50 Duplicate URLS, but not the same
-
Hi
According to my latest site crawl, many of my pages are showing up to 50 duplicate urls. However this isn't the case in real life.
http://www.fortusgroup.com.au/browse-products/rubber-tracks/excavator-rubber-tracks/hitachi/ex-33mu.html is showing 31 duplicate URL. Examples include:
http://www.fortusgroup.com.au/browse-products/rubber-tracks/excavator-rubber-tracks/parts/x430.html
http://www.fortusgroup.com.au/browse-products/rubber-tracks/excavator-rubber-tracks/case/cx-75sr.htmlObviously these URL's are very similar and I know that Moz judges URLs by 90% of their similarity, but is this affecting my actual raking on google? If so, what can I do?
This pages are also very similar in code and content, so they are also showing as duplicate content etc as well.
Worried that this is having an affect on my SERP rankings, as this pages arent ranking particularly well.
Thanks, Ellie

Hi Laura and Everett
Thank you for your responses. I had a read of those articles and completely agree regarding the product descriptions.
Since I do want to rank for each individual track, I can't afford to use a drop-down menu as ideal as that would be.
Time to get writing.
Thank you!

The problem is that these two pages have almost identical content on them, and the content on these product pages is thin anyway. This is a common problem with ecommerce websites, and some ecommerce platforms automatically create a lot of duplication headaches You also seem to have a related issue with crawl inefficiencies.
Yes, this may very well be affecting your performance in SERPs.
There are a number of ways to address duplicate content issues on ecommerce websites. The precise strategy to use will depend on the specific issue, and you have multiple issues that need to be addressed on your site that relate to duplicate content. Below are some resources that you might find helpful.

Urls Too Long - Should I shorten?
On the crawl of our website we have had a warning that 157 have urls that are too long. When I look at the urls they are generally from 2016 or earlier. Should I just leave them as they are or shorten the urls and redirect to new url? Thanks

Trailing Slashes on URLs
Hi everyone I have a question on trailing slashes in URL. The crux of it is this: is having both: example.com/subdirectory/ and: example.com/subdirectory on all of your subdirectories considered duplicate content by Google - or in some other way really bad? We have done a heck a lot of research into this, and it would seem...no one knows for sure (it is easy to get lost in a sea of Webmaster tool forums from 2012). Google itself has both URLs for it's subdirectories (try https://www.google.co.uk/maps and https://www.google.co.uk/maps/) as does Moz; and yet there are some rumblings on the internet of people who think you must put a 'redirect' (although not really a redirect as it isn't a 301) in your htaccess file to one or the other (so for example.com/subdirectory/ would 'forward' to example.com/subdirectory); and this is what bbc.co.uk do. We tried putting this htaccess 'forward' in as an experiment, but I noticed our site then stopped being fully crawled by Google bot, so we reversed it. Can any one shed any light?

URL Parameters for Product Variation
Hey there Mozzers, So I have a website that uses URL Parameters for product variations. So for example when I am in the product "test" that product has 5 different variations. So the url is as followed /product/test /products/test?variant=10271886529 /products/test?variant=10271886530 etc. Does Google understand that this is the same page ? Does it automatically exclude the variable in the url?

Duplicate Content
Crawl Diagnostics has returned several issues that I'm unsure how to fix. I'm guessing it's a canonical link issue but not entirely sure... Duplicate Page Content/Titles On a website (http://www.smselectronics.co.uk/market-sectors) with 6 market sectors but each pull the same 3 pages as child pages - certifications, equipment & case studies. On each products section where the page only shows X amount of items but there are several pages to fit all the products this creates multiple pages. There is also a similar pagination problem with the Blogs (auto generated date titles & user created SEO titles) & News listings. Blog Tags also seem to generate duplicate pages with the same content/titles as the parent page. Are these particularly important for SEO or is it more important to remove the duplication by deleting them? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Internal Duplicate Images
Question: If we had hundreds of images duplicated on a site, but different URL (tacking "-1" to the end), is that a Panda issue? Will we get penalized. I know duplicate content (web pages) pretty well, but duplicate files? That I'm unsure of.

URLs Case Sensitive Serving Duplications
At PakWheels.com we have URLs being generated in upper and lower cases. For example following URLs serve pages: http://www.pakwheels.com/used-cars/search/-/mk_Toyota/ http://www.pakwheels.com/used-cars/search/-/mk_toyota/ Both show same content. Similarly in following four cases: http://www.pakwheels.com/used-cars/search/-/mk_Toyota/md_corolla/ http://www.pakwheels.com/used-cars/search/-/mk_Toyota/md_Corolla/ http://www.pakwheels.com/used-cars/search/-/mk_toyota/md_Corolla/ http://www.pakwheels.com/used-cars/search/-/mk_toyota/md_corolla/ all of these 4 URLs serve page with same content. What is the best practice for this issue, is it generating duplication? Please advise

Multiple URLs and Dup Content
Hi there, I know many people might ask this kind of question, but nevertheless .... 🙂 In our CMS, one single URL (http://www.careers4women.de/news/artikel/206/) has been produced nearly 9000 times with strings like this: http://www.careers4women.de/news/artikel/206/$12203/$12204/$12204/ and this http://www.careers4women.de/news/artikel/206/$12203/$12204/$12205/ and so on and so on... Today, I wrote our IT-department to either a) delete the pages with the "strange" URLs or b) redirect them per 301 onto the "original" page. Do you think this was the best solution? What about implementing the rel=canonical on these pages? Right now, there is only the "original" page in the Google index, but who knows? And I don't want users on our site to see these URLs, so I thought deleting them (they exist only a few days!) would be the best answer... Do you agree or have other ideas if something like this happens next time? Thanx in advance...
