Keywords loosing positions whats best can be done?
-
Hi,
Keywords loosing positions whats best can be done?
We have 1,000's of keywords we receive traffic each day and new ones added daily and many loose from position 1 to 10 or more
What can we do to get back to position1 or the first page?
Any tips i could get?
Thanks

Ah, thank you for the clarification.
In that case, here are somethings you do:
- Review the on-page SEO of the articles and see if they are fully optimized for the keywords. If not, then optimize the pages, but try not to fall into the trap of over-optimizing.
- Update the articles and republish them. Freshness can affect rankings.
- Create a new version of the article and publish that. I'm not talking about spinning, but rather if it's been a while since the article was written and perhaps there are some new things that could be added or old things that should be removed, you could create a new version. In fact, in some situations, you may have articles that can be redone every year.
- Try to build some links to the articles.
- Share the articles on social networks and with bloggers in your niche who might find the articles interesting and useful.

I agree with Devanur, that you should wait if the change just happened. Rankings are constantly fluctuating and are especially volatile after an update. It's always good to let the dust settle a bit.
That said, if you find that your rankings continue to stay down (or it's already been a couple weeks) then you'll need to investigate the cause. I wouldn't just assume the issue is with Penguin. Start by checking to see if you've received any notifications of a violation of guidelines. If not, check to see if there is a correlation between when your rankings dropped and any particular known Google update. If so, proceed with the appropriate means of addressing the issues related to that particular update. If there is no obvious corresponding update, then analyze your site and it's link profile and check to see if there are any glaring issues either in the structure/functionality of the site or issues with the content or link profile of the site. Start by addressing the obvious issues and then continue to do your best to continue to improve the site's content and authority.
Sorry I can't be more specific, but figuring out what caused a site to lose rankings is something that usually takes detailed investigation of the specific site and situation.

Hi, before doing anything, I would recommend you to please wait for 2 to 3 weeks if you have not already done so. After any update, it is quite common to see a fluctuation in positions. If you have already waited for more than 3 weeks and still see heading South, the first thing (if there were no changes made to the website recently) to check would be the link profile of your website to make sure there are no spammy links in there.
The link evaluation flow chart from Bruceclay can be of great help in this regard:

You can go ahead accordingly. Assuming that the drop in rankings is because of recent Penguin update, you will have to initiate the process of getting rid of all those bad links, document them properly and submit them to Google and request for reconsideration. Here you go for more in this regard:

Please go through the article as it has links to everything that you might need in this regard.

Targeting several keywords at once.
Curious how some of you are able to target several keywords on one same page, for instance for the page www.tutoroo.co/arabic-tutor-dubai we aim to rank first on Google for keywords such as "Arabic tutor" and "Arabic teacher" but also for "learn Arabic" or "learning Arabic". How do you rank up number 1 for several phrase keywords without jeopardizing current rankings?

Title Length Vs Keywords
Hello all, I've been talking with an SEO expert who convinced me to add more keywords to my titles of a section of our site which is updated with products daily. I can see the logic and I do prefer having these additional keywords. The problem now is in Moz it says we have over 2,000 pages with title elements that are too long, which is true they are all over the 70 character limit. Is this a problem SEO wise? Speaking to our SEO expert they said it's not ideal from a user point of view as you can't see the full title, but are we going to be upsetting Google by having 150+ character titles? Thanks!

Can bots identify shmushed keywords?
I remember reading some years ago that domains and pages that have smushed keywords, such as cheapbaseballs.com/redbaseball.html could be identified by Google as "cheap baseballs" and "red base ball". Is this still correct?

Best url structure
I am making a new site for a company that services many cities. I was thinking a url structure like this, website.com/keyword1-keyword2-keyword3/cityname1-cityname2-cityname3-cityname4-cityname5. Will this be the best approach to optimize the site for the keyword plus 5 different cities ? as long as I keep the total url characters under the SeoMoz reccomended 115 characters ? Or would it be better to build separate pages for each city, trying to reword the main services to try to avoid dulpicate content.

Best links to gain?
Hi, Just a quick one to see what peoples thoughts are regarding links. I have just gained a free link on a .gov website in the UK. In one of their offers pages, will this provide any link value or domain trust to me and what can the benefits be SEO wise from having a link on a government domain? The link is just the website url with a a few lines of text detailing our address etc... so its not got any anchor text regarding targetting one of our brands. It is equallly, less or more important to target anchor text links to specific brands or to get good high quality links from trusted sites such as the .gov one I have linking to my root domain? The website is a local council website in the UK. And was listed by a member of their staff, who only list in the offer page if your offering discount to council members etc..., so its not a spammed page or anything like that. What are peoples views on anchor text links vs domain url links? Cheers Will

New Keywords stealing juice?
I already rank on the first page for all 13 of my main keyword terms. Is it possible for me to start ranking for additional key words on those page by adding additional content on the pages? How much impact will this have and will the new keywords still juice from my already good keywords? Also if I am already ranking well for those key words...with really horrible URL's. Would it be possible to add my new key words into the URL's? Since the current URL's seem to have nothing to do with my current rankings maybe I can keep my current rankings but then also get a huge boost for my new keyword rankings? Thank you, Boodreaux the novice. PS. I have already heard the great advice of keeping my old site map up for a while after I change the URL's in order to let google catch up and re-index the site.
