Website errors remittent of Chernobyl.
First of all, I ask a lot of questions of the community and I don't do a lot of answering. For that, I am sorry!
I own a small SEO company and the majority of my clients are upstarts just like myself. We try to do the best we can on a very limited budget.
With that said, the client website in question, http://bestdefensega.com has been a struggle to rank in the metro atlanta lawyer market.
Here's the story. My client is a new solo attorney that practices criminal law and personal injury law. We launched bestdensega.com to focus on criminal defense and my client has also paid AVVO for a website as well. We recently decided to make a monster website that would have 50+ pages and be representative of all that he practices.
I recently put a temporary redirect on bestdefensega.com and pointed it to the avvo website while I was rebuilding the website. I did this using a plugin.
This morning I decided that I wanted to remove the redirect, so I deactivated and deleted the plugin. The redirect is still in effect. I suspect that this may be a cacheing scenario.
How do I undo a redirect?
Also, I noticed that the AVVO site has all of a sudden shot up to the top of the search results and bestdefnesega.com has dropped past the 3rd page for our keywords.Have I lost all of bestdefensega.com's link juice?
Also, bestdefensega.com has a spam score of 7. Why?
There are no shady links and everything I do is on the up and up.
Also Open Site Explorer says that bestdefensega.com doesn't have any inbound links.
Google WebMaster Tools says that the site has of 500 inbound links..Frustrated,
Thanks

Hi Mike,
Patrick makes some good points, especially regarding the site returning a 500 error; as long as you're returning a server error on this site's only page, it's unlikely you'll be able to rank for anything. The fact that the AVVO page is ranking instead is far, far better than nothing.
It looks like the site is no longer redirecting, so I suspect you're right about it being a caching issue.
You haven't lost all of bestdefensega.com's link juice permanently; once your server error is resolved and the new site is live, those links will still pass value. If there are pages that used to be on bestdefensega.com that will no longer be there, make sure those are 301 redirected to their nearest equivalent and, where possible, reach out to the sites that link to you to ask them to update the links, and it should be fine.
You can view the reasons behind the low spam score by going here: https://moz.com/researchtools/ose/spam-analysis/flags?subdomain=bestdefensega.com. It looks like most of the problem is that you just don't have many links pointing to the site, and the ones you do have are lower-quality. Some of the other flags, like ratio of followed to nofollowed subdomains and percentage of branded links, may be somewhat skewed by the small size of the data set.
OSE is now showing that you have 5 inbound links to the site; Majestic has you at 231 links from 9 domains. It's not uncommon for tools to show different numbers on something like inbound links. Each tool crawls and stores link data differently, and links may or may not show up in each tool based on factors like age, trust/authority, etc. Whether you have 500, 200 or 5 links, that's still not very many links - and it looks like most of them are coming from just a few domains. So once you've got the new site up and running, make sure you're investing some time and effort into a long-term link earning strategy. To Patrick's point, getting links and citations from other businesses/websites in your local area will help build your brand and send a strong local signal. Good luck!

Hi there
First, according to ScreamingFrog, your site is returning a 500 server error - so Google and other engines are probably hitting it and thinking "Okay, this site has issues" and ranking it accordingly. I would fix that as soon as you can.
Second (just an FYI), you have no contact information on that page, so while your users hit that page and see your site is down, they also have no way of contacting you. I would change that.
Third, I would imagine that Google is ranking this AVVO page for branded terms because it has information about your client, contact information, and also has branded content & a branded domain. So it's getting the benefit of the doubt.
Personally, I like the name of this domain so much more. It's branded, it speaks to the user, and it's easy to remember. The bestdefensesaga.com domain tells me absolutely nothing and I feel like if I were looking for your client, I would see that domain name and ignore it - basically assuming that this isn't the site I am looking for. Google likes brands, users like brands, and this bestdefensesaga.com isn't going to help in that area at all.
I would discuss this with your client, because you could be missing a major opportunity to capitalize on a branded domain and branded search.
That being said, I would also focus your efforts on local SEO and put time in there - you should be getting backlinks from more citations & listings, especially being a local business.
Hope this helps - good luck!

