Domain and page backlinks
-
Hello Everyone,
I am new at SEO, and I am a bit confused with the following situation:
- I have domain, wordpress site on it, and I am building backlinks to it (testing). I do not have "home" page among pages in wordpress, if it means anything. When I build links, i use different anchor texts, but they all point to http://somethingsomething.net
-Ahrefs shows that I have 830 backlinks from 45 domains, to my URL, which is http://somethingsomething.net (it is also my site's home page address)
-MOZ;s Open site explorer, on the other hand, shows the following: 8 internal links and 0 external links for page specific metrics, and 878 total links 0 external for root domain metrics.
-Google Webmaster tools shows 10 external links pointing to my site
Please can someone explain to me what is happening here?
Thanks a lot

No backlink checker is perfect, unfortunately. Nobody has the resource of Google to crawl the entire web (even Google only crawls a section of it). In my experience Majestic & AHREFs have the largest backlink counts, and Moz can show some of your newer links through their "Recently Discovered" tab. If you can afford them all, it's best to combine data from all sources and de-dupe them.
Bing Webmaster Tools can provide some additional backlink data as well.

Each back link checker has it's own crawlers and therefore they will show different results. Majestic Seo shows 0 links for the site, another example of everyone having their own link index database.
Google webmaster tools usually only shows a sample of actual links.

Backlinks and SPAM
I was doing some back link review of competitors and I have noticed that many of our competition have 300+ do follow back links from Justia.com and an additional 300+ do follow links from law.cornell.edu (they share the same database). The links on Justia are from different pages and they are all going to the root of our competitors site. So the questions are as follows; 1: For the purpose of SEO is this considered SPAM 2: If not SPAM, then does it have a positive effect on the competitions website and should I attempt to emulate for my client. Thanks in advance. -Jeff

Stuck on page 2
I had a site that was ranking for hundreds of keywords, I got hit with a link penalty, got the link penalty removed by creating disavow file, reconsideration request. Last couple of months my site is stuck on page 2 and won't seem to move up. Thoughts?

Domain name holding pages link back, good or bad?
We are a web design and hosting company http://www.spiralsites.com But when we register domains for clients, or they take email only or a name is parked we have it using a holding page which can be seen as follows: http://www.jcevents.co.uk/ is this a good thing? Bad thing? Could it would it should it benefit our rankings? Should we do more to make it look less like our main site and actually try to use it better to help rank our other services pages?

Notification of backlink creation
Hi I was wondering if any one knows of an automatic updating service that notifies you when a back link to a site becomes live? Could this be achieved in google alerts perhaps?

Backlink Lists
I am trying to create a valid list of backlink domain to disavow after a 50% traffic cut by Penguin......problem is I have now pulled lists from 4 tool and the lists are all different. I find a toxic domain from the tool run on LinkResearchTools and look on Google and Site Explorer and the toxic link does not even show. I look at the page and sure enough the link from year ago on a link farm is there. Is there really a rue definitive tool that will give me a list of all links? Better yet is there a tool that will help me evaluate which domain to disavow ? I want to follow Dr. Pete's advice and go slow but I am also anxious to cut ties with SEO work done by someone else in the hay day of link farm SEO and frankly looking at resent links some Bad SEO by competitors.

OSE returns strange domains and pages
Hi guys, I've just started using Seomoz and so far it is awesome! However, there is one thing that I can't figure out. When using Open Site Explorer to analyze inbounds links my competitors got, I've found that one of them has links coming from strange domains like fema.gov. It is unlikely that they have a link coming from such a site, but all these sites have a download as the top linking pages. Probably the top 20 linking root domains are like this. So my question is; is this a bug in OSE, how do I find out if they really have a link coming from this site?
