Using Canonical on home page
-
Our home page has the canonical tag pointing to itself (something from wordpress i understand).
Is there any positive or negative affect that anyone is aware of from having pages canonical'ed to themselves?

Hi Casey
I have a "self-referring" (pointing to itself) canonical on all of my pages, if another isn't needed. There's certainly no harm in doing so and I believe that there is a benefit to.
If your content is put up, is indexed first by Google and has the canonical tag on it - that is a really clear directive to Google/Bing that you are the originator for your content. That means if someone comes along and steals/scrapes the content from your site, they are far less likely (in my opinion) to be successful in passing it off as their own (and therefore leaving you with a duplicate content issue).
In addition, having self-referring canonicals on pages future proofs you against any plugins/searches/features of your site that might generate multiple URLs from an original (think www.domain.com?searchquery.html if you have a search function on your site). Having a canonical will mean that Google will not index multiple versions of your URL, which might also result in duplicate content. This also prevents attacks from people who try to brute force multiple versions of your URL to get indexed (ie sending spam links to www.domain.com?randomquery - it's very rare but I've seen it happen)
In short, I think self-referring canonicals are great idea - use them wherever you can.

Pages canonicaled to another appearing before the canonical on google searches
Hello, When I do this google search, this page(amandine roses category) appears before the one it is canonical-ed to(this multi-product version of amandine roses). This happens often with this multi-product template, where they don't rank as well as their category version(that are canonical to the multi-product version). Can someone maybe point us in the right direction on what the issue may be? What can be improved?

Does Google frown on using 3 different page titles with same content to secure the top 3 results in SERPs?
Is it frowned upon by Google to create 3 different pages with the sames content yet different titles to secure the top three results in SERPs? For example: Luxury Care Homes in Liverpool Care Homes in Liverpool Private Care Homes in Liverpool The page titles are different with slightly different meta data but the user content is exactly the same, would this be considered a cheeky win or negative to rankings?

Canonical Tag for Pages with Less Content
I am considering using a cross-domain canonical tag for pages that are very similar but one has less content than the other. The domains are geo specific, so for example. www.page.com - with content xxx, yyy, zzz, and www.page.fr with content xxx is this a problem because while there is clearly duplicate content here the pages are not actually significantly similar since there is so much less content on one page than the other?

Optimize the category page or a content page?
Hi, We wish to start ranking on a specific keyword ("log house prices" in italian). We have two options on what pages we should optimize for this keyword: A long content page (1000+ words with images) Log houses category page, optimized for the keyword (we have 50+ houses on this page, together with a short price summary). I would think that we have better chances with ranking with option nr.2 , but then we can't use that page for ranking with a more short-tail keyword (like "log houses"). What would you suggest? Is there maybe a third option for this?

Where is the best place for Landing Pages to reside on the Home Page?
On this site http://www.austintenantadvisors.com/ I have my main landing pages listed in the navigation under "Types". The reason why I did this is because I am not sure where to insert those on the home page where it does not look spammy to Google and looks natural for users. Obviously they need to appear somewhere on the home page for Google to be able to continue crawling and indexing them. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
