Google pagespeed / lazy image load
-
Hi,
we are using the apache module of google pagespeed. It works really great, helps a lot. But today I've asked me one question:
Does the "lazy load" feature for images harm the ranking?
The module reworks the page to load the images only if the are visible at the screen. Is this behavior also triggered by the google bot? Or are the images invisible for google?
Any expirience about that?
Best wishes,
Georg.

this does a pretty good job of explaining lazy load

hey that was a fast response i usually dont get that response from google lol .. anyway post an update, ok? would like to know the answer aswell..

Yesterday, I've written a support mail to bing webmastertools. Surprisingly I got a very comprehensive answer within hours! Thumbs up!
The answer: "Yes, you are right. Since this lazy load feature is a 3rd party application, as initial troubleshooting steps and to isolate the issue, please try to turn off this feature on your end."
Well, I try to turn off the lazy load for the specific page and see what's happening.
Best wishes,

i think i already answered this question
" what i know is that anything generated by javascript is unreadable by any search engine robot"
so probably thats the reason why its not found on image search engine .. anyway ill wait for other answers too

Hi,
test google versus bing:
I am searching results for
site:schicksal.com Freitag, der 13.
Bing, organic: http://goo.gl/bfXAU0 - article found on 1st position
Bing, image search: http://goo.gl/EXDSdv - no search resultsGoogle, organic: http://goo.gl/VIi5C6 - article found on 1st position
Google, image: http://goo.gl/m5SRjA - main article image is found on 1st positionI've done some other quick checks with Bing: The big images are NOT found at the image search, only the teaser images which are on the overview pages.
So, can anybody confirm this behavior? Do Bing have a problem with the lazy load of google.pagespeed?
Best wishes,
Georg.

im curious too what i know is that anything generated by javascript is unreadable by any search engine robot.. they just dont know that language its client side .. but the thing with lazy load is that the content is there just the image is not loaded until its shown on screen.. i mean the tags wrapping up the image.. if webmaster tool "fetch as googlebot" could fetch it then you dont have to worry anything.. but still i wanna know others opinion too

Just tried to use the Google Webmaster Tool "fetch as googlebot" - the lazy loaded images where shown on the screenshot.
But the question remains: Is it possible that the google bot is not seeing the images for the ranking because the are loaded with javascript?

Site appears then disappears from Google
Hi, This is my first post to the Moz community. I hope someone can help me, as I'm at my wits end 🙂 Since mid to late April, my client's home page keeps dropping from Google rankings on and off on the desktop in incognito and non-incognito browsing. It seems to always be visible on mobile phones though. One day it's on page 4, the next day it's not anywhere to be found (even though some of her other pages rank). The site is here: evgeniaribinik.com I have done some blog writing (just text) for this client over the last few months, and recently she asked for some SEO help. After looking at her website, I noticed that she had a plugin called WordPress SEO on her site. She wasn't using this for the blogs, however. I don't think she did much of anything with SEO, but she did say that for the last few years, she was always on page 3 or 4 of Google. In mid/late April, she saw that she wasn't ranking at all for the keyword "boudoir photography nyc" anymore, despite a few years of ranking for it. I told her Yoast would be good to use. However, after she installed it, the same issues keep happening. Right now, she has Yoast and WordPress SEO plugins installed (I'm not sure if this is causing an issue as well). But I really can't figure out why she keeps going on and off page 4. She also asked me to optimize older blogs that she wrote herself for SEO. When I look at them, they don't have meta descriptions, good titles or good keywords. I realize this is hurting her, but why would her site be fine for years and all of a sudden not now? Thank you in advance for any help you can give me! Jill

A/B Testing.. Are you doing? how is it been? What do you think would be the best path for who is starting now?
Hey Mozers, One of my 2014 resolutions is to start doing A/B Testing, so far I have been following "best practices" and "common sense" when comes to website design, but I would like to go above and beyond. I was hoping a could get a few tips some of you that are already doing A/B testing. How is it been? Do you see a great ROI? What do you think would be best path for who is starting now? Any book or links you would recommend? Thanks

Traffic flow going through homepage, /default.aspx, and /index.htm - How do I fix this?
In the Google Analytics visitor flow section, most of my traffic is starting off on the homepage, but a significant portion somehow is being directed to /default.aspx, as well as a minor fraction at /index.htm - see the attached image for what this looks like. My questions are, why is this happening, is it negatively affecting the site, and should I just fix it through a filter in Analytics or consult IT? Navigating to the /default.aspx page in the address bar simply returns a blank screen. Any idea of what's going on here? The logo in the top left corner of the site directs to /index.htm, so I think I have that issue solved, but /default.aspx is definitely stumping me. The server currently runs on Apache, though I don't know if it always did. My standard method of simply Googling the problem didn't give me any definitive answers, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Q12QqpC.jpg

Does Google penalise for alot of advertising on your site?
I look after the search side of a decorating website on which we carry a large amount of advertising from external brands as that is our business model. Do you know if we would get penalised for having too much advertising - would it be deemed to affect the user experience? Many thanks for your help on this.

Redirects (301/302) versus errors (404)
I am not able to convincingly decide between using redirects versus using 404 errors. People are giving varied opinions. Here are my cases 1. Coding errors - we put out a bad link a. Some people are saying redirect to home page; the user at least has something to do PLUS more importantly it does NOT hurt your SEO ranking. b. Counter - the page ain't there. Return 404 2. Product removed - link1 to product 1 was out there. We removed product1; so link1 is also gone. It is either lying in people's bookmarks, OR because of coding errors we left it hanging out at some places on our site.
