Migrating blog posts to new site
-
I'm in the process of setting up a new site for a client, moving them over to WordPress from Joomla. They've got 50ish blog posts on their old site, but none of them have accumulated any external links. Is it worth it to copy them over to the new site for the sake of retaining all that content, or better just to start from scratch?

Telling someone there's no such thing as a duplicate content penalty is misleading. While it may not officially be called a "duplicate content penalty," you can get penalized for duplicate content, and not protecting yourself from it opens you up.
So when someone suggests to clean up duplicate content, it's bad form to butt in and imply that there's no need, since no such penalty exists. That's all I was trying to say. Won't spam this thread anymore discussing it.

You can spin it as you see fit
The bottom line is there is no such thing as a duplicate content penalty.
I don't want to start a debate on this one but when I see this type of comments it just makes me sad. The other day some "SEO expert" was giving advice on how to do page rank sculpting for example (it's 2014 last time I've checked) and the examples can go on on on.
We are side tracking here anyway - this is not the time and place for this - we are spamming mtwelves's post / question.
Sorry mtwelves.
Cheers !

Except, according to the page I linked, duplicate content is now one of four common factors when determining a thin content manual action. There isn't a big difference anymore, it's now the same category, at least as far manual actions.

Tough to say there's no such thing, when there absolutely is. Here it is straight from the horse's mouth: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/2604719?hl=en
** That’s for thin content not duplicate content – it’s a big difference.
But talking about “straight from the house’s mouth” : Demystifying the “duplicate content penalty” : http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.co.at/2008/09/demystifying-duplicate-content-penalty.html
Cheers mate.

Step #1 in removing a thin content manual action penalty according to Google: "Check for content on your site that duplicates content found elsewhere."
-
"you don't risk a duplicate content penalty." - that's because there is no such thing as a duplicate content penalty.

I don't think you will get a better answer than Williams I was going to say pretty much exactly the same.
-
I don't think you or they would want to throw away the effort they already put in, assuming it's quality, unique content. 301 the old pages, and move the content over to the new site. That way, if there is any juice, it'll be transferred, but even if there isn't, people may find those posts useful, and this way you don't risk a duplicate content penalty.

Starting Blog
Right now my page speed is above my competitors but I'm concern about the effect blog pluggins could have on my speed page. What would be a good plugin to start doing this without affecting too much to my speed page rank? My site: https://dentistaslaspalmasgc.es/

How to safeguard against negative SEO for new sites?
Hi Mozers!! I have a question. The ugly tools for blog commenting etc are still out there, my question is what if your competitor notices you that you are new to the business and they start building 20,000+ backlinks to your new site, and they too with one exact match anchor text that you are targeting. I know we can disavow tool, but I guess that would be too late? What are your thoughts? What will be the solution the above case scenario?

Moving off page blog to on page blog
Hi, I was using free wordpress blog and i have around 18-20 content on the blog. Now, we've managed to have blog on our main website which has www.mysite.com/blog extension. We did this so we could create more links on the website/ I am a little unsure how to move the blog now. Should we copy & paste the blog articles from old blog to new one and remove them from old blog? I am just not quite sure how would it effect the links. If i keep the old articles on the old blog and create new articles for the new one, it'll take me a while before i get them written. Any recommendation appreciated. Thanks

Many Blogs or One Blog?
Hi There, Presently I have many blogs across a range of domains, each one targeting the client/type of user interested in that product (or service in this case). I originally set up this strategy to use the content of each blog to create a "link juice farm" (our products are educational courses so have a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT target market depending on the course area), which in turn links to the related page/course on our main site. My question is, is this a viable strategy, or should I be focusing on building content only on my main site blog with subcategories for each product? Link juice farming on product/client specific blogs, or focus on content for each course niche on main site, that is the question?! Thanks in advance for you insights here people. I really appreciate you taking the time.

Is blog commenting still useful for SEO, post Panda and Penguin?
One website I checked is ranking well on Google. Upon checking its backlinks, I found that most of them are blog comments. Is blog commenting still valuable? Anyone encountered any recent problem (ranks gone down, etc)? Are there any specific strategy to blog commenting these days? Thanks!

Should we BackLink to Guest Post ?
Hi, I have been actively doing guest blogging for last few weeks . But the page authority , moz Rank and moz Trust of my guest posts appear 0 as those posts have their own pages on blogs with snippets of posts on home page. I wanted to ask if i should backlink to my guest posts to increase the authority, mR and mT of pages. Those posts are already appearing as backlinks in webmaster tools but if i backlink to my posts to increase mR and mT, then will it also increase the juice passed by backlinks in those posts to landing pages on my site ? Thanks,

SEOs and web developers frequently leave links to their site in the footer of their clients' sites. Does this negatively impact the site with the links?
Does this provide any SEO value to the receiving site? Has anyone experienced problems doing this?