Redirection
Hi I used to have an online shop at https://shop.domain.co.uk. I have since done a new website and and want to divert all traffic to https://domain.co.uk/shoppage. The old shop was a subdomain but the new site has a shop on the normal domain. In Moz I am getting a lot of errors with missing descriptions and URL too long. so for example one of the urls <dl class="crawl-page-details-list"> <dd class="crawl-page-details-list-emphasis">https://shop.domain.co.uk/product-category/great-merchandise/?product_order=desc are like this. I would like to redirect them all to the new shop page. </dd> <dd class="crawl-page-details-list-emphasis">The missing descriptions are all similar. </dd> <dd class="crawl-page-details-list-emphasis">Is there a way I can redirect all these issues without doing them manually?</dd> <dd class="crawl-page-details-list-emphasis">Thanks </dd> </dl>

Question on redirect and internal link count
After crawl I saw that dup content came from domain.com/index.php and domain.com. I was going to redirect one of them but im curious which way to go. The /index.php has domain auth of 19, the other 17, so not big difference. Domain.com has 2 external linking domains and index.php has 1. The big difference is in the internal link counts where index.php has 76 and the other only 4. So should I direct index.php to / or the other way around?

Rel=canonical "redirects" to double links
Our devs have set up rel=canonical on our website. First they used relative links href="/dir1/dir2/dir3" for the page http://www.mysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3/?detail1=1?detail2=2 meaning that it will redirect to http://www.mysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3, but no luck, the MOZ dashboard showed the tag value to be http://www.mysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3/dir1/dir2/dir3, then we have decided to rewrite the code, and now the canonical to http://wwwmysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3/?detail1=1?detail2=2 looks like href="http://www.mysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3/" but the tag on MOZ looks like http://www.mysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3http://www.mysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3. So what is the problem? I really got a problem or MOZ does? The code on website looks exactly like href="http://www.aaa.com/en/bbb/ccc/vvv/nnn/" rel="canonical" /> for the page http://www.aaa.com/en/bbb/ccc/vvv/nnn/

A 301 redirect to a page with a rel canonical to a page with a 301 question...
MOZ registers thousands of DC and Duplicate titles on a Drupal site which has a little strange setup. Example: www.1234.com/en-us 301 redirects to www.realsite.com/en-us which has a rel canonical to www.1234.com which 301 redirects to www.realsite.com. If you're still with me I thank you.

My question is since MOZ registers errors, if indeed the rel canonical isn't recognized due to a 301 redirect?0 -
Looking for Advice on SEO for Minimilistic Site
Hi everyone, I found this site and it looks like a great place for us to start, we have just opened the doors to our new website fenwaymedia thats a dot co dot uk. Now Ihave tried to maintain the most minimilistic design throughout but I believe with this comes certain drawbacks - - - - S E O which is why i am here. My thought were that I would draw my clients from the Web Design, web Marketing & Blog page which I will starting in 3 hours be constantly updating. but Im not sure Im doing the right thing. I am trying to target Edinburgh, Scotland although we would take work from anywhere, if anyone could spare us a moment, I would greatly appreciate any help, tips or comments that might help us attain some visibility. Thanks in advance and thanks for looking. Kind regards, Craig

Redirecting duplicate .asp pages??
Hi all, I have a bit of a problem with duplicate content on our website. The CMS has been creating identical duplicate pages depending on which menu route a user takes to get to a product (i.e. via the side menu button or the top menu bar). Anyway, the web design company we use are sorting it out going forward, and creating 301 redirects on the duplicate pages. My question is, some of the duplicates take two different forms. E.g. for the home page: www.<my domain="">.co.uk
Moz Pro | | gdavies09031977
www..<my domain="">.co.uk/index.html
www.<my domain="">.co.uk/index.asp</my></my></my> Now I understand the 'index.html' page should be redirected, but does the 'index.asp' need to be directed also? What makes this more confusing is when I run the SEOMoz diagnostics report (which brought my attention to the duplicate content issue in the first place - thanks SEOMoz), not all the .asp pages are identified as duplicates. For example, the above 'index.asp' page is identified as a duplicate, but 'contact-us.asp' is not highlighted as a duplicate to 'contact-us.html'? I'm a bit new to all this (I'm not a IT specialist), so any clarification anyone can give would be appreciated. Thanks, Gareth0 -
What SeoMoz tools should I use to track the sucess of my SEO efforts and find possible linking partners?
HI All, I am a new user to SEO moz pro and I have a few questions I hope you can help me with. We are adding a new product category to an existing site and I am wondering what tools to use to track our SEO efforts to build ranking for these new products. I have already started a campaign that tracks the ranking of our primary keywords but I am wondering if there are other tools I should be using as well. Currently our SEO strategy is centered around link building. I have been approaching sites that have content related to our products and offering to write articles, guest blogs, and create educational resources that benefit the sites users and have specific anchor text linking back to our site. Since we are trying to build rank for a new category of products should I be linking to the general product category page or should I try to link to sub categories or individual products? Also I have used the juicy link finder to help me identify related sites that I can approach but I haven't received very many good leads. Is there a more specific way to use the tool or another tool that I should try? If you have any suggestions about other SEO strategies/activities that we should be pursuing please share your ideas! Thanks!
