Difference in incoming links between web masters tool and moz
-
Why are incoming links to my site in Google Webmasters tools totally different then in MOZ? Which is correct? According to Google as of this week I have hundreds of links coming from linkarena (dot) com (Never heard) Does any one know who they are or if they are hurting me? I definitely did not pay them to put me on there. It looks like a German site. Thank you.

Hello -- just found this thread when looking for the answer to my question... I had a similar one.
On my campaign, Open Site Explorer is showing only 11 incoming links to my client's website (grilloorientalrugs.com)... Webmaster Tools shows 700! I went through WT's links, and sure enough, they are out there -- on sites like yellowpages.com, which OSE didn't even show as a result.
I understand the difference in crawling breadth and frequency. But is it really true that Open Site Explorer is only picking up on a mere 1.6% of the total links? Someone tell me why it's a useful tool, if that is the case?
And yes, I did verify that I hadn't excluded any of the links in OSE, and that I was looking at the whole root domain.
Thanks for any feedback anyone can provide here.

Thank you for the answer. I was hoping that with paying for subscription with MOZ I would get all of them or at least most of them so I would not have to do the extra steps. Your answer makes a lot of sense. I will continue looking at all of them. Thank you for prompt response.

Omakad, Google's list of links in Webmaster Tools is different than what you're going to see in Moz because these are separate companies. They both have their own crawlers and crawl websites differently. Moz doesn't crawl as often or as quickly as Google does.
Google has, on purpose, decided to not give us all of the links that they know about, mainly because they don't want us to reverse engineer their algorithm. There are actually other tools that will show you links to a website, including MajesticSEO.com and ahrefs.com. What I recommend is that you go to several link sources, including Google, Moz, Majestic SEO, and ahrefs, and get all the links--and then put them into one big list and remove the duplicates. That will give you a better picture of the links that are pointing to your website.

Using Canonicals on category or link pages
Hey, If a site has category or tag pages showing in search results for a particular keyword - sometimes higher than the page you would like to rank - could using canonical redirects on categories and tags be a solution? Thanks

How can I remove parameters from the GSC URL blocking tool?
Hello Mozzers My client's previous SEO company went ahead and blindly blocked a number of parameters using the GSC URL blocking tool. This has now caused Google to stop crawling many pages on my client's website and I am not sure how to remove these blocked parameters so that they can be crawled and reindexed by Google. The crawl setting is set to "Let Google bot decide" but still there has been a drop in the number of pages being crawled. Can someone please share their experience and help me delete these blocked parameters from GSC's URL blocking tool. Thank you Mozzers!

Changing URL Parameters in Webmaster Tools
We have a bit of a conundrum. Webmaster tools is telling us that they are crawling too many URLs: Googlebot found an extremely high number of URLs on your site: http://www.uncommongoods.com/ In their list of URL examples, all of the URLs have tons of parameters. We would probably be ok telling Google not to index any of the URLs with parameters. We have a great URL structure. All of our category and product pages have clean links (no parameters) The parameters come only from sorts and filters. We don't have a need for Google to index all of these pages. However, Google Analytics is showing us that over the last year, we received a substantial amount of search revenue from many of these URLs (800+ of them converted) So, Google is telling us they are unhappy. We want to make Google happy by ignoring all of the paramter URLs, but we're worried this will kill the revenue we're seeing. Two questions here: 1. What do we have to lose by keeping everything as-is. Google is giving us errors, but other than that what are the negative repercussions? 2. If we were to de-index all of the parameter URLs via Webmaster tools, how much of the revnenue would likely be recovered by our non-parameter URLs? Links are not found in OSE or am I missing ?
Hi.. All of our targeted pages have gone through serious Blog Posting and Social Bookmarking. All the sites were more than PR1 or 2 and all of them had a dofollow link with the perfect anchor texts. But when I trying to check our pages on OSE, it doesnt any of them. Why is that ? Im getting worried now. We have spent our last 7 months on this .

No Internal Followed Links on My Site?
I just ran the Site Explorer on my site (myeyedr.com) and it reported that there are no internal links on www.myeyedr.com or myeyedr.com. However, there were 20 internal followed links on www.myeyedr.com/index.aspx. I'm guessing this is hurting my SEO. Any suggestions?
