselves as xyz.com. To achieve this, we are planning a full-fledged, step-by-step, planned domain migration from xyz.in to xyz.com. We have two scenarios now. 1. xyz.com will continue to redirect to xyz.ch only in czech republic (depending upon ip) 2. xyz.com will cease to redirect to anywhere else. Can you advise us on the implications on both the scenarios? What's your best suggestion for us? It's slightly urgent. The management wants to take a quick action. But we want to be very sure about the implications from SEO point of view.

301-redirect
Hi My website is fairly new and i wasnt aware of the difference btw 'website.com' and 'www.website.com' when i started up. It doesnt matter which one i use as long as i am consistent right ? Most of my ingoing links are to mainpage on 'website.com'. I have som ingoing links to 'www.website.com' but also some to 'www.website.com/brandname'. is it enough to 301-redir 'www.website.com' to 'website.com' or does it need to be done on several levels ? I need to have someone do the redirect for me - how can i check its working when its done ? Dan Lærum

301 redirects and old domain names
Thanks to the great advice i've received on this forum, I'm combining 50 different truck sites into a single, ultimate truck website. So my question is how long should I make a website 301 redirect to the appropriate page on my new website? My thought is that if it works well to have a single website, it might be nice to eventually sell off some of the old domain names that I won't be using anymore. Thanks! Andy
