Hosting Sites under same IP / subdomain usage?
-
Hello everyone!
The company I am working for is working on selling websites templates to clients in the near future. In terms of SEO purposes, would it be detrimental for our clients if we hosted all of these sites under the same server/IP?
Also, in the past we've sold sites under a domain we own, adding them on as a subdomain. For example, we would own yourflowers.com, and if Mark's Flowers wanted a site, we would give him: marksflowers.yourflowers.com
These sites are going to be the same niche as we are industry specific (example would be, we sell website templates specifically designed for flower shops around the United States).
I want the best possible SEO experience for our clients and I believe using subdomains and hosting under the same server IP can be detrimental, but I wanted to see what the Moz community thinks of this.
Any feedback is appreciated!
Thanks

Hi Paul,
The difference would be made how you plan to use these domains, if they are going to inter-link to each other, they may be seen as Link-wheel strategy (black hat strategy). If they are competing for same industry space (as in keywords) or working to benefit the same company together, then again that may be a problem.
As for the same IP, there are several websites hosted on same server IP at a time.
I hope this helps, please respond if you have further questions.
Regards,
Vijay

In my experiencie it doesnt make any difference

I should have clarified, but it won't be just several sites, but could be in the hundreds since we have thousands of clients. Would that make a difference?
Thanks

Hi Paul,

No, there is no detrimental in SEO purposes in hoting several sites in the same server/IP.
-
Subdomains are treated as separate sites from the main domain. So there will be no harm in that.
Best Luck.

Site Blacklisted
Good morning. Just done my WMT ritual morning check and one of my sites has been blacklisted for malware. It's a wordpress site - I've run various scans, e.g. http://sitecheck.sucuri.net/scanner/ and also installed wordfence and scanned with that and wordfence produced some offending files which I have now deleted. I've also installed website defender in the hope that it wont happen again. I'm pretty good with staying on top of updates and rarely let a few days pass without upgrading new version of wordpress or plugins etc. I've also checked my users to make sure no new admins or anything and also changes passwords. I've asked for a review from Google and just wondered how long these reviews take? Also, has anybody got any advice, is there anything else I should be doing? Thanks

Best Google Practice for Hacked SIte: Shift Servers/IP or Disavow?
Hi - Over the past few months, I've identified multiple sites which are linking into my site and creating fake pages (below is an example and there's over 500K+ of similar links from various sites}. I've attempted to contact the hosting companies, etc. with little success. Was wondering if my best course of action might be at this point: A) which servers (or IP address). B) Use the Google Disavow tool? C) both. example: { http://aryafar.com/crossings/200-krsn-team-part19.html } Thanks!!

IP addresses indexed?
I've met with a potential client who has a site with 1,000's of very specific part #'s which don't show in the SERP's on Google. They definitely have the issue of dynamic URL's - but the URL for the part # searches is an IP address rather than their domain name - example: 188.888.888.888/partssearch.php?pnum='1233445' I've not seen the IP address used like this for an external website - is this acceptable for SEO purposes? Thanks, Mark

New website branding, differences between http://www and http://
Hey Mozers! We will be creating another brand pretty soon with some pretty cool interactive features and before we start development of the site I was wondering if there are any pros/cons to branding the site sans the www. For example http://example123.com and http://www.example123.com. I would much prefer to brand it has http://example123.com but I just wanted to check first to see if that would have any negative SEO ramifications. It seems that it might just be a preference as I looked at Facebook and Twitter and they both do it differently, same with Groupon and LivingSocial. Looking forward to hearing from you guys!
