Online interactive catalog
-
We post our interactive catalog on our site. Should i block this from the crawlers? I notice this is creating a lot of pages with duplicate titles and i dont know if i should go through and rename all of these or just exclude them.

As Frankenstein always says "Thin, duplicate content bad!"
As Matt Cutts says "Comprehensive, unique content good!"
You need to configure the catalog with unique titles and descriptions for each product page and make sure that each product page is information rich - great descriptions, pictures, reviews etc. You will need to spend some time on this. Possibly pay an intern or someone on oDesk to work in this for you. Also, the navigation through the product pages in the catalog needs to be clear, a single path through it for bots so that they do not get in an infinite loop of search results and filters to thin search result pages. If you have any search/ resort/filter options for search results you need to nofollow links to those pages and noindex those result pages.
If you already have an online catalog and this new one is duplicating the old one, you need to consolidate the two and get as much unique helpful and easily accessible content as you can on the site.
View this video on pagination and it can lead you down a good path of how to setup

What to do with old website still online & duplicate content
I launched a new wordpress site at www.cheaptubes.com in Sept. I haven't taken the old one down yet, it is still at http://65.61.43.25/ The reason I left it up is I wanted to make sure everything was properly redirected 1st. Some pages and images are still ranking but most point to the new site. When I search for carbon nanotubes pricelist and look in images I see some of our images on the old site are still ranking there https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://65.61.43.25/images/single-walled-nanotubes.1.gif&imgrefurl=http://65.61.43.25/ohfunctionalizedcnts.htm&h=359&w=451&tbnid=HKlL84A_9X0jGM:&docid=N2wdCg7rSQBsjM&ei=-A2qVqThL4WxeKCyjdAM&tbm=isch&ved=0ahUKEwikvcWdxczKAhWFGB4KHSBZA8oQMwhJKCIwIg I guess I can put WP on the old server and do some 301s from there but I'm not sure if that is best or if I should just kill it off entirely? My rankings took a hit on Nov 15th and business has been bad ever since so I'm trying to figure this out quickly. Moz.com and onpage.org both say my site has duplicate content on several pages. I've looked at the content and it isn't duplicate. How can I figure this out? Google likely see's it the same way. These aren't duplicate pages, they are different products. I even searched my product pages to make sure I didn't have 2 of each in there and I don't. With Moz its mostly product tags it sees as duplicate but the products are completely different

What online tools are best to identify website duplicate content (plagiarism) issues?
I've discovered that one of the sites I am working on includes content which also appears on number of other sites. I need to understand exactly how much of the content is duplicated so I can replace it with unique copy. To do this I have tried using tools such as plagspotter.com and copyscape.com with mixed results, nothing so far is able to give me a reliable picture of exactly how much of my existing website content is duplicated on 3rd party sites. Any advice welcome!

Hard-working newbie question: benefit of moving my blog to my online store's domain?
Hi all, I've been running an online wine store in Switzerland for a month and have been working hard on SEO (I love learning about it). Anyway, for a couple of years prior to launching the store, I had been running a wine blog whose articles are ranking well in Google. I now want to link the two. My questions are: A) will the addition of the blog (store.com/blog) contribute to the store's domain authority (currently, the blog authority is higher than the site authority)? B) technically, can I 301 the whole blog to store.com/blog? Any help and tips would be appreciated. Thank you!

Is the sun online newspaper right with their home page
Hi, i made my home page shorter here www.in2town.co.uk because a couple of people on here said i should shorten my home page but i have noticed that the sun newspaper and other online newspapers have now made their home page longer, is this a good idea or a bad idea. Here is the sun newspaper http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/ The reason why i done it in the first place was to allow as much info to be on the home page as possible, showing all the different sections on my site and allow google to see as well as our visitors how often the site gets updated. I would love to hear your thoughts on if we should make our home page longer again like the sun newspaper or if you think this is a bad idea.

35 Categories + sub-categories for online store, can it hurt SEO?
this is my online store http://www.furnacefilterscanada.com I experiencing new site architecture for better buyer experience. I found this solution for setting up categories: http://filtration-montreal.mybigcommerce.com I ask this questions many times about my site architecture, I find this solution, using around 35 categories and sub-categories. Is it O.K. or it can hurt SEO to have to many categories. See example on this trial version of BigCommerce: http://filtration-montreal.mybigcommerce.com I will use the top horizontal menu for the most popular furnace filters sizes. Also, I want to use this cascading dropdown option in the header http://www.asp.net/ajaxLibrary/AjaxControlToolkitSampleSite/CascadingDropDown/CascadingDropDown.aspx where I wiil setup 3 options to select: filter width filter lenght filter depth What is your opinions, I'm I on the right path? Online Marketing exec seeking internal SEO advice - Large org. Many verticals. Where to start?
Hello! I'm an Online Marketeer who's taking on some SEO responsibility internally (after months of researching - information overload) and will be working with an external agency. I'll get to the point here. The difficulty I have is in getting my head around approaching our SEO strategy. I have what I would class as a beginner-intermediate understand of SEO and the tools and techniques available for assistance (many great articles available on this forum and others). I feel that there are some real opportunities for our company that has already placed investment into SEO previously. The difficulty I have is working out how to approach the whole campaign. We are a recruitment consultancy with many many vertical markets, the sheer amount of keywords could be staggering. For some short insights we have a homepage PR 4, Alexa 338,361, PA 56, moz Rank 4.61. I've started by using the SEOmoz pro tool to identify problems with our sites optimisation and improve them. On reflection our site is doing OK, but we really need to show some significant results in search rankings, increases in traffic, and ultimately conversions. I'm a keen user of G-analytics and love the SEOmoz tool (a selection of the tools I will use to measure results). Are there any basic frameworks to devising a strategy that could help point me in the right direction? E.g. Keyword Research

Should I set up a disallow in the robots.txt for catalog search results?
When the crawl diagnostics came back for my site its showing around 3,000 pages of duplicate content. Almost all of them are of the catalog search results page. I also did a site search on Google and they have most of the results pages in their index too. I think I should just disallow the bots in the /catalogsearch/ sub folder, but I'm not sure if this will have any negative effect?
