Backlinks or content? What is the problem here?
-
My Moz ranking is 29, Ahrefs Domain rank is 49 and Majestic Citation flow is 44 whereas trust flow is 17.
This is a plain question - If the above are the rankings for backlink problem, then where is the problem more likely to be found? Backlink or content?
In more detail - My site has been dropping in search since the last few weeks. With these rankings, is it likely that a backlink related problem is there? I myself agree that some content is poor and thin and there is a problem of plagiarism also. But overall, do i keep focusing on content? I do not know how good are these rankings as shown above.
My URL is www.marketing91.com
Please let me know whether the backlink profile looks good or not? So that at least i am not worried that there is a backlink problem as well. (i will surely work on toxic links soon) I can worry only on content.

Thank you Andy. This was a week long foray into backlink audit and its finally coming to an end. Now its content content and content.

**They are purely for links. So do i directly disavow them? **
Yes, if there is no way to do anything about it, just disavow.
Should i go ahead and disavow the bad links? Or let it be?
Yes, these sorts of links will be doing you no favours at all. OK, Google might just be ignoring them, but much better to err on the side of caution. If Google was just ignoring them but then changes their stance at a later stage, you know you are covered.

Dear Andy,
I hope you answer this. Yes, i checked ahrefs and Moz.com backlinks thoroughly. I could find 57 backlinks which included "Payday loans" or from link farms or in general bad backlinks. They might have a Domain rating of 40 in Ahrefs, but they were bad back links.
I cannot remove them because these sites just dont have a contact us button. They are purely for links. So do i directly disavow them?
Secondly, my answer to content is that i am rewriting all content which was top of the serps again. I am a problogger now and i have more time in my hands. This solves the plagiarism problem and also ensures that i get the google "answer box" which is repeatedly a pain in the A. I am losing to competition because of some poorly written articles by other authors. So content will be overhauled.
The question in my mind is, even if the loss looks because of content, should i go ahead and disavow the bad links? Or let it be?

Hi,
** I myself agree that some content is poor and thin and there is a problem of plagiarism also**
This is a biggie - Page quality is a huge thing for Google and you must ensure that pages someone lands on, have a reason to exist, and answer the question they asked correctly.
If you know there are spammy links, just how spammy? Are they damaging? Do they link with money-phrases? Has there been any penalty on the site at any time? All these should be looked at (and more) when assessing a backlink profile.
If you know there are links that are so poor that they could be damaging, either ask for them to be removed, or disavow them.

On an average, in AHREFS, my competitors have a Domain rank of 53 and i have of 49.
In moz, they have a rank of 50 again. But i have around 29. So yes, the competitors are ahead of me. But till date i was ranking well with the same backlinks. At least for my keywords?
So any insight with this data? Major question, do i rectify my backlinks, build more content, or the more exhausting and expensive one, do both?

Backlinks: depends on the quantity and quality of the backlink profiles for your competitors. If they have a much higher DA/PA/Trust, than you probably need to build that up to compete.
Content: unique, long form content works best. Aim to be share worthy... if people share your link on social media, they will probably link back to your website as well.

Metadata and duplicate content issues
Hi there: I'm seeing a steady decline in organic traffic, but at the same time and increase in pageviews and direct traffic. My site has about 3,000 crawl errors!! Errors are duplicate content, missing description tags, and description too long. Most of these issues are related to events that are being imported from Google calendars via ical and the pages created from these events. Should we block calendar events from being crawled by using the disallow directive in the robots.txt file? Here's the site: https://www.landmarkschool.org/

Someone mentioned us on facebook and brought 10k clicks to homepage.. how do I find the content?
So this morning our website started to go crazy with hits all coming from Facebook, and I am trying to figure out how I can see who was talking about us? All the traffic landed on one page specifically. When I look in analytics it just shows social, and then I can drill down to see they are coming from facebook, but that's it.

Webmaster Tools V. OSE Backlinks to Disavow
Hey Everybody, So I am getting to the point where I need to disavow some backlinks. I am noticing a discrepancy between the OSE backlinks and the GWMT backlinks. My question is do I put both sets of links in the Disavow tool? Just the links from GWMT? Just the links from OSE? Etc... Etc... Thanks Everybody!

Fresh Content Still As important?
We have an internal debate, that perhaps y'all can help us resolve. In the past "freshness" of content has been important, correct? (Google's QDF for example) In the past (to present) when we build a site with the intent to SEO the site, we build the core pages with the expectation that we will be adding more site pages as the project progresses, thus settling the "fresh content" factor. But it has been proposed to us, from a client, that completely building the site out with all the pages you hope to rank, getting the upfront bang for your buck. The expectation is that the traffic soars right-off. Now the client says that he has been doing this for years and has not been affected by any alog changes. (although we have not seen proof of this from him) So our question is this: Is it better to provide a website full of fresh content at the beginning of the project, for a jumpstart on traffic, then leave the site alone ( for the most part) or Is it better to have core pages of fresh content at the start, and build out new pages from their, so the website remains fresh every month? And can you prove your argument? (we need cold hard facts to be convinced 🙂

Problem setting up new view in Analytics
Hi, I'm having problems finding where to set up a new view in Analytics. I have seen https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1009714?hl=en but get lost at point 3 (In the View column, click the menu, then click Create new view.) In the menu there is no option that I can see. If I go into the one view that is set up, I also can't see anything 'View Settings' that would allow me to copy the view and then modify it. Am I missing something? Thanks

What's the problem with this code for Google Analytics
Hello, I'm using this code in my thank you page to track ecommerce sales in GA. The problem that I'm having is that in the google event the _trackPageview doesn't register the proper page but puts the url of the ecommerce website. The transaction is properly tracked. Any ideas of what could be the issue looking at this code? Maybe there could be other code could be causing the problem? Thanks a lot.

Google Analytics data - Canonical problems?
Hi everyone, We're trying to determine why Google Analytics is showing multiple versions of the same page as having "landing page traffic". For instance, these 2 pages are both shown as landing pages in GA: www.oursite.com/product_page
Reporting & Analytics | | darkgreenguy
www.oursite.com/product_page/ This occurs many times in Google analytics. Also, there are instances such as these: www.oursite.com/index.php/custom_product_url www.oursite.com/custom_product_url I can't find anything in Google Webmaster tools that would indicate a problem. However, this GA data is making me think there are duplicate content issues on the site... Thanks in advance for any help...0 -
Sub-category considered duplicate content?
Hello, My craw diagnostics from the PRO account is telling me that the following two links have duplicate content and duplicate title tag: http://www.newandupcoming.com/new-blu-ray-releases (New Blu-ray Releases) http://www.newandupcoming.com/new-blu-ray-releases/action-adventure (New Action & Adventure Releases | Blu-ray) I am really new to the SEO world so I am stuck trying to figure out the best solution for this issue. My question is how should I fix this issue. I guess I can put canonical tag on all sub-categories but I was worried that search engines would not craw the sub-categories and index potentially valuable pages. Thanks for all the help.
