Site Rebuild -Larger to smaller

Hi All,
We are rebuilding an existing site which has around 230 Pages (lots of content not required) down to around 20. Whats the best way to 301 redirect the pages that are going to be removed- (we wont be able to use .htaccess because we are moving to Adobe Business Catalyst)
Thoughts? We are trying to preserve as much SEO value as possible.....

For pages that continue to exist obviously you need to redirect them to the new page URL.
For pages that you are removing, first off try to find the best match page to what they were about and redirect them.
For pages for which there is no obvious replacement, I will still redirect them anyway, but maybe to the home page of the site.
Google will re-crawl all new pages even when they match, to check content. In the context of a complete change of content for a page, very little if any SEO value will be retained but at least if someone is clicking an old link left on the web to a page which no longer exists they will be taken to a useful navigable page on your site.
Although you can no longer use .htaccess redirects, you can still do 301 redirects in Adobe Business Catalyst. Please see the documentation here: http://helpx.adobe.com/business-catalyst/partner/redirect-page-urls.html

It appears that the Adobe Business Catalyst system does allow you to create 301 redirects through the admin system:
http://helpx.adobe.com/business-catalyst/partner/redirect-page-urls.html… as well as be able to upload a .csv or .tab file to do a bulk listing.
I'd recommend 301 redirecting pages to a similar top-level category, so that the end user isn't confused when they arrive there.
That said, going from 230 pages to 20 is going to reduce the content of the site by 10x. I'd imagine that doing so is going to kill most of your SEO rankings. I'd just make sure to let the client know in writing that this is a pretty bad idea from an SEO rankings perspective.
We have a similar client that ranks extremely well for seminars and conferences, and their older conferences are still available on their site for people to reference. Some of them rank very well, even years later. The client wanted to remove these from their site, but we did some tracking and measurement and showed them that they were getting many new clients based on these older pages. As well as taking up spots on search results pages that their competition wouldn't get.
If there's one thing that Google likes, it's relevant content on a site. So I would make those 20 pages really count. Make the content extremely engaging to the end user. Watch the bounce count.

Site is losing traffic after relaunch
Hello, We've just relaunched this site in the last several days, and we're seeing some small (but stead) traffic decreases, as well as engagement decreases. We're aware that page speed (about 4 seconds from a non-cached browser) and some 404s are an issue, our team is currently working on both. But we're really looking for some constructive criticism here as to what we need to improve. Other issues to be aware of: lots of our social counts went back to 0s, as lots of URLs changed, and it wasn't possible to migrate comments from the old system, so those have gone back to 0 as well. We wonder if this might be affecting both users and search engines perception of the site. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Site Ranks on Page 1 - Would launching new site hurt that
Hello, I currently have a website ranking in the top 7 for my main keyword. The website was built in 2004 and is definitely outdated, yet still ranks very high and brings in business. If i launched a new site on this domain, what would happen to my rankings? Would they drop? would they rise? Will my site structure provide decent SEO?
We have an ASP.NET MVC website with a view that can dynamically display each product we offer. The product name is hyphenated in the URL, and this is what we’re using to pull the product from the database. So an example URL would be: http://www.mysite.com/Products/Florida/Sample-Product-Name We have another view that dynamically lists the products offered for each state. This page would contain links to the URL for each product offered in that state. The URL for Florida would be: http://www.mysite.com/Products/Florida We want to make sure that when we enter a new product into the database, the product is indexed by Google the next time our site is crawled. I know that Google will crawl through the links in our website, so the new product should get indexed as long as we have a link to it. In this case, the link will be on the view that lists the products for the corresponding state. I have 2 questions: 1) Is my understanding correct that Google will index the product page as long as it can find a link to it somewhere in my site? 3) To get Google to index each URL for content that is generated dynamically from a database, is having links in my site for each URL the only way to do it? Why is site not being indexed by Google, and not showing on a crawl test??
On a site we developed of which .com is forwarded to .net domain, we quit getting crawled by google on about the 20th of Feb. Now when we try to run a crawl test on either url, we get There was an error fetching this page. Error description For some reason the page returned did not describe itself as an html page. It could be possible that the url is serving an image, rss feed, pdf, or xml file of some sort. The crawl tool does not currently report metrics on this type of data. Our other sites are fine and this was up to this date. We took out noodp, noydir today as the only thing we could think of. Site is on WP cms.
