Making a site mobile friendly

Hey Mozzers,
Im having a go at making our site mobile friendly without enlisting the help of developers and incorporating additional costs.
I am ok with most of it as its just CSS work bar the odd occasion when i need to reposition some elements within the code.
However, i have found myself wanting to use display:none {} on many elements that are just not practical on a mobile site. Some pages may have to hide substantial content.
Would this be considered an issue or will google just see it as me hiding impractical elements for a different sized screen.
I have googled this question for the past hour and there is a whole bunch of conflicting advice.

Hi,
I can't see any reason why Google would object to this. Mobile and desktop sites are often very different and have different elements showing - in fact, I can't think of many where they are identical in terms of showing everything.
My own site hides elements from Google via mobile (option via the theme) and I make good use of this as you don't want a huge page on mobile - it's about quick conversions and getting the point across on a much smaller screen.

PWA for Desktop Site (Ecommerce)
Hi Folks, Need guidance about using PWA on desktop site. Mobilegeddon Help - Googlebot Mobile cHTML & Mobile: XHTML/WML
Our website is (www.billboard.com) and we have a mobile website on a sub-domain (www.m.billboard.com). We are currently only redirecting Googlebot Type "Mobile: Smartphone" to our m.billboard.com domain. We are not redirecting Googlebot Mobile: cHTML & Mobile: XHTML/WML Using this URL as an example: http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/1481451/ravi-shankar-to-receive-lifetime-achievement-grammy, I fetched the URL via Google webmaster tools: http://goo.gl/8m4lQD As you can see only the 3rd Googlebot mobile was redirected, while the first 2 Google bot mobile spiders resolved 200 for the desktop page. QUESTION: could this be hurting our domain / any page that is not redirecting properly post mobilegeddon?

No follow links from ban sites
Hello boys and girls. I'm auditing my link profile and came across links pointing to my sites, from a ban site (site: domain.com gives back no result).yet the links are no follow. should i try to remove them all? i know no follow should be enough, yet my links are set in a bad neighborhood. what would you recommend??

Linking out to authoritive sites from my ecommerce site
Good afternoon SEOmoz community. I was looking for a specific answer or advice or opinion about linking out to other sites. My Site www.tacticalbootstore.com has been undergoing a complete content rewrite. In the process we have been told and read where it can be good to link out to other authoritive sites. One of the pages we have rewritten is here. http://www.tacticalbootstore.com/belleville-boots-sizing-chart-a-97.html We have not added the graphics yet as they are being built now. This is just an informational page about sizing of a particular manufacturers boots. Once you get to the bottom of the text we have added a link to the actual manufacturers page. Is this helpful for us in the SERPS or not? Thank you for your time. Chris

On-site adjustment opinions
Hi folks, I've got a fairly interesting scenario. I'm trying to rank this page (http://www.staysa.co.za/sa/1-2-0-0-1/East-London/accommodation) better for the term, "accommodation east london". The client isn't keen on making many changes and it was built horribly with ASP, half CMS, half not. I have made the following changes today: I introduced two paragraphs of text below the H1 tag. I changed "East London Bed and Breakfast", "East London Conference Venues", "East London Cottage / Chalet" to just "Bed and Breakfast", "Conference Venues", "Cottage / Chalet" as the continual key phrase duplication in my experience is a bad move. I've made a change to the title tag (this is a huge mission as it's not CMS controlled, so I had to teach myself some basic ASP to do so). Meta data.. nightmare to change unfortunately, at least not without rewriting part of the CMS. I'm wondering, are there any other on-site factors that I'm missing? I'm not a fan of site-wide links, so I don't want to put an exact match anchor text link from the sidebar/footer to the page, not unless someone can motivate why I should. Keen to hear everyone's opinions 🙂

Will training videos available on the "members only" section of a site contribute to the sites ranking?
Hello, I got asked a question recently as to whether training videos on the deeper pages of a website (that you can only access if you are a member and log in) will help with the sites ranking. On the SEOMoz software these deeper pages have been crawled as far as I can tell with errors reported on pages from the "members only" section of the site, leading me to believe the members only pages and their content will contribute to the sites overall ranking profile. I have suggested uploading the informational videos on the main pages of the site for now, making them accessible to all visitors and putting them in a more obvious place to encourage more sharing and views, however I've also said I would check it out with some experts so any information will be greatly appreciated! Why does my site have a PageRank of 0?
My site (www.onemedical.com) has a PageRank of 0, and I can't figure out why. We did a major site update about a year ago, and moved the site from .md to .com about 9 months ago. We are crawled by Google and rank on the first page for many of our top keywords. We have a MozRank of 4.59. I figured this is something that would just take time to work out of the system, but nothing seems to change while we patiently wait. One more thing to note - when a user comes to the homepage (city selector) and selects their region they will then be cookied and directed to their relevant city site on subsequent visits. But even our city-specific pages (ie www.onemedical.com/sf) have pageranks of 0. My management team keeps asking me about this and I suspect there is something silly that we keep overlooking...but for the life of me, can't figure it out. Any help would be appreciated.
