Directory URL structure last / in the url

Ok,
So my site's urls works like this www.site.com/widgets/
If you go to www.site.com/widgets (without the last / ) you get a 404.
My site did no used to require the last / to load the page but it has over the last year and my rankings have dropped on those pages...
But Yahoo and BING still indexes all my pages without the last / and it some how still loads the page if you go to it from yahoo or bing, but it looks like this in the address bar once you arrive from bing or yahoo.
http://www.site.com/404.asp?404;http://site.com:80/widgets/
How do I fix this?
Should'nt all the engines see those pages the same way with the last / included?

Are you saying I should redirect to pages like this /name/

/name

having a slash or not should not matter as far as accessing the page, nor really for SEO. Structurally you should keep to one (preferably the /) rather than switching. However, both links are broke, so I presume you have changed something.
I see not reason for a redirect as you may fall into an infinite loop.

Do I understand right that I should use ONLY the /widgets/ pages? and redirect the /widgets pages?

Matt Cutts said in a video with Rand that you could use either way, but he recommends choosing one way and sticking with it. He said using a trailing forward slash was preferred and is the more technical way. So, I would use that way, since you seem to be using that anyway.
What you need to do is setup server-side 301 redirects so if someone goes to www.mysite.com/blog it will automatically redirect them to mysite.com/blog/ --- using a 301 perm redirect will eventually clear out any bad indexed pages and willl get you going on the right track.

You should do a 301 redirect from the non "/" version at the end to the www.site.com/widget/ version.
I've posted a "similar" questions a few days ago and someone posted the htaccess code that can work for you too.. you just need to change the domain names and urls there:
http://www.seomoz.org/q/301-redirect-www-domain-com-index-to-www-domain-com

Hi everyone! I've read a bunch of articles on the topic, but I can't seem to be able to figure out a solution that works for the specific case. We are creating a site for a service agency, this agency has offices around the world - the site has a global version (in English/French & Spanish) and some country specific versions. Here is where it gets tricky: in some countries, each office has a different version of the site and since we have Canada for example we have a French and an English version of the site. For cost and maintenance reason, we want to have a single domain : www.example.com We want to be able to indicate via Search Console that each subdomain is attached to a different country, but how should we go about it. I've seen some examples with subfolders like this: Global FR : www.example.com/fr-GL Canada FR: www.example.com/fr-ca France: www.example.com/fr-fr Does this work? It seems to make more sense to use : **Subdirectories with gTLDs, **but I'm not sure how that would work to indicate the difference between my French Global version vs. France site. Global FR : www.example.com/fr France : www.example.com/fr/fr Am I going about this the right way, I feel the more I dig into the issue, the less it seems there is a good solution available to indicate to Google which version of my site is geo-targeted to each country. How to de-index a page with a search string with the structure domain.com/?"spam"
The site in question was hacked years ago. All the security scans come up clean but the seo crawlers like semrush and ahrefs still show it as an indexed page. I can even click through on it and it takes me to the homepage with no 301. Best practice for URL - Language/country
Hi, We are planning on having our website localized into more languages. We already have an English and German version. The German version is currently a sub-domain: www.example.com --> English version de.example.com --> German version Is this recommended? Or is it always better to have URLs with language prefixes such a: www.example.com/de www.example.com/es Which is a better practice in terms of SEO?

Redesign existing websites / worried about urls / mapping
Hi Guys, While redesigning existing websites that will have page name changes such as: example.com/products to be called example.com/solutions example.com/about-us to be called example.com/about should I 301 the old url to the new url. Canonical for non-exist URL ?
Hi I have a website what has parameter URL. For example www.example.com/index.php?page_id=1&no=2 I want that search engine see my page URL as; www.example.com/toys/cars But this URL is not exist in my website. And when i externally enter this page it goes to 404 page. If i add canonical url as www.example.com/toys/cars to the page www.example.com/index.php?page_id=1&no=2, what happened ? Is the url at the serp change as www.example.com/toys/cars ?

New website branding, differences between http://www and http://
Hey Mozers! We will be creating another brand pretty soon with some pretty cool interactive features and before we start development of the site I was wondering if there are any pros/cons to branding the site sans the www. For example http://example123.com and http://www.example123.com. I would much prefer to brand it has http://example123.com but I just wanted to check first to see if that would have any negative SEO ramifications. It seems that it might just be a preference as I looked at Facebook and Twitter and they both do it differently, same with Groupon and LivingSocial. Looking forward to hearing from you guys!
