Setting up Goals in Analytics when no common 'order confirmation' type page

Hi
I'm working on a project/client and have asked them for the common url that shows whenever user finishes the purchase process so i cant set it up as a Goal in GA so we can track conversions etc
Since site is dynamically generated it does not have such a page.
Dev are suggesting setting up a new goal, generate a URL and script and they will append to a similar call.
Does this make sense/sound like it would work ? And is it quite easy to do that in Analytics ? Normally i just add a URL as a goal and jobs done, don't know about scripts etc !

Thanks but no idea how to, what do i do just copy and paste the code in your above/most recent comment, change the word 'button' to something else (or add something else after it) like 'data-transaction-button'. Do i change every instance of 'data-paypal-button' in above script to 'data-transaction-button' too ?
Then i just email it to dev and ask them to add it to an external file on the site ?
What about the code in your first comment ? (which i had already emailed the dev team) does that need to be done first before code in your most recent post ? And how and where does one fire an event in javascript ?
Pls be aware i havn't got any site backend access, i've just been advising dev what i need done so i can track conversions etc but they have come back with a massive quote for that so if i can do myself great but have no dev or code experience

})In the above code, all you need to do is add an attribute to the button, then include the script in a external file, job done
Where "data-paypal-button" can be anything, but should start with data- to keep with convention
'PayPal', 'Button', 'domain.com.au' can also be anything

I have issued these instructions to dev team and they have quoted £490 for setting up this 1 goal and £900+ for enabling and setting up e-commerce tracking which sounds extraordinary to me, Would appreciate your view, does this sound way of the mark to you ?
Normally developers i work with would implement these at less than half a days work

Alan's approach is what we use as well for non-purchase related goals. We set an event in the function that verifies a form submission (linked to the submit, or in your case maybe purchase, button) so the event is fired when the form is submitted successfully. Then you can set the goal as that event being triggered, and you're good to go.

Look at events in GA, all you need to do is fire a event in javascript and that event can be your goal, a goal does not have to be an url, it just needs to be an action, a button click for example.
add an attribute to a button or link such as data-ga-event
then add code such as
$document).ready(function(){
$("*[data-ga-event]).click(function(){
//your google event here
}
})

Why No Goal is recorded in Google Analytics
Hello, I am not sure if i made an error. Can someone please point out. On our sales form, when a user submits the form, the URL displayed is - https://x-y.com/thank-you-2/ I created a Goal like this - 1 ) Under Goal set up, i choose Template option 2 ) Under Goal description, i choose Type > Destination 3 ) and finally, in Goal details field, destination equals to /thank-you-2/ But, no Goal is being tracked. Ecommerce data in universal analytics
Does any have the same issue. We are tracking e-commerce data in GA universal. We are finding that sales are being recorded on the day of the sale and again a few days later. It does only seem to be 1 or 2 sales that do this not all. Does anyone have any suggestions? Much appreciated. David

I have a quick question. Does Google analytics track an order two times, if the user buys a product, see the confirmation page and then click refresh/click or back and forward again?
The order/tracking data must be the same, but i guess the tracking code runs for every refresh and therefore tracks the order two times in Analytics or does analytics know that it is the same order? Someone that can clearify this?Thanks! Regards

Ok so in my traffic sources break down I have 3 sections: direct, organic, and referral. My question is under the referral tab I have recently noticed a new traffic source, my own website.... How is this possible? My top referring site is my own website.... Is this considered direct traffic or how is this being traced?

Hi I have GA installed, whaen I try to use Inpage Analytics, I get this message: We've identified problems in your setup. These may cause problems loading In-Page Analytics. Error: The Website in your settings (http://www.tvorba-logo-firmy.sk) redirects into a different domain. (http://tvorba-logo-firmy.sk). In-Page Analytics currently works on only one domain. Note that www.example.com and example.com are NOT considered to be on the same domain. Also, make sure you're not redirecting from http:// to https:// or vice versa My website is running on wordpress. Thanks for help.

Google Analytics Tracking Code Queries
Hello, I have taken on a new client who has Google Analytics installed. The tracking code is set to 'single domain'. Recently they added a mobile site using a sub-domain (m.website.com) which means that Google Analytics is not picking up this traffic. I want to revise the account so that I have a master account (raw data) and then profiles for the mobile site, main domain (www.website.com) and one other for a sub-domain that they are using. I am aware that there is mobile specific tracking code however I thought it would be easier (re conversions/goals/eCommerce tracking) to not use this and by changing the account to 'multiple domains' we could also get data for another sub-domain that they are using . My questions are: Am I right to want to use individual profiles over web properties. If not please explain why. When installing the tracking code (where the profile number is changing) I believe that I need to add that code with the changing profile number to the sub-domain sections. So my question is a) is that correct, and b) if I use a profile number on a sub-domain section will the master account still gather the data for the main URL as well as all sub-domains. If I change the master account from using 'single domain' tracking code to 'multiple domain' tracking code will this affect historical data? Will I lose the data? When changing from 'single domain' tracking to 'multiple domain' tracking does this affect eCommerce tracking? Or do we only need to be adding the additional lines of tracking code that allow sub-domains to be tracked? The web developers are using asynchronous code however half is in the and the other half is at the bottom of the source code. Given that traffic is being reported in the Google Analytics account should I have any concerns that the code is split? I have done a lot of reading but seem to be going around in circles, so your help is much appreciated! Thanks,

If I change the URL of a page, but the old page canonicalizes to the new, do I need to change my Analytics goals to get data?
I changed the URLs of some pages recently (because the same thing that affects the internal anchor text also affects the URL - grr...) but considered it not a big deal because even if I looked at the source code of the old URL, the canonical tag was now pointing to the new one. The question is - if I had URL destination goals set up for those URLs in Google Anlaytics, do I now have to change them? Or does Google somehow know that anyone getting to the new URL is the equivalent of someone getting to the old URL because of the canonical tag that exists on the old URL source code? I still do see goal conversions for some of the old URLs even since I changed them - but it could be that people are still somehow finding the old URL somewhere - or that Google only reindexed it a week or so after I made the change.
