Sitemap as Referrer in Crawl Error Report
-
I have just downloaded the SEOMoz crawl error report, and I have a number of pages listed which all show FALSE.
The only common denominator is the referrer - the sitemap.
I can't find anything wrong, should I be worried this is appearing in the error report?

Thanks Tom.
The site map is pointing to the correct pages, and when visiting the pages in the search engines no problems arises.
I don't understand why these pages are listed in the crawl error report when I can't see any obvious issue.

Hi Christina
If the referrer is the sitemap, it means that the SEOMoz crawler has been directed to that page because of the sitemap you have submitted.
If you're getting 404 errors or access errors for certain pages and they are only able to be accessed via the sitemap, then it's a good idea to remove those URLs from the sitemap altogether. It doesn't make sense to have URLs listed in your sitemap if those URLs don't exist or have restricted access.
A cleaner sitemap will ultimately help in the long run. Hope this helps.

Weird, long URLS returning crawl error
Hi everyone, I'm getting a crawl error "URL too long" for some really strange urls that I'm not sure where they are being generated from or how to resolve it. It's all with one page, our request info. Here are some examples: http://studyabroad.bridge.edu/request-info/?program=request info > ?program=request info > ?program=request info > ?program=request info > ?program=programs > ?country=country?type=internships&term=short%25 http://studyabroad.bridge.edu/request-info/?program=request info > ?program=blog > notes from the field tefl student elaina h in chile > ?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=notes%2Bfrom%2Bthe%2Bf Has anyone seen anything like this before or have an idea of what may be causing it? Thanks so much!

Using a single sitemap for multiple domains
We have a possible duplicate content issue based on the fact that we have a number of websites run from the same code base across .com / .co.uk / .nl / .fr / .de and so on. We want to update our sitemaps alongside using the href lang tags to ensure Google knows we've got different versions of essentially the same page to serve different markets. Google has written an article on tackling this:https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/75712?hl=en but my question remains whether having a single sitemap accessible from all the international domains is the best approach here or whether we should have individual sitemaps for each domain.

Fixing Crawl Errors
Hi! I moved my Wordpress blog back in August, and lost much of my site traffic. I recently found over 1000 crawl errors in Webmaster Tools because some of my redirects weren't transferred, so we are working on fixing the errors and letting Google know. I'm wondering how long I should expect for Google to recognize that the errors have been fixed and for the traffic to start returning? Thanks! Jodi - momsfavoritestuff.com

RSS Feed Errors in Google
We recently (2 months ago) launched RSS feeds for the category pages on our site. Last week we started seeing error pages in Webmaster Tools' Crawl Errors report pop up for feeds of old pages that have been deleted from the site, deleted from the sitemap, and not in Google's index since long before we launched the RSS feeds. Example: www.mysite.com/super-old-page/feed/ I checked and both the URL for the feed and the URL for the actual page are returning 404 statuses. www.mysite.com/super-old-page/ is also showing up in our Crawl Errors. Its been deleted for months but Webmaster Tools is very slow to remove the page from their Crawl Error report. Where is Google finding these feeds that never existed?

Mobile sitemaps - how much value?
Hi, We have a main www website with a standard sitemap. We also have a m. site for mobile content (the mobile site only contains our top pages and doesn't include the entire site). If a mobile client accesses one of our www pages we redirect to the m. page. If we don't have a m. version we keep them on the www site. Since we already have a www sitemap, is there much value in creating a mobile site map? The mobile site (although missing all pages) is pretty robust and contains most content people are looking for. Will the mobile sitemap help for Mobile searches (more so than our standard sitemap)? I'm also planning on rel canonical the m. pages to the www. pages (per other suggestios on SEOMoz) Thanks
