National not international domain name does it matter?
-
I am working on a website and have noticed managers own only the relevant national domain name and not the .com domain name.
Does this matter from an SEO perspective?
-
Hi Luke,
If the website is targeting to a specific country then having a ccTLD is an additional signal of relevance for it (unless the US, where typically the domain used de-facto is .com).
Nonetheless, if the Website is targeting to a worldwide audience (let's say a Website in English targeting to any user who speaks that language, for which the country doesn't matter) then it would be more relevant to have a generic domain (like the .com), since the Website is not country targeted.
Thanks,
Aleyda

I don't think this matters under an SEO perspective because you have the best TLD for each market, however many users may try to make direct traffic to the .com site so it will make sense to avoid other people buying that site and create a tiny page trying to deliver that traffic to other sites than yours. Even if you don't want to create that site I'll better prevent other ones to make it. Anytime you want you may consider creating the english focused website on that TLD.

Question about getting domain name re-indexed
I recently swapped my domain from www.davescomputers.com to www.computer-help.com . Originally www.computer-help.com was 301 re-directing to www.davescomputers.com ...however my long term goal is to eventually rebrand my business so I decided to utilize the other domain by swapping the main domain. Is consistant blogging the best way to get Google to re-index the entire website? My focus has been quality posts and sharing them with vairus social profiles I created.

Sub-domain or not???
Hi, We're setting up a forum for our users (our target audience responds extremely well to forums). I was wondering if it should be set up on a sub-domain or not. I'm leaning towards sub-domain, but our devs say this will impact how they approach it so I'd like to give them an answer asap so we can proceed with planning it! Thanks, Amelia

Brand name in title of posts?
Hi All,
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | JohnPalmer
new question about my blog: in my posts title I have to add the brand? for example -
The title of the post | My Brand name
Or just the title without the brand? Because my post title too long and I know that Google show only the 60 characters. so it will show like this:
The long title of my post | My Brand n... (just for example) is it okay? or for 100% optimization I have to keep it 60 Characters and no more. What do you think? Is it bad for my brand? good?0 -

301 redirecting staff Domain to Company Domain
My colleague owns a domain (A) for about 10 years that he does not use. The domain's content is the same as my company's website (B) content.

Question: Can I 301 redirect domain A to domain B's homepage or is it better he just closes down his website since this would not be SEO best practices? thank you0 -

Given the following urls: example.com/warriors/ninjas/ example.com/warriors/ninjas/cid=WRS-NIN01 Is there any difference from an SEO perspective? Aesthetically the 2nd bugs me but that's not a statistical difference. Thank you

Domain migration strategy
Imagine you have a large site on an aged and authoritative domain. For commercial reasons the site has to be moved to a new domain, and in the process is going to be revamped significantly. Not an ideal starting scenario obviously to be biting off so much all at once, but unavoidable. The plan is to run the new site in beta for about 4 weeks, giving users the opportunity to play with it and provide feedback. After that there will be a hard cut over with all URLs permanently redirected to the new domain. The hard cut over is necessary due to business continuity reasons, and real complexity in trying to maintain complex UI and client reporting over multiple domains. Of course we'll endeavour to mitigate the impact of the change by telling G about the change in WMC and ensuring we monitor crawl errors etc etc. My question is whether we should allow the new site to be indexed during the beta period? My gut feeling is yes for the following reasons: It's only 4 weeks and until such time as we start redirecting the old site the new domain won't have much whuffie so there's next to no chance the site will ranking for anything much. Give Googlebot a headstart on indexing a lot of URLs so they won't all be new when we cut over the redirects Is that sound reasoning? Is the duplication during that 4 week beta period likely to have some negative impact that I am underestimating?
