Social plugin making URLs wonky, would this hinder SEO efforts?
-
I have a client, heartlandplastic.com who uses a social SEO plugin which makes all of the URL's a bit wonky, for example, the homepage gets redirect to http://www.heartlandplastic.com/#sthash.Cyt22dM0.dpbs
Do you think I should find an alternative social share plugin, or that this plugin is fine, as is? They seem to be ranking fine for their immediate area.
Thank you!
-
oh and just a note, no actual redirection is happening, the plugin is simply adding a query string to the end of the URL when the page loads.
-
I don't believe so, or at least any effect should be minimal. a couple of links on the subject:
http://moz.com/community/q/link-building-does-query-string-matter
The general consensus seems to be that so long as you're using rel=canonical your fine.
Personally i would suggest removing the silly query string as I've said above, as if nothing else it doesn't look very nice for users. (in the past we've had clients say users are asking if they've been hacked etc.. as an example)

Thanks Toby, do you think that this has any negative SEO value?
-
The plugin is redirecting all traffic to that URL, whether the user actually decides to share the page or not.
-
That looks like the ShareThis plugin's doing. Have a look at the issue thread here:
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/code-being-added-to-the-end-of-my-urls
You or your developer needs to add
<code>doNotHash:true, doNotCopy:true, hashAddressBar:false</code>
To your site header.

Do you mean the plugin is redirecting all the traffic to that horrible url? Or just redirect users after clicking to share? Or that url is the one the plugin shares?
damage change depending on the answer
but I would get rid of the plugin anyhow

HTTPS, free certificates and Google seo
As we all know, Google decided to give some weight in rankings to encrypted sites. SSL certificate providers are quite a lot out there, but there is also a free alternative (Let’s Encrypt). I've been going over some of these services and compared Godaddy's and the above certificates, and there isn't much of a difference. The question is: using a free certificate would have the same effect as a paid one? I would rather pay for one than be punished for using a free one, but free would be good too.

URL Keyword Variations?
I'm aware that keywords in the url aren't as effective as they used to be, but I'm still convinced that they do have a significant impact (based on results in one of the niches I'm in). My question is, will variations of keywords and "hidden" keywords have as much value as an exact keyword? For example, let's say that I'm trying to target the keyword "day." Will including variations like "daily" in the url work just as well? What about a brand name that includes the keyword hidden in its name, like "Dayest"? And, as a followup question, does including "stop" words have any effect? For example, if I'm trying to target the keyword "Day of the Month", would including "day" and "month" in the url be just as effective as including "day of the month"?

SEO NEWBIE!!!
I am trying to get my website (and business) to the top of the search engines..just like everybody else here. 🙂 I have no idea what I am doing and I have to do this myself, because I do not have the extra money to hire somebody to do it for me. So, my question is... Where can I go to figure out how to do this? I don't know some of the "lingo" used. Like it slow crawled my sites and it wants me to fix a few things and I don't know what it is talking about. HELP!!! Becky

Onpage SEO before Offpage?
Hi there, I want to ask why should a website first have Onpage optimization and after that Offpage optimization or Link building/earning? I have read that this is better, even obligatory in many articles but I am not sure for the reason and benefits of that. Can at least social media optimization start at the same time or at the middle of the Onpage optimization?

Give me your SEO Review
Hi Mozzers, I've been working on redesigning and revamping this site, http://www.canvaspaintings.com. Their domain and keyword are a match but not ranking #1. Some initial things I feel that needs to be changed are the links on the side and top bar, viewing the on page report, it does have a lot of links on every page. Trying to figure out how to remove them without having the top nav look empty. Previous category descriptions were written by possibly an article spinner or keyword stuffed writer. Need to start building more links, although PR5, it doesn't rank too well. Let me know your opinions and thoughts, I would love to hear them out. TMI!

Breadcrumb position SEO impact
Hi all, Our UX designers are working on a new page design, and the breadcrumb position looks somewhat strange - it's almost in the middle of the page. The new page looks like this (the breadcrumb is below the head banner), but it's a showcase page that contains about 150 items. Each of them has a small thumbnail, title, category and short description. They've decided to use the head banner's place and have there all items, grouped in categories that visitors can browse. The breadcrumb menu is at 900 pixels from the top of the page In other words, you have the major part of this page content in front of the breadcrumb menu. Are there any SEO implications in such case? Should we use breadcrumbs on this page if they're not at the top? Thanks,

Redirecting to a keyword-rich domain URL
It's best practice to choose a domain that has keyword in it. But if someone has just launched a website and the domain name does not have keyword, is it better to purchase a new domain name that has a keyword in the name and redirect existing domain to the new domain? Will that help SEO? (This just launched website does not have any traffic or links yet.)
