My Blog pages are out ranking my main website
-
My blog was on wordpress.com for over 18mnths and I have just moved it to my domain - rankings are charging as a result - up and down!
My current concern is my google.co.uk search position for garden art - my home page http://www.gardenbeet.com has been number 2 for over 12 mnths - now my blog is number 2 http://www.gardenbeet.com/garden_design_blog/garden-art/
this is not the best landing page to generate sales from my shop - any suggestions?
-
I fyou have 301 redirected, then you dontneed to use canonical
-
All pages i checked did not have any. they do now.
good luck -
Yes, we can do that, the canonical need not be exactly the same content. At least in tests I did worked : /
-
ooo take that back - there are posts under garden art without a link to home page - thank you for picking that up!!!
-
i have already done 301's from my old wordpress site to my new blog location on my main domain..
also I cant really use a cross domain canonical to direct traffic from my blog to home page - its not the same content?
-
yes, thatnks - that is the long term plan
-
hey thanks for your response - in general if i have written a post about garden art I would have a link back to the home page on the term garden art in the post
also the top menu has a link to the home page through the SHOP
where else should i place a link?

Randfish last spoke about cross domain canonical in whiteboard. Where you could indicate to Google all your previous blog page to its current home in a few days and that home took this position. See if this helps:
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/cross-domain-canonical-the-new-301-whiteboard-friday
Another solution would be more risky to create a url for another http://www.gardenbeet.com/garden_design_blog/garden-art/ and use the original to do a 301 to your home. So theoretically the home would take her position. I've done it a few times and it worked.
Hope that helps.

I suggest that you make the header the same in the main domain and in the blog... So the logo can always link to your home page (shop) and the button Garden Design Blog will always get you on the blog main page. I know it's a bit of work but that's how i see it proper for not confusing search engines or your clients...
Hope this helps

First thing i noticed, there is no links from your blog to your home page. it looks to google that the blog is a sub site. make sure every page in your site links to the home page. in theory you should link to every page from your home page and back to the home page from every page and no cross linking to give your homepage maximum link juice, but of cause that would not be user frendly, but you should have that in mind when thinking about linking.
Without getting too complicated make sure ever page in your blog has a link to the hoome page

Another website copying our blog content but credit us. Still bad?
Hi Moz community, A few businesses that we work with are asking if they can leverage our content such as blogs by basically copying it and post it on their site. They will give us credit for the content though. My concern is that going to cause duplicate content issue and hurt us with our SEO? We'd like to provide it to them in a way that would benefit us or at least doesn't hurt us. I can think of a few possible options... 1. Have them only copy part of the content and link back to our site with a link "Read the original article" or something similar 2. Have them implement rel=canonical back to our site 3. Have them just copy the whole thing (because it doesn't really hurt us?). In that case, do we have them link back to us or no? Is there anything I missed? What's the best option for us? Thank you for the help in advance!

At what point to stop comments on a blog? Do too many comments hurt the page?
I have a page that's ranking pretty well, and driving sales. That page is starting to get 10+ comments per day and is starting to get quite long. I was wondering if there is a point where I should disable the comments? My gut tells me that people interacting with the page, and Google seeing responses with the users SHOULD be a good thing not bad. But, then I think that a majority of the content of the page is no longer the article, but the comments. All the comments are good, non spammy and directly related to the topic. People just asking questions, etc. Good engagement, I should be happy right?

Should my client copy and paste his blog posts onto other professional sites?
I have a client who is an Attorney and participates in a couple of different Q and A legal sites. One of these legal sites is recommending to my client that he copy and paste his blog posts onto his profile page on the Q and A site. I understand my client wanting to copy and paste his blog posts onto these sites, as it will not only get his content in front of a larger audience, but also lend credibility. However, I've always heard that that could cause some duplicate content problems. Will my client's blog likely get penalized by google for copying and pasting his blog posts onto other relevant sites?

Lost in the blog world
I want to start a blog, but honestly I have no idea where to start as I've got so many questions so I hope someone can help me out. I have a Magento e-commerce website so I've got the possibility to integrate the WP extension. Would that be a good idea or is it better to have a separate blog and separate server? Which blog platform is considered to be the best and what are the main differences between the big blog platforms? Should I use my business (domain) name for my blog or have a separate (domain) name? How often are you 'supposed' to blog per week/month to build a strong blog? Many thanks in advance!

I wrote this blog, now what can I do?
Morning Guys As part of a bigger SEO Project I am writing some blog posts. I am trying to use information we have based on shopping habits within our store. So I have written this first blog post: http://blog.uniquemagazines.co.uk/2013/03/top-10-womens-magazines-purchased-as.html What can I do with my blog now to get more exposure? I have submitted our blog to a couple of RSS directory lists. I also created a pintrest board, and announced the blog post on our facebook and twitter accounts. I am hoping to do 1 of these bigger posts per week, and this took me about 3-4 hours to research the stats and compile the information, so obviously the more I can get out of it the better. Also, I am hoping over a number of weeks I can identify what sort of content relates best to our customers/browsers. Thanks Paul

The same phrase in many different pages of one site
Hi,
Content Development | | webg
Recently, I had to add the same phrase, with 15 words, nearly, in 700 posts in a same blog. In this phrase is written about the site ownership and eventually some links showing the posts sources. I thought in create a image, but it will be some variations in the source words (2 or 3), therefore I chose to use text format. I'd like to read some comments and opinions about this kind of insertion (the same phrase in many different pages of one site). For exemple, did you handle this in your site? Problems or benefits (mainly with indexing)? Special code to indicate in this case? Any threat?0
